Love this series, excellent characters, phenomenal story and plenty of sarcasm
An epic finish to a brilliant series. Lots of action, suspense, emotion, twists, loss and surprises. Even though this is a satisfying ending with all the treads wrapped up nicely, I loved that there are openings left for spin-offs or even potentially for more in this series. The narrator was first class as usually, she really brings the story to life and makes you visualize both the characters and the story in your mind like a movie. I really do hope that the authors give us more of these characters and world in the future.

Left me wanting more
I couldn’t put it down! One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Fabulous characters, a great plot, danger, romance, and a great ending.

Review:
”Besides, if you can’t trust an ice giant driving a creeper van with a dead body inside, who can you trust?”
The end of an era and what can I say?
I have loved this world from the beginning and adore both Kate & Curran. I’m sad to see it end. The Pack. The People. The magic waves. I’ve loved it all. I will miss it.
Conlan was adorable. Curran was his usual sexy self (with a little extra thrown in). And the action was spectacular.
A little hard to get into it in the beginning, but by the end, I was turning pages fast, desperate to see what happened next.
Sad to see the series go, but keen as ever to see what the authors do next.
An amazing end to an amazing series.
Oh my gawd!!! What an absolutely AMAZING ending to the series! Nothing at all as I expected it to be but so much better!
As always, there is danger and mayhem in Kate’s life but this go around there is a danger so great that the ending is sure to be just that…the end. I thought for sure this was going to be all about her and her father. What a twisted mind these authors have to bring the end about in this manner.
Despite the drama that revolves around everyday life for the Lennarts, there is always humor. With Kate and Curran’s son’s growth comes a whole new world for Kate that she wasn’t quite prepared for.
”Curran and Derek were holding two furry bodies. Teddy Jo and I were locking manacles on their feet. Julie had doused the street with gasoline and set it on fire, holding the hose ready in case it got out of control. And Conlan presided over it all from his high chair in the doorway of the office completely naked, with a half-eaten turkey leg in his hand and a plastic bowl on his head. He saw Doolittle and waved the turkey leg at him.
“Baddadda!”
Why me?”
But as always, she quickly adapts, even if all the parenting books she’s read didn’t mention any of the problems she’s currently facing with raising a toddler.
’”That’s my boy.” I made my voice happy and light.
Conlan hugged my neck. “Bad.”
Razer was screaming because Curran had pulled his left arm off.
“Yes, bad. Look at Daddy ripping the bad man to pieces. Go Daddy!”
Conlan clapped his hands.
Curran snapped Razer’s spine with a loud crack, then twisted off the fae’s head.
“Look, Daddy killed him dead. All dead.”
Conlan giggled.’
But when things get real, it’s down and dirty, scary and gut wrenching. I cried when Barabas asked Christopher a question prior to the last big scene because it was so needed and it held the promise of a future that was so far out of reach for them all. I bit every one of my nails off during the showdown and then I proceeded to cry again and again. It was the culmination of a story that I’ve been engaged in for the better part of a year and I felt like I had quite literally been run through the wringer.
Good gawd, yank my Kindle out of my hands before I ever dig into another series of this magnitude again! My heart can’t take it! And yet, holy heck! To imagine I would have missed all of this. I’m so thankful for good book buddies who push me out of my comfort zone because I truly love every one of these characters.
P.S. My heart truly hurts to know these authors will not be moving forward with Julie’s story and from what has been explained to me regarding their concerns, I’m at a loss as to their reasoning. Julie is still a shining example of a heroine in the making.
Fabulous end to a wonderful urban-fantasy series!
In this final installment of the terrific, Kate Daniels (KD), urban fantasy series, Kate and her husband, Curran Lennart, have become parents to their very young son, Conlan. He is of an age at which a human child would be called a toddler, but Conlan is anything but a mere toddling child. He is as powerfully magical as his parents and adds a adorably entertaining new dimension to the Kate-and-Curran saga.
As always, there is constant wild adventure in this book, and all of the beloved, continuing cast of characters from the series make an appearance. In this novel, as well, the overarching plot regarding the series’ Big Bad, Kate’s father, the godlike Roland, is wrapped up in a very clever and utterly satisfying way.
To the relief of us rabid KD fans, the authors have begun a spin-off series, Iron Covenant, starring Hugh d’Ambray. The events of the first book in that series, Iron and Magic, occur just before the events in this book, and Hugh and his love interest have a cameo appearance in this book. In a remarkable, well motivated plot twist, this deadly villain from earlier in the KD series has an upright, new life, after being cut off from the evil Roland.
There is also strong hope for avid fans of the KD world that there will be other spin-offs in the future in the form of short stories or even another trilogy with Kate’s adopted daughter, Julie. And maybe, someday, if we are very, very lucky, they will write a series starring Kate’s magnificently magical son.
I experienced this story in audiobook format and, as always, Renee Raudman does a wonderful job with the narration. She’s one of the best in the business.
I rate this book as follows:
Heroine: 5 stars
Subcharacters: 5 stars
Fantasy World-Building: 5 stars
Action-Adventure Plot: 5 stars
Writing: 5 stars
Audio Narration: 5 stars
Overall: 5 stars
Conlan’s scenes are so funny & adorable. And it was incredible fun to read Kate’s scenes with the Order, especially when they see her in going full powered.
One of my favorite series!
this husband and wife team, Illona and Andrew craft these series that appeal to both sexes…these women aren’t damsels in distress..they usually kick ass !!..and usually meet at least one guy who can keep up with them..the characters are great and fully fleshed out..the villians are at least as delicious as the good guys..
I’ve always loved Kate Daniels, and this latest in the series doesn’t disappoint. I really liked how Hugh and Elara were woven in toward the end. It leaves the door open for the next two books in the Iron Covenant trilogy. I also loved Conlan, Kate and Curran’s baby. Nothing like a baby lion shifter!
I started reading Ilona and Gordon Andrew’s books with the Kate Daniels Series and was so sad to hear it was ending. But the last book put me through the wringer and tossed me into a bed of lovely flowers. Thank you, Ilona and Gordon for writing books that keep me up all night, make me want to strangle fictional characters and make me believe magic is real. I’ve read and loved all your series, but Kate and Curran will always be my favorite couple. Here kitty kitty. 🙂
I loved how the authors ended this tale. They created an amazing world filled with unforgettable characters. I’m going to miss them all. This was a fantastic series. I highly recommend reading from the beginning.
