A wonderful ending to the adventures of Kate and Curran. It wrapped everything up nicely, while still leaving a big and crazy world to keep the adventures coming.
Bravo Authorlords!
I am thrilled to have gotten an ARC of Magic Triumphs by Ilona Andrews. I am a huge fan of this series and have read, listened to, and dreamed about every novel. I’ll be honest though, if I hadn’t gotten this ARC I may have sat on this novel for a little while. It’s so hard to say goodbye to characters you love so much! As this book comes out on 8/28 I knew I’d have to buckle down and get over my emotional pain and read the novel. Without giving away the plot too much, here are my brief thoughts. Kate- The reason why I love this heroine so much is because even though she has this incredible power and could do and be pretty much anything she wants, she remains true throughout this series. She wants to have friends, love, and have a home with Curran. A home, not a castle, not as ruler, just as a woman wanting to be with her man.
Magic Triumphs stretches Kate further than she’s ever been. As we have seen in the Oracles visions in past novels, Kate knows she will battle her father, Roland, which may cause her son or her husband Curran’s death. She will do absolutely ANYTHING to keep their deaths from happening.
We found out at the end of Magic Binds that Kate is pregnant, so I’m not spoiling anything by saying that this novel starts off with the birth of their son and the majority of the novel takes place while her son is around 1 years old. He is such a fun presence in this novel and added something new and fresh to Kate’s character. MOM. I also loved seeing how proud Curran is of his son, and I think my favorite line in this book is Curran’s “He’s a prodigy.” Conlan, their little boy, is a little more than Kate had expected and his antics provide some much needed humor to what could have been a really darkly emotional novel.
The whole Kate Daniels series has been leading up to her battle with her father, Roland. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone when I say that yes, they battle. However, before that happens they have a couple of heart twanging moments that make you wish things had been different for Kate. It’s a shame she didn’t get the father she needed, but then we wouldn’t have had all of these wonderful stories to read! I feel like Roland paused for a moment reflecting on that same wish. That he’d have had the chance to just love his daughter. However, he is who he is and can’t change his megalomaniac ways… Curran. I just love him. In Magic Triumphs he proves his worth as mate to Kate. They are now parents and we see them go through another evolution in their relationship, but Curran takes things even beyond where I saw his character going in order to keep his family safe. When I stop to think about it, it’s pretty jaw dropping, but my lips are sealed!
Magic Triumphs ends on a positive note. When I say that, I mean that we are given hope that more novels in this world will be written. We already know that Hugh and Elara have their own series, and they are actually an integral part of this book as well. We get a hint at the end that two more characters may have their own stories written. I can only hope! I am going to end this review by copying what Ilona Andrews wrote on their blog. Paraphrasing, of course. ‘If this is the first time you have picked up a book in the Kate Daniels series. Put it down. Pick up Magic Bites. It’s our least favorite in the series, but the first and it needs to be read in order. It gets better, we promise.’ Boy does it!
I was given an ARC of this book through NetGalley for my honest review and it was honest!
My god… this is the final book in my all time favorite series, by my all time favorite author. This took so long to come, ten novels, a fist full of novellas, and hours and hours of the most amazing reading EVER. This novel caps the series so perfectly, It threaded through Kate’s adventures in motherhood, inter-paranormal diplomacy, big bad magic battles, family issues, a big time deadbeat father trying to rule and end her life, and her own love life problems. Slip in a ton of shifters, necromancers, a hazmat wizard–love you Luther!–a mortal enemy, a super powered dead aunt, small and large armies on either side and, of course, Kate Daniels = One hell of a book! If you haven’t read this series before, don’t read this book. Go and get a copy of Magic Bites, and start from the beginning.

Very good, not predictable
This was awesome! I am going to miss Kate and Curren terribly. It is hard to find other authors to read that cane en come close.
I own EVERYTHING they have written!!!!
So I’m feeling kind of sick, so I am spending time reading, which is awesome. I finally got to finish this one! Woohoo! Great ending to a freaking fantastic series. The only reason I didn’t give this book 5 stars is that I loved the first sis or seven books beyond measure, but the last few were just great. I loved them. The series needed to come to an end, unfortunately. I have no real love for Julie but can’t wait for the second book in Hugh’s trilogy. But I’m really going to miss Curran and Kate.
Another fantastic edition to the Kate Daniels series.
Kate and Curran are funny, dynamic and adorable as their induction into parenthood is sorely tested by their new son.
Loved every page.
This book supposedly culminates and brings to an end the Kate Daniels series. I sincerely hope that isn’t the case. This book introduces interesting and intriguing new characters. I desperately want to follow and observe these additions as their characters evolve. But, knowing the authors, I’m sure I won’t be disappointed. This book is superlative in every way. It will give you hours of enjoyment and reading satisfaction. Buy this book ASAP. If you can’t afford it, beg, borrow, or….no don’t steal it. That wouldn’t be right. You’ll find it to be far more enjoyable than the best TV or the finest movie.
This is the last book in the Kate Daniels series. I’ve read every single one of them and like them all. I enjoyed that the books have a story arc that starts with book one and ends with this one–book ten. A last book has to meet high expectations and Ilona Andrews delivered. For me, no one writes action scenes like Andrews does. And the relationships between the characters have developed into complex, deep interactions that feel very real–like long time friends and family. Every once in a while, they’re just plain annoying–and that makes them all the more human. It’s going to be interesting to see what she comes up with next.
Love the story line and Kate Daniels is amazing. All the characters are great
I was afraid when opening this book.
It is the last one in the series, and I had high hopes for it but I also feared that it might not meet them.
When I started reading this book I simply fallen in love with it.
It is hard to put it down on the shelve but when doing it I had a smile on my face.
This was the perfect book for the whole series, and it answered a lot of questions that came from the previous books.
I would recommend it to everyone, and if anyone hadn’t read it yet or the series it is one of the must read.
Nice finish to great story.
I’m not even pretending that this review is easy to write.
From the moment I found out that Magic Triumphs would be the last Kate Daniels novel, I had a hard time accepting it. I couldn’t imagine a life without this series. But now, after reading 10+ novels about Kate’s battles with gods, monsters and the different power plays in and around Atlanta, I can say with absolute certainty that Kate deserves this ending.
Battle after battle she gave it all. Always for the better of the people of Atlanta, her family and friends and humanity. I felt for her. My heart ached at times!!!
Magic Triumphs was a fantastic and triumphant ending to my most favorite series of all.
I was sitting on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. When it got closer to 80 and 90% this book turned into a nail-biter. I wouldn’t be surprised if my heartbeat went up the closer I got the ending. This book had me entirely in its grasps.
In this epic conclusion, Ilona Andrews brought the entire cast together for this final battle. The plot that unraveled throughout the story, and the many answers to questions I didn’t know I had, kept my head spinning. The way the authors had this entire story executed was stunning. So many events and decisions in previous books suddenly made even more sense.
I’m utterly astonished by how well everything came together.
The fighting scenes were as always amazingly vibrant and easy to follow. The banter that I love and adore was there, but I had the feeling the overall feel of the book was a touch darker than any of the others. Getting to the end of it all was strenuous for everyone involved and it was noticeable. But all in all, I don’t think this story could have ended any other way. It felt RIGHT. You know how Kate always talks about how sometimes things just feel right? This ending gave me just this feeling.
Even though it’s very hard for me to say goodbye, especially to Kate, Curran, Julie and Derek, and now baby Conlan, I feel good about it. The relief at the end was palpable and satisfiying. And it seems that the authors are keeping the possibility open of coming back to the world of magic and tech in future books. You never know what kind of adventures are waiting around the next corner.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS EPIC EXPERIENCE!!!
So this is a bittersweet goodbye to the BEST UF series that has ever existed. It deserves every superlative I can think of. BRAVO to the authors for writing this epic masterpiece. I can’t say it enough, this series ROCKED, and if I’m ever stranded on an island, these are the books I want to have with me. I can’t imagine my life without them, and I’m utterly and deeply grateful for this experience. Since May of 2012, this series has ruled my life and I haven’t regretted it once. I hope that many other readers will find this series and fall in love with Kate and Curran the way I did. Goodbye for now!!
It is with mixed emotions that we say goodbye to Ilona Andrews Magic series staring Kate Daniels. Sad because this is the last time we will get to hang out with Kate as she defeats all the monsters and bad guys and happy because this book was the perfect ending to her story. In the meantime we know that this isn’t the end of our adventures with Ilona at the helm. There are many, many more exciting stories to come and I, for one, can’t wait.
Great book and I loved the ending!!
If you like a little bit snarky, strong female characters. You’ll enjoy the entire
Kate Daniels series. It starts strong and introduces you to a world where magic
has changed the world.
In each book, you and Kate learn more about her past in ways she doesn’t
expect but she also grows and matures into a person you want to know.
Be prepared to the series multiple times.
The whole series is great and should be started with the first book, Magic Bites. Strong heroine, great world building. Some have said they didn’t like the first book-I loved it and it sets the tone for the entitre arc. Magic Triumphs is #2 and #5 on seperarate best seller lists. Best urban fantasy ever!
Kate Daniels is a great series.
I was so excited to for this book to come out. It was well worth rhe wait.
