In a province where magic is forbidden and its possessors are murdered by the cruel Praetor, young Ilan, born with the powerful gift of her ancestors, has only one hope for survival. Concealment. In the shadow of Dimmingwood, she finds temporary protection with a band of forest brigands led by the infamous outlaw Rideon the Red Hand.
But as Ilan matures, learns the skills of survival, and … survival, and struggles to master the inherent magic of her dying race, danger is always close behind. When old enemies reappear and new friendships lead to betrayal, will her discovery of an enchanted bow prove to be Ilan’s final salvation or her ultimate downfall?

i think i read it out of order if this is part of a series.. not sure if this was a one shot from the series.. will have to check
love this author tho
Couldn’t decide if I wanted to read the next book in the series or not. Still thinking, I may follow up, but not sure.
I was not expecting a multi book soap opera. This book leaves you hanging with no real ending. While I do not mind multi book stories, each should also stand alone.
Don’t waste your time.
Couldn’t get into it. Lots of facts without the emotional storyline behind it.
This is the book that made me fall in love with this author! It is a great story, the characters are perfection, and it is well written. It has mystery, suspense, and so much more!
The only thing I didn’t like is the sequel was not available on iBooks
great book for young readers!
Too short, little to know magic, don’t bother
I enjoyed getting to know the characters but you can’t buy the books for the rest of the series through iBooks, only audio
I like the characters that are building and I look forward to seeing how Ilan is going to interact with the possible mentor she has been introduced to, as well as the foretelling character from her dreams. Looking forward to the next in the series.
Fun
What was the plot? It appeared to be going nowhere.
Better for younger readers. Takes too long to set up, and is too short. Most likely could have combined books.
Love these
loved it,
Light-reading, fun fantasy book. Not a “Dune” book quality, but fine for a rainy day.
Enjoyed the book.
Pretty good read. I will be looking for the next in the series.
