Middle-aged, Maggie Abernathy just wants to recuperate from cancer during the solitude of summer vacation after a tiresome year of teaching second grade. Maggie’s plans are foiled when precocious seven-year-old Chloe McIntyre moves in next door with her dad, John. Maggie’s life changes in a way she could never imagine when the pesky new neighbors steal her heart. With Maggie’s grown son away, her … son away, her ex-husband in the shadows, her meddling mother’s unannounced visits, and Chloe McIntyre on her heels, somehow Maggie’s empty house becomes home again.

This is my kind of book. Loved the characters and the setting. The story was interesting and kept me interested. Easy reading but not boring. Well written story. You’ll love it!
Loved this do much I bought and read the rest of the series. It was light hearted, while keeping you interested. Did not know it was a continuing series until I went to see what other boos she had. Tell you I don’t read the burbs about the other books
Characters were great. Loved the different ages.
Loved the 3 main characters. And the dog too
Encouraging, especially for anyone coping with cancer, but predictable plot.
Character has issues that can identify with, hot flashes, loss of husband, not wanting to deal with her illness, and bratty people. It was never maudlin but funny and romantic. Loved it.
This was a great read. Very human touches and a lot of reality. Loved it!
This was the first book I’ve read by this author. I enjoyed the character and plot development. I enjoyed the perspective of someone facing cancer.
Starting Over
Maggie is getting divorced because her husband finally admitted he was gay, she has new neighbors who’s little girl Chloe is a pest but loveable, and she is going through treatments for breast cancer. She is learning to be stronger with help from her mom, her new dog, Chloe and her handsome dad.
Refreshing to read about real life problems, like dealing with breast cancer issues in daily life, in an engaging story.
I liked it very much
Loved the characters and story line.
Excellent view into what the world of life looks like for people and how life challenges are real without being totally messy or bitter but moving forward with life.
Exceptional story with great characters…very human like rather than “super-hero’s”. Looking forward to her other books in this series.
Wonderful story about a woman’s journey as she deals with divorce and cancer
Loved this entire series!!!
The main character dealt with her divorce and cancer like many of us-closed and withdrawn. Only when she began to realize how she was hurting others did she really grow and deal effectively with her life.
Enjoyed it very much. Have already read the 2nd book and am partway through the 3rd one. I really like this author!!
Wish it didn’t end
I liked it because it was about normal people and didn’t involve going to bed as the only way to be romantic. Reading the 2nd book now.
