Middle-aged, Maggie Abernathy just wants to recuperate from cancer during the solitude of summer vacation after a tiresome year of teaching second grade. Maggie’s plans are foiled when precocious seven-year-old Chloe McIntyre moves in next door with her dad, John. Maggie’s life changes in a way she could never imagine when the pesky new neighbors steal her heart. With Maggie’s grown son away, her … son away, her ex-husband in the shadows, her meddling mother’s unannounced visits, and Chloe McIntyre on her heels, somehow Maggie’s empty house becomes home again.

Loved loved Loved the series
You have to read them in order
Loved the characters. The humor kept me thoroughly entertained!
A light hearted story about surviving divorce, cancer and discovering yourself.
Chloe the next door neighbor kid is a kick. Has her own set of issues from a child view. Maggie’s mom is supportive but not overbearing.
Now on to book 2 and I’m sure it will be good also.
Midway through reading the book now. So far very enjoyable.
Story of a 2nd grade teacher who has breast cancer and is in radiation treatment. Her son is grown and gone. Her husband has just left her (not sure he knows about the cancer) because after 23 years of marraige he finally admits he is gay. Next door neighbor is attractive, but daughter is a pest and ex/mom is flacky. Maggies’ mom is supportive. This is not a romance. It is also not a complete book, it is part 1 and continues.
Heart warming story. Maggie and Gladd were the perfect balance for a challenging summer.
I wanted to keep reading to see what would happen next.
Maggie, a schoolteacher, faces summer alone as divorce and breast cancer interrupt her life. Reluctant to share her divorce or her cancer diagnosis with anyone, she holes up in her house and avoids everyone.
Enter Chloe, her precocious 7 year old neighbor along with her handsome father, John and Maggie’s meddling mother. Chloe keeps her on her toes and her mother does too.
Summer becomes busy as more people and situations complicate and add to Maggie’s life. She finds joy and a life worth living with a dash of romance thrown in. An enjoyable read.
This was a great book with realistic characters, great story and a happy ending
loved Chloe. Maggie, not so much.
Just a good, easy reading woman’s romance story.
I fell in love with the characters and wanted to continue to follow them.
Binge read the whole series!
Great book!!!
IU enjoyed the 3 book set.
I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. Left me wanting to know more about what the characters are doing.
Good book!
Quick read, kept me entertained. Loved the kid and the dog.
Interesting story but the proofreading was lacking. Many edits were not deleted when changed, which detracted from the readability.
Maggie a woman battling cancer also rejection from a husband that she loved for 20+ years. A young girl that moved in next door that didn’t connect to Maggie’s pain but understood that she needed to help her heal with the innocence only a child could do. A lovely book. I read 3 to 4 books a week due to the effects of chemotherapy….but that’s not what made me relate to the book it was a ray of sunshine when chemotherapy is a very dark punishing world.
