Middle-aged, Maggie Abernathy just wants to recuperate from cancer during the solitude of summer vacation after a tiresome year of teaching second grade. Maggie’s plans are foiled when precocious seven-year-old Chloe McIntyre moves in next door with her dad, John. Maggie’s life changes in a way she could never imagine when the pesky new neighbors steal her heart. With Maggie’s grown son away, her … son away, her ex-husband in the shadows, her meddling mother’s unannounced visits, and Chloe McIntyre on her heels, somehow Maggie’s empty house becomes home again.

Loved it from beginning to end!! Hard to put down.
This was a great book, it gives the reader a look into the thoughts of a cancer patient, a woman dealing with divorce and an empty-nest. Maggie seems to be a down to earth person who is living in the real world dealing with real issues, but can still see into the heart of a child.
Wonderful story of a middle age woman struggling with a new life after divorce. It was uplifting, funny and emotional. Definitely recommend this book!
A “Hallmark” plot, but I loved reading it anyway… maybe because I had just begin chemo at the time; but, especially the child drew me in.
Maggie Abernathy is not having a good year. First, her husband of over twenty years announces that he’s gay and asks for a divorce. Then she is diagnosed with breast cancer, has a lumpectomy followed by daily radiation therapy. Her son is doing an internship east in Boston and won’t be coming home. And a new family moves in next door and Maggie loses all privacy as seven-year-old Chloe treats Maggie’s house and yard as her own. The book is realistic and surprisingly entertaining. The humor ramps up when Maggie’s mother gives her a bulldog puppy who destroys both her vegetable and flower gardens. And unexpected romance builds as Maggie gets to know Chloe’s dad. A satisfying read.
Maggie is a great character. She pulls the reader in while telling her story. The new neighbors add to her journey and story. All characters show strength in their development. Encouraging and riveting story.
So refreshing to see someone who is not young find love and show courage and wisdom.
Very enjoyable and the story continues. Can’t wait to read the sequel.
good read, kept my attention and was inspirational to the end.
I liked the story. I thought it was a good read.
Great starting over story.
A funny, happy read!
Great story with love able characters
Thoroughly enjoyed this story. Easy to read. Drew me right in. Can’t wait to read the next one.
I’m glad I downloaded this book. Each character is unique and storyline is good so it’s really enjoyable to read. However, I feel it’s a bit drag to have separate books or to be have series. Maybe, it’s just me not being patient in wanting to know what will happen.
I loved reading this character-driven story of overcoming cancer and finding love again. A fantastic sweet romance.
I loved Chloe! She gave me so many great laughs. Just what I needed.
I really enjoyed the book and appreciate a romance involving a middle aged woman. Maggie is an interesting character, her relationship with the little girl and her dad who move next door is absolutely heart warming.
I want to read the next book in this trilogy.
Love love loved these books. I immediately went for the next in the series and stayed up way too late to find out what happens with these characters. Her mom reminds me of my mom with her knowing wisdom. Fantastic reads
I didn’t realize it was 3 parts I wouldn’t have started it .
