Fun to read and keeps you wanting to find out what will they do next.
Lots going on in this book, with all of his family of men and her family of women, that will no doubt lead to other stories. So much detail, not too much repetition. If you like really big stories then this is one for you.
Just a very good read with a good story, strong characters and interesting story line.
loved this family!
What a great book this is one exciting male clan it will be fun to see how the rest of the guys turn out
I realize this is, and dutifully acknowledges it has no bearing on real people, but I was frustrated when no mention or credit was given to Caroline Herschel. Women’s accomplishments, always thwarted and hidden, need more recognition, not less. Especially not less from another women.
That aside, it was a cute premise, but couldn’t keep my attention. The characters and the writing weren’t compelling enough for me to finish the book.
I really liked this book. It was so enjoyable to read. I never knew what would happen. Characterization was awesome. The main characters were believable and I really identified with them. There were lots of interesting problems and I felt the solutions were unique in many cases. I smiled and chuckled a lot. It was a very satisfying book to read.
some sex
Very good
A good read.
Did not enjoy
Through the author’s mailing list I read an excerpt of Magic in the Stars and was at first ambivalent. However, as I do enjoy a bit of fantasy in otherwise realistic novels (see Mary Chase Comstock’s High Spirits at Harroweby) and eccentric characters,
I am certainly glad I did decide to read it as I enjoyed the full story very much. The first few pages were a bit confusing, as quite a few characters were introduced, but that was quickly overcome.
The heroine, maiden Lady Azenor Dougall (aka Aster), is the “Malcolm librarian” of her family using her special gift inherited through the females. The duties of the librarian entail the keeping and analysis of the zodiac charts of all family members, including the Ives branch. This brings her to the Ashford estate, seeking to warn Duncan Ives, the Marquess of Ashford, of pending doom. Duncan is not in residence; the estate is rundown and inhabited by several unattached males in comforable chaos: the marquess’ legitimate and illegitimate brothers as well as a young illegitimate son. It is very fitting that the hero, Duncan’s brother Theo, is an astronomer manufacturing lenses; he’s hoping to gain attention of the Royal Society for his telescopes.
And so the story progresses with Aster, a very resolute young lady, attempting to convince Theo of the accuracy of what the heavenly bodies have revealed to her. Theo is quite attracted to Aster; he listens patiently and politely to her arguments.
The story is well-written and told with grin-inducing humor. The antics and chaos of the Ives brothers’ household were especially enjoyable. I would definitely classify this as a romp and look forward to the next installment of the series.
I’ve not read a bad Patricia Rice book. This one, part of a series, is no exception. I definitely recommend this book. After reading the first book I purchased the next two in this series and will look for more. Great historical romance with lots of insight.
it was ok
I enjoyed it and would like to follow Aster as her future unfolds.
I really enjoyed the characters in this story and it makes me want to read the continuation story.
Fun to read
Not your cut-and-paste regency romance.
