A Paranormal Women’s Fiction novel with a bit of class, and a lot of sass, for anyone who feels like age is just a number!“Happily Ever After” wasn’t supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of twenty years packs up and heads for greener pastures and my son leaves for college, that’s exactly what my life becomes. Do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age … plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at forty I’m ready to carve my own path.
Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills. I’ll be taking care of a centuries old house that called to me when I was a kid. It’s just temporary, I tell myself. It’ll just be for a while.
That is, until I learn what the house really is, something I never could’ve imagined.
Thankfully forty isn’t too old to start an adventure, because that’s exactly what I do. A very dangerous adventure that will change my life forever. I have a chance to start again, and this time, I make the rules.

K.F. Breene knocks this out of the park! I couldn’t put it down until the very last word. It was that damn good. Read it. You will love it.
“Witty, imaginative, and ass-kicking! K.F. Breene’s new series takes readers on a paranormal adventure and shows that 40 is not even close to being over the hill. A new must-read series.”
Hilarious, incredible brilliant book! I was so excited about this new trend PWF genre created by 13 fabulous authors and every book I read I’m loving it more and more. This book isn’t an exception. Couldn’t put it down!
Kickass heroine in her forties, so no- nonsense, no drama just taking fresh start from the scratch diving into new life where magic awaits her. Getting to know her amazing crew of weirdos which I love and it’s so much fun to read about them! Can’t get enough of Austin!
Storyline is unique even for a paranormal world!
What are you waiting for?? Just pick up this book because you really need this in your life and will want more!
I loved the setting – the gothic house and the quirky town. Muggles are Dicks and Jane’s which is cute. And a nice twist on a non-magical main character being thrust into a magical world.
So much fun to read. Love the characters and the humor!
When you power through a whole series in a week, you know you’ve found a winner. I loved the mature woman willing to own her forties. And the world-building is great too!
This book has a different twist with the heroine being middle aged and lots of HUMOR. My only grievance is the heroine whines a bit too much about body aches and pains at being only forty! She needs to eat better it guess.
I loved Magical Midlife Madness. I read it straight through which is a rare thing these days. The world building and the strong supporting cast of characters including the house kept me entertained from beginning to end. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
I was hunting something new to read by a new author, and I took a chance on this. I’m delighted I did. This book is full of surprises and just plain fun to read. There’s a shifter, but not the kind you expect. Nothing is quite what you expect. I enjoyed this so much; I ordered the next two books in the series. I’m sure I’ll be coming back for more.
I loved listening to this audiobook because I have been talking with friends an other authors about having superpowers and this is also funny. I am a few years past midlife so I can identify with this character in the story and probably would do a lot of the same things. The narrator, Nicole Poole does a wonderful job telling the story with all the different voices. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I really loved this book. One of my favorites for the year. 🙂
This book was hilarious. I loved, loved loved it. It has such a different story line while still giving you the paranormal characters you love and some that will give you the creeps. I love that I finally found a book with a gargoyle in it.
Jacinta or Jessie, is one strong forty year old woman recently divorced and glad to be divorced was starting her life all over again, she was not happy about moving back in with her parents until he found a job. This part of the book had me laughing out loud her parents are quite the characters.
It turns out that Jessie doesn’t have to stay with her parents long, her best friend has an Aunt that is looking for someone to take care of a creepy old house a house that Jessie just happened to have visited before and had fallen in love with.
Once Jessie arrives in the quiet little town known as O’Briens her life just gets crazier and crazier and the book gets better and better.
I absolutely loved all of the characters in this book. The characters are well written and the scenes described in fantastic detail. I loved the twists and turns and the humor. The pace is just right and there is just enough action and that little touch of romance. I can not wait until the next one in the series comes out.
I absolutely LOVED this book which was written and released as part of the PWF group which is a wonderful group of authors who decided to write a load of books with a female main character aged over 40 and let me tell you they are blooming brilliant!!!!!!
There are moments through out the book that can only have been written by K F Breene as her sense of humor as deliciously warped as it is comes through. Yes there are some people that wont get the humor but others will absolutely love it.
Jacinta is amazing as a lead female and Niahm at the end being really peed that she she gets her missing tit back is so funny. Worst moment in the book for me is the Dolls that come to life to defend the house. Urgg!!! step to far breeny!!!!
I really loved this storey ( well all except the creepy dolls!) and i am sure you will also fall in love with the town/house/Austin and dont get me started on Mr Tom – we ll need a Mr Tom in or lives – it sounds like a really cool fun place to live so why not come on down to O’Briens for a glass of wine – i am sure you will love this book as much as i did.
Jacinta (Jessie) Evans is recently divorced and trying to figure out who she is and what she wants to do when an opportunity to take a job as a caretaker for a house in another town drops into her lap. It’s not a difficult decision. Take the job and get some ‘me’ time or (as a 40+ year old woman) live with her parents. She takes the job and is immediately dropped into a world she didn’t know existed, with a cast of colorful characters, and a house that might just be the strangest and most powerful thing she’s ever experienced.
This book had me alternately laughing so much that I didn’t dare read it in public and highlighting sections that really spoke to me as an older woman. KF Breene absolutely nailed what life is like for women who give themselves over to supporting a husband, raising children, working, and trying to keep a perfect house while looking good – and then get left behind. She brings up the dangers women face that men don’t ever think about (how many men worry about walking alone to their car in a dark parking lot at night?) Interspersed with these gems we meet Earl, Niamh, Edgar, Austin, and Ivy House. The interaction and bickering between Earl, Niamh, and Edgar is hysterical; handsome, larger-than-life Austin is not what he seems, and Ivy House seems to be drawing Jessie under its thrall.
Jessie is wonderful as the lead character. Add in the fabulous supporting cast and a good story and you get a book that I strongly recommend no matter what age or gender you are. I can’t wait for the next one – well done Ms. Breene!
Format: audiobook
Narrator: Nicole Poole
What a fantastically refreshing story. The lead character is a woman in midlife who’s happy with the woman she is becoming after her husband leaves and her son goes off to college, Jacinta is looking forward to a new chapter in her life but certainly wasn’t expecting or prepared to be thrown into a magical inheritance or the trouble that comes with it.
Great characters with lots of humorous banter keeping this a fun and interesting read. I look forward to seeing how Jessie copes in her new role.
The narrator does a great job with the different characters and enhancing the enjoyment of the story.
I really enjoyed this one. Jessie and her supporting cast were absolutely HILARIOUS. I loved their shenanigans, especially Mr. Tom and Niamh’s interplays. Austin was a bit of a yawn-fest for me. I’ve never been a fan of “alphas” (I also HATE that term), so it’s not surprising that he didn’t do much for me. His shifter form was a bit of a surprise though. It came out of left field, but it was still interesting.
My only real beef with the story is its lack of conflict. Yes, there were outsiders who threatened to take over Ivy House, but in the end, they didn’t live up to expectations. That said, the author’s voice (and the characters’ voices, by extension) was strong enough that I didn’t really notice. I’ve always said that if an author has a memorable voice, I can enjoy the story, no matter how bad the plot is. The plot of this book wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t particularly memorable either. The characters made the story for me.
And if the characters were great, the narrator was even greater. She brought them to LIFE with her accents and funny voices. I don’t think I’d have enjoyed this story nearly as much if I’d just read it. I could listen to this narrator all day long. She’s perfect.
I just bought book 2 and plan to listen very soon. Highly recommend this one!
Enjoyed this tale of a 40-ish woman discovering her magic, no longer weighed down by the husband she’s been carrying for the last 20+ years. If you’re looking for inspiration for a new lease of life after wifedom, look no further.
Enjoyable read … even for one not familiar with paranormal reads. I’d never read anything this paranormal before, but enjoyed it very much. Characters were so unique and interesting in a bizarre sort of way … story, too, interesting in a bizarre sort of way. Guess I’m hooked as I do want to read the next volume. Just a quirky and fun, easy read.
I can’t begin to describe how much I adored this book!! I originally got it for my Mom but the more reviews I saw I just had to read it. This is my first K.F. Breene book and let me tell you if all her books are this good I can’t wait to see what else she has written. I absolutely adored Jess and the craziness she endures through this book. I laughed so much and couldn’t wait to see what would happen next!!
I loved this first book so much that I kept reading and buying until I had all 5. I just finished them in one week and I cannot wait for book 6!
