Middle-aged, Maggie Abernathy just wants to recuperate from cancer during the solitude of summer vacation after a tiresome year of teaching second grade. Maggie’s plans are foiled when precocious seven-year-old Chloe McIntyre moves in next door with her dad, John. Maggie’s life changes in a way she could never imagine when the pesky new neighbors steal her heart. With Maggie’s grown son away, her … son away, her ex-husband in the shadows, her meddling mother’s unannounced visits, and Chloe McIntyre on her heels, somehow Maggie’s empty house becomes home again.

I really enjoyed the characters in this book.
A very pleasant read – left me wanting to find out what happens to Maggie and Chloe and John.
real emotions – very relatable
It kept you guessing
Interesting story. Characters were well-developed.
Thoroughly enjoyed this novel, especially Chloe and the goofy dog. Very well written.
I loved this book so much I ordered the rest of the series and didn’t put my Kindle down until I finished them. The seven year old was the most enjoyable character I’ve read in a long time in spite of the fact that her dialogue was way too old for her years. This is a lovely story.
Well written if perhaps a bit predictable. Likeable characters. Worth the read.
I enjoyed this story. Although it was the usual happy ending, there were some things thrown in that made it interesting.
I loved reading the whole trilogy! There are two more books after this, and in order to find out exactly what happens with the three main characters, one has to read all three! They were worth the time!
True depiction of life in the south, made me laugh out loud having faced some of these same issues raising my 3 kids in a small town. After traveling the world for nearly 20 years this was quite an adjustment for everyone in our family. Great read, thanks.
Loved it.
A good summer read for vacationing. The little girl was a hoot; although she got under your skin, she found her way into your heart.
very good read and can’t wait to start second book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
A real page turner!
Great book a must read all the series
So clever – and great dialogue!
Good read.
It was okay. Characters were a little annoying. Story didn’t have an ending, but I don’t feel like it was interesting enough to buy the next book.
Kept my attention and I found the characters to be fun, energetic, and often relate-able. When the little girl who is quite the wild child is befriended by the cancer patient and they become friends it makes for a interesting read. It’s a love story.
