With a fascinating look at the world of human trafficking, MAGGIE’S REVENGE combines Women Sleuths mystery with international crime and a dash of Romance. It is part 6 of the Wounded Hearts series but can be read as a standalone novel.
Jacquie Biggar weaves this fast-action story with a masterful hand. Undercover DEA agent Maggie Holt has been captured by the Chinese-Mexican cartel leader. Her escape attempt, together with Olga and several other women, has been severely punished by beatings and torture. Her spunk, in the face of her trials and tribulations, tells you all you needed to know about her character. “The soldier pointed his rifle right at Maggie’s face. She imagined she could feel the laser beam right between her eyes and for a brief moment she contemplated giving him a reason to make that shot.“
Her partner, Adam O’Connor, blames himself for her fate, and chases leads in a despite attempt to bring her back home. His boss fears that his feelings for Maggie will jeopardize rescue efforts. Meanwhile, his old SEAL Team Chief, Frank Stein, who would compete with him for Maggie’s love, offers his help to find her.
For all the heart-in-the-throat action she’s been though, Maggie manages to brace her revengeful feelings and moderate them into a reasonable goal. “Her heart would be grateful if Chenglei disappeared—forever—but since that wasn’t likely to happen, the next best thing would be to lock him up and throw away the key. After they found out what he knew.”
Highly recommended. Five stars.
I’ve always enjoyed Ms. Biggar’s characters. They are likeable and easy to care about. It’s what keeps me turning the pages. And this book is no different. Maggie is a great heroine. You’ll enjoy her challenges and find yourself rooting for her in the end.
Love it when a book has my attention from the start. This has it all, great story line, characters (love the heroine), romance, suspense and page-turning action. Highly recommend Maggie’s Revenge!
I have read and enjoyed the first five books of the Wounded Hearts series, but I’ve been eager since book two to find out what happened to Maggie. She has been undercover for the DEA but then was put into horrible conditions with the other women sold into sex trafficking by cartel leader, Chenglei. Back home, her partner, Adam, hadn’t given up hope of finding her. Adam joins forces with his boss, Amanda, and Ex-Seal Frank in that search. Maggie is an amazing character. She is strong, funny, determined, and caring. I like her interactions with the other women and how she can take care of them and herself. I could feel the heat of the desert or the blinding rays of the sun in the richly written settings. This is my favorite of the series so far and one that I kept reading just one more chapter until I was done. I can’t wait to continue to “The Seal’s Temptation” to see what happens next! I highly recommend “Maggie’s Revenge” and the entire series.
I have only read this book of the series. While not having read the prior ones, I did enjoy this. It was written in a multiple POV format. Getting that glimpse into the three people involved really helped me to understand a little bit more of the background and where the author was leading these characters.
Maggie is a DEA agent. She went deep undercover and was kidnapped. Maggie has now been missing for almost one year. Her DEA partner, and one time lover, Adam is frantic to see her safe return. Adam used to be a part of Navy SEAL team 5. His former chief in the SEALs is Frank. Frank was discharged from the military and now working on the family’s ranch in Texas. Frank has been having thoughts of the missing agent while Adam is still thinking that he is in love with her but has been having some naughty thoughts about his boss, Amanda.
The question, who does Maggie choose, is up for grabs. The stage is set for the next book.
My heart went out to Maggie. What she’s willing to go thru to save the other women. But will she break before that happens and before she is sold. I wonder who will come to her rescue first and who will be her one and only. Frank or Adam. Action, danger, abuse. I read book two and learned of Maggie. That’s why I jumped to this book to see what happens.
A thrilling addition to a series with equally interesting heroes and heroines. Wounded Hearts is thrilling series with equally interesting heroes & heroines! Frank (the retired chief who’s still in command) and Adam (the steadfast but cocky DEA partner) have been searching for Maggie (the feisty undercover agent) for a long time – which is fitting because I’ve been eagerly anticipating the day they’d finally find her. I always love following this close-knit (even when they are estranged) team of men and women as they face the ups and downs of striving to make the world a better place. Spending time at Frank’s cattle ranch was as intriguing as seeing Maggie’s deadly escape from the brutal world of a drug lord and human trafficker. Now I can’t wait for (new addition to the Wounded Hearts world) Amanda Rhinehold’s story!
Undercover work is a gamble with life. To step in to this you must be prepared to do anything to survive. Yet the truth of what anything means isn’t real until you are living it. Not even taking into account the scars you will bear inside and out if you survive. Only intelligence, strength, and determination will carry a person through.
This book is an rollercoaster ride of revenge, human trafficking. drug cartels, hostages and governmental screw up. if you want a slow paced boring story this book is not for you. The fast paced story keeps readers enthralled and enticed. Character development is concise and too the point. You like the heroine and feel her emotions at a gut level and really dislike the bad guys. You have to finish this book to see how Maggie, Frank, Adam and Amanda solve the problems and bring the bad guy down
Really, really good book
