From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Nightingale and The Great Alone comes an incandescent story about the resilience of the human spirit, the triumph of hope, and the meaning of home. In the rugged Pacific Northwest lies the Olympic National Forest—nearly a million acres of impenetrable darkness and impossible beauty. From deep within this old growth forest, a six-year-old girl … deep within this old growth forest, a six-year-old girl appears. Speechless and alone, she offers no clue as to her identity, no hint of her past.
Having retreated to her western Washington hometown after a scandal left her career in ruins, child psychiatrist Dr. Julia Cates is determined to free the extraordinary little girl she calls Alice from a prison of unimaginable fear and isolation. To reach her, Julia must discover the truth about Alice’s past—although doing so requires help from Julia’s estranged sister, a local police officer. The shocking facts of Alice’s life test the limits of Julia’s faith and strength, even as she struggles to make a home for Alice—and for herself.

Since I live in the Pacific northwest, I love Kristin Hannah’s references to the local landscape. Her characters are unique and her stories are original.
Love how the characters feel like people I am rooting for and can not wait to see what happens next . Always sad when I turn the last page of a book by Kristen Hannah
This book will have an impact on you long after to finish reading it.
I needed a book to get me out of my head the last couple of days and this one did it. It was not light and it was thought provoking but it really was a page turner and made me think about basic skills like language, etc. that we take for granted. Its a worth read
KRISTEN HANNAH YOU ARE THE BEST!!!! OH MY GOSH WHAT AN AMAZING STORY MAGIC HOUR IS. I WISH IT COULD HAVE GONE ON INDEFINITELY BUT ACTUALLY WHAT MORE COULD YOU ADD….IT WAS PERFECT. SUCH A BLESSING FOR LITTLE ALICE, AS I KNOW IN REAL LIFE, THAT THERE ARE TRULY ALICE’S OUT THERE. THANK YOU FOR WRITING THIS FABULOUS BOOK.
I usually enjoy Kristin Hannah’s books. Her material is original and thought provoking. Romantic situations, however are somewhat predictable based on how the story is progressing. Heroines are beautiful and heroes are handsome and dashing.
I am still reading this book, but love it so far!
love her books
This was my first book by the author and even though I applaud the good writing style and the somewhat original plot (an emotionally broken child psychologist needs to come to terms with her own trauma, while trying to find her way to an unknown “wild child’s” heart), I kind of expected more of the main storyline, that of the wild child, which got …
I picked this book up based off of other Kristin Hannah books. I wasn’t expecting it to be such a page turner but I was hooked from the beginning. I love how Kristin weaved true stories into Alice’s story making it feel story stick with you. Leaves lots of questions for the wild children of the world and why it’s been okay to put them in homes and …
Just when you think there isn’t another WWII story to tell, Hannah slaps you in the face with the amazing story of 2 sisters who will do anything to survive. Hannah at her best!
Loved this book.
I loved this so much I want a sequel.
The mystery of the little girl and how they were able to discover her past. How trauma can affect a child and hamper their development. Love and patience were truly inspiring to bring this child back to the real world.
An incredible story of love, hope and forgiveness. When a infamous psychiatrist misses signs and her patient kills some of her peers, Julia needs to pick herself up and start again. Not knowing where to start until her sister Ellie, the sheriff of their home town, gives her a call about a “Wild Child” that has been discovered. As the three of them …
this is also called ‘WILD’
Magic Hour is one of my favorite Kristin Hannah novels. The author did an excellent job of helping the reader live inside her characters’ heads, especially the traumatized young girl. It’s hard to imagine what it would be like for a toddler to survive under such wild circumstances, and then a few years later venture into civilization and try to …
Kristen Hannah never disappoints!
A rare and fantastic story that made me cry tears of satisfaction. An unputdownable read. There’s such pleasure in finding a new author to read. “”Magic Hour”, re-released as “Wild” is my second Kristin Hannah story and I loved it. Ms Hannah displays enormous skill in showing her characters’ personalities and their interconnectedness, their …
I could not put this book down. The characters were so well developed that I was sad when it was over.
