Starting a new school is never easy and this time not fitting in could cost lives. Despite being raised by shifters, my life was fairly ordinary . . . until I tried to break up a fight and got zapped with magic. Then, all hell broke loose. Power I didn’t know I had came surging out of me, revealing me as a witch and drawing unfavorable attention to my adoptive parents. Now, as the witches attempt … parents.
Now, as the witches attempt to use my concealment as an excuse to push an anti-shifter agenda, the only way to keep my parents—and myself—safe is to enroll in the elite Ravencrest Academy and prove I can control my newfound abilities.
Unfortunately, raw power doesn’t translate into competency and everything is way more difficult than I imagined.
Even with all the things working against me (like my complete ignorance of magic and witch society), I manage to make a few new friends and there’s a spark of something more with the last person I expect.
But I can’t let that distract me from the ugly truth that many who walk the halls of Ravencrest are eager to see me fail. To keep the peace between shifters and witches I must succeed . . . no matter the cost.

Magic Bound (Ravencrest Academy Book 1) by Theresa Kay is a wonderful story that I have had the privilege to read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new seris writen by a brand new author for me to read and I can not wait to read the next story in this wonderful series. I highly recommend this story to everyoen who loves reading about Witches, magic and shifters in their stories.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
I really loved this book!! It’s very well written with great characters. The storyline grabbed me from the start and kept me throughout the book. I would recommend reading this book. (I received this book as an arc and am leaving a voluntary honest review)
What happens when you get zapped by magic??? All sorts of mayhem! Awesome stuff!
This is a really good story so far!
I am totally hooked! Selene is an awesome character. Despite everything that she’s dealt with. Her life forever changed she doesn’t give up. She’s strong and there’s so much more to her. I also love how it’s about shifters and witches. I look forward to finding out more about Selene’s background and what will happen next. Can’t wait! It’s so good! Highly recommend this!
Per request, I was given a free ARC copy. This is my own honest review for this book.
I’m a fairly recent reader of Academy books and I find myself liking them more and more with each new one I find. This book helps me cement my feelings on how great they are!
Magic Bound is a great, easy read with down to earth, modern and relatable characters that make it a fairly easy paced page turner.
Selene is a witch who has only just discovered she’s a witch after being raised human by shifters. She’s thrown into the deep end, starting at a high expectations academy later than everyone else so finds herself behind in every sense of the word.
She needs to make it to keep her place at the academy and overcome all the difficulties she has to deal with at the same time as trying to figure out who she is.
Only downside I can find with the book is the mild cliffhanger at the end. For me, this isn’t a huge problem as I’m looking forward to reading book 2!
Theresa Kay
Selene was adopted by the Beta and his wife of Blue Ridge Shifters. She is known as a blank, her birth mother abandoned her. She loves her life on with the Shifters. Her cousin Reid takes her to a pack party. Everything is going ok, until she is settles a minor challenge. She decides to wait for Reid. One her way, she interupts a fight. A group of witches against a shifter. The witches throw magic at Selene. What happens next will change everything for her.
Turns out she has had magic, her magic was bound. Her mother didn’t abandon her, she gave her to her parents. So she would be safe. Now that the binding has come up done. They have no choice but to send her to Ravencrest Academy, while trying to stay safe themselves
When she Selene gets to Ravencrest, she runs into a some boy that looks down at her. He could not even spare her two seconds to help her find her way. When she finally gets to the headmaster’s office late. She finds out she is going by her mother’s family name. They made a cover story to for her. She will have a study guide. Turn out to be the same guy that would not help her, he is even worse.
The school year will be hard on Selene, having to deal with Tristan and his weird mood swings. She doesn’t understand her magic. Due to a spell, They will have to work together.
There is more going than meet they eye. You will see Selene have to fight to stay at school, deal with rich bullies, missing her family and so much more.
This book was really good as it has some many different things that people would like. Selene will slowly find her way. There is still so much unresolved. I can’t wait to read the next book. I would love to see her and Tristan make their way towards one another and learn more about her parents and the secrets.
I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion
This is fast paced. Lots of action. Interesting characters. Some of it is predictable, but the storyline is still interesting. This has a cliffhanger and of course leaves MANY unanswered questions.
YA PN, equality/ social justice issues, teen academy, politics, ethics, underdog heroine.
A comming of age PN Academy story that has students in cut throat competitiin for the best marks as an indicator of future success for government or other job oppertunities. Added to that is the complication of literally being raised by wolves for Selene, our main f character has the deck stacked against her. A frustrating story that hammers the reader with thinly veiled ideas of struggle for equality among different types of magicals, Class system within those groups. So basically power struggles, greed and fear are tearing all these characters and their cultures apart. This author has built a tragic world populated by small-minded people but I guess if everyone was perfect there would be nowhere for the story and characters to grow and overcome. Is this a reflectiin of how the author sees our world, if so it is a gloomy outlook. I want to see this world get better.
This is a great academy read that once started I just could not put down! Well written this has a fab storyline and has shifters and witches, magic, romance, mystery, intrigue, secrets and some great characters! I absolutely love Selene our kick ass heroine and cannot wait to find out more about her and her background and look forward to reading the next book!
