Rina Nelle Mont is finally a part of the paranormal world. But it isn’t rainbows and roses like she’d imagined. The Magical Creatures Academy only accepts those supernaturals with the greatest potential. She’s now certain she has what it takes … and then some. She has more power than she has bargained for.The Academy is the leading institution for paranormal creatures in the world. Its students … creatures in the world. Its students are the finest of shifters, vampires, and fae.
In Rina’s opinion, Prince Leander Verion is the finest of all the fae, but he’s also entirely off limits. She lacks the requisite pointy ears to make her an acceptable match.
But Rina is far from acceptable, she’s exceptional. If only she can learn to master her wild powers … before they master her.
Whether she likes it or not, Rina is about to find out why she has rightfully earned her place at the academy.
Lion Shifter is the second book in an exciting new magic-filled urban fantasy, starring a girl with lots of moxie, fine brawny shifters, BFFs with questionable morals, and pygmy trolls in need of an attitude adjustment.more
Good continuation of the series. Nice to see Sir Lancelot in action. My favorite character.
Lots of action and magic abounds.
The ending was a surprise to me.
Well worth a read though.
‘Lion Shifter’ is book two in Lucia Ashta’s Magical Creatures Academy.
After spending the Summer break at the Golden Forest (Fae’s World) Rina is ready to start her second semester at the Menagerie. The threat of Rage and Fury still out for Rina and her brother Ky, being a normal student isn’t going to be easy. Security is amped up and an extra class is made to help train the students for the possible upcoming war. She needs to work harder on her shifting abilities, and being distracted by a Fae Prince is something she can’t afford to be doing.
I still love this world and all the mystical creatures and beings in this series. But I still believe there is something that is missing. I’m having mixed feelings and emotions about it, in one half I want to continue reading to see what is going to have with Rina but also what’s going to happen between Rina and Leander. But then the other half I feel as this has come to an end and it’s time to say goodbye as I’m having a trouble connecting with the characters.
I know it’s an academy and Rina is only recently turned 18, but I get the vibe that’s she seems more like 15 instead. One minute she strong, independent, and ready to kick butt, then next she’s hiding, frightened and timid.
Ja’s character at first was cool she was what was need to help bring both Rina and Wren out of their shells of the uncertainty of the world of MCA. But now I find her irritating, annoying and at times a bit of a b*tch.
Wren, Dave, Boone and Adalia are still such wonderful and great characters, they are the perfect people to have on your side. Each with their own quirks and uniqueness. The two new additions Sadie and Damon are excellent with their own spunk.
Leander, you sweet naive Prince. You are gorgeous, sexy as sin, and very very distracting. Full of mystery and surprises.
Now don’t think I did not like this book cause on the contrary I did enjoy it. I was intrigued and curious as to how things were going to turn out. It’s just I’ve read other books by this author and I know how fantastic you writing and story’s are, I just think this may have missed its mark a little. But don’t fret I’m going to give book three ‘Mage Shifter’ a try. Hopefully it can help me make up my mind whether to continue on the rest of the series.
the best book seriesMagical Creatures Academy 3: Mage Shifter ever
*WARNING* contains crude language
Rina and her older brother Ky are mountain lion shifters, but Rina is special because she is also a mage. There aren’t many mountain lions left, and now the brother and sister are in danger. The Academy is trying protect them and the rest of the students from The Voice. It’s just crazy.
I think this is a great story. I find it funny that the Elf King is racist. Rina is special to the paranormal world, but not good enough for the Elf king’s because she’s not an elf. There so much happening in this story. There’s character development. There’s world building. There’s betrayal. There’s you love. There psychotic shifter brothers. There’s backstabbing vampires. How many more reasons would anyone need to read this book? Book 3 of the trilogy is already out, so no waiting to see what happens next!
I cannot ever get enough of these books. I love everything about them. I cannot wait till the next book come out. Way to go writing a great book.
I was a little disappointed that the sequel didn’t start off as strong as the first book did. I was hoping it would start with a glimpse into the “summer break” since Rina would get some time with Leo, but no. It just says she hardly saw him. Yes, it sets up a sort of blockade between them, and stops the forward progress in their relationship as a part of story development but it was a bit of a letdown as a reader. As with book 1, the story is still a little choppy in that it focuses on short glimpses into the students’ daily lives as the days progress. It could use more fluidity and connection between scenes.
I loved the relationship development between Rina and Leo even though it goes through its ups and downs (as in any teenage relationship). The addition of enforcers as protection for Rina and her brother is a nice tough. I absolutely loved Sadie. The fact that she’s a witch instead of a shifter is refreshing since it shows the other part of the magical world outside the Creatures Academy. Especially since Rina has shown she has the potential to exhibit mage qualities as well. It gives a sense of foreshadowing which sets up for book three quite well. The challenges the students face with the threat to Rina and her brother Ky added a sense of urgency to the story. There were predictable parts, but in a good way. The ending is just so sad which is surprising to come from the second story in I’m presuming a trilogy.
This was a powerful magical adventure for a middle book in a trilogy! It was significantly longer than the first one and much more involved. The main character, her brother, and her love interest are developed much more. The other characters, not so much. In fact, my favorite character, Jas, has no mention of being a skunk shifter, which is like the coolest part, until one passing comment at the very end. And she doesn’t shift at all! There are also two new very strong female characters added into the mix. Love them both!
So while I would have liked a lot more character development for the others, I totally understand why it couldn’t be there. I don’t know how it would have fit into the story which was pretty much nonstop action from start to finish.
Also, the relationship between the main character and her love interest is getting ridiculously hot. This book is for an older audience for sure because there is some swearing and even a few sexual references. But nothing over-the-top. Still New Adult.
I will say that if you haven’t read the first book, this one would confuse you significantly. A lot of things aren’t explained because they happened in the first book. So as long as you read book one, then go forth and enjoy this one! Happy reading!
Right from the get-go, the action began. Rina had a lot to learn in her second year at the Academy. She needed to smooth out her shifting into her lion and back again. As she gained other knowledge in the process, her feelings for Prince Leander grew as well. But there was a threat hanging over her and her brother Ky. Can the 24/7 guards on them help keep them safe? So much tension and chaos at times left us to wonder what will happen next. So many surprises and twists to this story left me holding my breath at times. Now the students have reached the point of winter break wondering if they will all be welcome back to the Academy when it’s time to return. I can hardly wait to read the next book in this series to find out. If you haven’t read the first book in this series yet then you are truly missing out. This is a great series to read. Very exciting and enjoyable to read.
Heart beware!
I am super surprised how this book started! And all the cursing involved :-O I mean, I guess it’s warranted, war and all. We find out there may be more to Rina than we’ve seen. And how will she handle it?! Through it all, at least she can count on her people <3
Lion Shifter is Book 2 in the Magical Creatures Academy series. Lucia Ashta has again put us on an action-packed fast-paced thrill ride with lots of twists and turns. It is a page turning on the edge of your seat read. The story line and characters are exceptionally well written that you feel as though you are there in the story. I eagerly await Book 3 to see where Lucia will take us from here. This is such a wonderful series that it would be a mistake not to read it. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary an honest review.
Ok so this second book was every bit as good as the first if not better! Tons of action, drama, suspense, twists and turns , I am loving this academy tale and it’s characters! An exciting urban fantasy series that you should definitely read!
A fantastic read. If you wolf Shifters this is definitely the read for you. Its part of a series. This is the third book in the series. And this read is epic. Its fast paced and action packed. Can her and her guys get the packs to get along. Before they could be found again. The Author reallt brings the Characters and storyline together great. She hits a home run. The book covers are a home run as well. I definitely recommend this read.

I just binge read Night Shifter and Lion Shifter, the first two books of Lucia Ashta’s Magical Creatures Academy series. Not surprisingly (as this is one of my favorite authors), it was wonderfully superb. Rina Nelle Mont is a wonderful riot of a character, full of wild powers and totally fun to follow. Add in the perfect setting in the Academy with its shifters, vampires, and fae, and you’ve got the perfectly built playground for great story-making – which is more than delivered in these two books. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. These books definitely deserve it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that each book is most definitely “one to read”, and is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
Full of action!!! … Wow, this book really gets into action from page one!!!… Rina and Kay didn’t get to enjoy the “easy” Academy life as they get ambushed in their return to the Academy and they are each assigned a guard that follows them around the whole time… Rina and Leo don’t hide their feelings any more, but this opening just complicate the whole situation even more… Will the lions sibilings be really safe inside the Academy???…… Wonderful book full of action, twists and turns, betrayal, friendship and romance.. Need book 3 already!!!
GET TO STEPPING!!!
Hominy, hominy, hominy! Talk about down and out. All the twists and turns, ins and outs, along with a few glitches and grinds make for an outstanding experience. Lucia really brought the magic and then some in this tough as iron 100% true to life form fascinating page turning delight while frozen on a razors edge. Lucia writes with such passion that weaves through every page thoroughly. All the drama, determination and suspense keeps you focused on the pages from start to finish. The characters are authentic, believable and so realistic with such depth and individuality its easy to relate. The scenes are so vividly detailed and descriptive there’s no problem picturing each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Amazing job Lucia, thanks for sharing this little sweety with us.
