A dark and twisty story with some romance thrown in too!
I truly loved this book. It had everything you could want in a perfect read; mystery, romance, loss, love, sadness, humor, drama, and so much more. Mya O’Malley managed to beautifully write in a paranormal twist without one ounce of cheesiness, and made is super believable to the reader! That is not an easy task to take on.
Naomi is starting over after leaving her abusive boyfriend Nick.
“He hadn’t been nice to her, and his jealous ways had finally provoked her to end their tumultuous two-year relationship.”
She moves into a house with a cemetery practically in her backyard. It doesn’t bother her though, as she is a writer and hopes to find some inspiration for new novels. “She couldn’t wait to dive into some extensive research about her own house and the mysterious should who were laid to rest beyond her window. She may have gotten more than she bargained for and questions what she soon starts to experience in her home. Is it her imagination or reality?
“Naomi supposed her vivid imagination was one of the reasons she had gone into the field of writing to begin with.”
She starts seeing an apparition of a woman. Its starts out as little flashes of light in the corner of her eye and slowly starts to become more pronounced. It is as if the woman is trying to reach out to her for something. She is also starting to move on in the dating world and hits it off with a local guy named Ryan. Things seem to be going well in all aspects until the dreams start. She knows she is being told something she just can’t figure it out yet. A walk through the cemetery leads her to a grave with the name Maggie T. Field.
“She took in the dates of her birth and her death. The poor thing had only been twenty-six years old. How very sad. Without thinking, she opened her notepad and she scribbled madly. Questions, questions, questions… Maggie had a story to tell. It felt right with a chill running her bones once more, at last, Naomi knew she had found her muse.”
What follows is a lot of twists and turns that one can’t predict or see coming. Naomi has many obstacles to face, choosing between the new guy she thought she felt more than friendship for, Ryan, and the new neighbor, that steals her breath away, Bryce and his daughter Holly. Top all that off with a newfound talent for being a sensitive and you have a very exciting story to follow.
“Naomi, we need to figure out what all of this means. This connection you have to the paranormal is the key to solving this whole mess. They trust you, and they need your help to find peace. Is there any way possible that you can attempt communication with either one of them again.”
WOW!!! This book is so much more than a typical story. It’s a story within a story that is being written as we watch it unfold. Ok, that’s not exactly right, but the MC is a “struggling writer” who discovers a gift when she moves to a new house and begins to write a book. I don’t want to give anything away so can’t really explain any further.
As this is the first book I’ve read by this author – I’m not sure how this can be a trilogy but I am absolutely going to read the rest to see how it all plays out.
The characters in this story are all very well written. The descriptive writing held my attention from beginning to end and I really enjoyed the paranormal edge to it. Ohhhh while writing this review, I know what book 2 is going to be about (I think). The secondary characters all play an important part moving the story along from one setting to the next.
I will be taking a closer look at the headstones in the cemetery across the street from my house the next time I take a walk.
I would recommend this to everyone including my elderly mother’s book club.
Maggie is the first book in the Maggie Trilogy by Mya O’Malley. It is a very well written paranormal romance. This is the first time I have read any work by this author so was unsure what to expect from this book. I have to say that I was hooked from the very first page and did not want to put this book down. Damn real life for getting in the way and making me go to work wondering what was going to happen next.
Naomi is a writer who moves into a house on the edge of a graveyard. When the spirit of one of the dead people in the graveyard regularly visits her house, Naomi becomes intrigued as to how this young girl (Maggie) died. When Naomi delves further and further into Maggie’s death, she’s convinced that her death was not the drowning accident that the police are saying it was.
There is so much to this story that will take your breath away. There are many twists and turns that leave you reeling and a conclusion you will not see coming.
An important element to the story is Naomi’s relationships. She’s recently split from the dangerous controlling Nick, who she is afraid of. She has been having a relationship with Ryan who becomes more like her best friend rather than a boyfriend. Then there is the gorgeous single dad Bryce who has just moved in beside her who has her heart fluttering just by being in his presence.
This is a fantastic book. The storyline will have you hooked and the characters are so well written. This book sucks you in and doesn’t let you go. I can’t wait to read the other 2 books in this trilogy which are sitting in my kindle shouting to me.
Maggie was so full of twists and turns it was so hard to put down. Although I had my suspicions about certain aspects, I was never quite sure until all was explained. I have not read a lot of supernatural type books before but really enjoyed this one and look forward to reading the sequels. It will be interesting to see how Mya O’Malley develops the core characters Naomi and Bryce.
Maggie is a great story full of mystery and romance and the paranormal. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the way that Naomi, the main character, explored her story and environment. I am a big fan of paranormal romances and this has been one of the best I have ever read, I look forward to reading the rest of the trilogy. I found the relationships between the characters to be quite dramatic, though they were done in such a way that it created more depth of emotion in each character which I quite enjoyed. It has been quite a rollercoaster of emotions while reading this novel. I would highly recommend it to anyone that likes paranormal romance.
Maggie by Mya O’Malley is book one of the Maggie Trilogy. This book is not like many of the other books I’ve read. This is the first book I’ve read by this author but I really enjoyed it!
Naomi is a very imaginative writer and tries to stay open to her surroundings and uses it as inspiration for her novels. Maggie has been a huge inspiration for Naomi and there is sure a mystery to solve. While Naomi tries to solve Maggie’s mystery, she also has her hands full when she meets Ryan and then Bryce. Who knew, after her dating past, that she’d find two great guys.
This book was very entertaining and I couldn’t put it down! I had to know what was going to happen next. It was impossible to predict what was going to happen and how things would play out which made the book even better to read. I can’t wait to read book two!
Maggie (Maggie Trilogy Book 1) by Mya O’Malley was a thrilling read! Normally I would never mix a thriller with the supernatural but I could not resist. This book had me struggling to put the book down, I was captivated by the story. The plot is thick and keeps you glued to your screen. I am sure just the thrills and chills will give me nightmares but it will be well worth it. I could easily see everything unfolding like a movie, I cannot wait to get into books 2 and 3.
Naomi just moved in to what should be her dream writing home! An old house sitting on the edge of a cemetery with graves dating back to the 1700s. It’s definitely a paranormal writers dream! Then weird things start happening and she finds that the house and land beyond is haunted by a young lady named Maggie. Naomi decides Maggie’s story is the next thing she’s going to write and finds herself in serious danger as she digs deeper into her investigation.
She finds herself torn between two seemingly perfect men, Ryan and Bryce. Oh, and also has her ex stalking her!
What will she find as she continues to dig? Will she solve the mystery or die trying? This story is filled with mystery and keeps you guessing as to what is going to happen next. There’s a huge plot twist at the end (but I’m proud to say I saw it coming!) This was an interesting read and I’m looking forward to what comes next in this series.
When it comes to Maggie, I could not put this down. I started reading one evening, next thing I know I had finished the book and it was 4 am. Mya O’Malley knows how to tell a story, and keep you hooked and throw in some unsuspecting twists that have you screaming “oh my god!” And waking up your husband in a worry in the middle of the night. I enjoyed every second of this book, I loved Naomi and she was my kind of heroine, having been in several situations as her, (minus the ghosts). I too was torn between Bryce and Ryan, but who could blame us? I’m super excited to get started on the next Book, Naomi.
5 out of 5 stars
Naomi fell in love with her little house that was built centuries ago, with a backdrop of a cemetery in her backyard. She was drawn to it for many reasons, even some she3 doesn’t recognize. Her life has been a bit chaotic and she finds herself suddenly wrapped up in one crazy mishap after another while trying to navigate her social life. Much to her dismay, her friend Amy convinces her to go on blind double dates over and over, trying to help her to overcome the aftermath of a disastrous relationship. In the course of these adventures, she meets a mysterious man who piques her interest in many ways. He’s kind, adventurous has a lof of life and full of kindness she hasn’t always known. His interest in her life feels just so good. Then walks in Bryce and she’s suddenly trying to maneuver her feelings for both men while tackling her writer’s block and a beloved cat’s antics that have her scratching her head.
What Naomi doesn’t see coming is the appearance of Maggie, the ghost of a young woman who is in peril. She can’t move on, is restless and is in desperate need of peace. In order to find that peace, she’s drawn to Naomi and attempts to get her to help her find what she seeks. Through their interactions, Naomi is faced with a mystery she’s determined to figure out. She’s going to figure it out, even if it costs her the love of a good friend, a budding relationship and oddly enough, some of her sanity.
Through this whole adventure, she’s on, I found myself totally enraptured. The characters are well built, entertaining and have a touch of rawness that makes them so real. I never saw it coming, the truth behind Ryan, what really happened to Maggie and even Nick’s involvement in some of it. I loved how I was so caught up in their story. I felt all the emotions and then some. It’s such a good book with a paranormal spin that added a terrific layer to the mystery. I commend the author for making the paranormal happenings believable and real. I felt an awesome connection to Maggie and Naomi. It’s such a fabulous read!
Maggie by Mya O’Malley
“Have you ever wondered what it would be like to share your home with an unearthly spirit who can’t find closure?”
This book gripped my attention and never let it go! It’s an intriguing story that keeps you reading to find out what’s next Between Ryan and Naomi as well as Naomi and Bryce. Mrs. O’Malley has done a great job with giving you the details you need to picture the story as you’re reading it! Following Naomi, as she tries to write maggie’s story and deals with a dating dilemma with a twist of Danger Makes this book a true page-turner. I look forward very much to read more from Mrs. O’Malley I enjoy her writing style.
Maggie (Maggie Trilogy Book 1)
by Mya O’Malley
I couldn’t put this book down once I started reading. There were twists and turns, and as soon as you thought you knew what was going on there was a twist, it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. It was interesting and entertaining to see how Zelda (the cat) reacted to Maggie. Naomi was very open minded to the ghost in her house. Although Naomi could be very naive at times she did have a big heart and truly wanted to help. Even though Naomi just got out of a bad relationship she was still willing to let her friend set her up, which turned out to be a very bad date. If it wouldn’t have been for that bad date she wouldn’t have met Ryan who happen to be at the bar when she was on her bad date. Ryan was very attractive and there seemed to be a connection right away. Bryce and Holly, Naomi’s attractive new neighbor and his daughter are two refreshing characters in this story. I don’t want to give anything away but I loved this book, there is romance, suspense, and some wonderful characters and I highly recommend reading it.
What a mysterious, sometimes fun, sometimes scary story to read. Ghosts, jealous lovers, and best of friends.
This is not my first book by O’Malley because she writes such entrancing stories of mystery. Surprises at every turn.
Naomi is the female main character and has many jobs. Writer, mystery solver, friend, lover. She is strong willed and smart. Finding the ghost of Maggie, solving the mystery surrounding her life and death and dealing with Ryan, Nick and Bryce, leaves Naomi a little exhausted, crazy almost.
I really enjoyed reading about Naomi and Maggie and look forward to reading the next story in this trilogy.
This was an amazing story full of mystery and shows that true love last forever in life and in death.
Naomi is a writer who moves into a new home. Looking for something to create a story she takes a wander through the grave yard behind her house, where she comes across the grave of a young woman called Maggie.
Wondering what awful thing ended this young girls life she sets out to find out Maggie’s story, uncovering more than she realised.
This book is full of surprising twists and turns and keeps you guessing as the story of Maggie unfolds.
Maggie was a great novel! With equal parts suspense, mystery and romance, I had trouble putting this paranormal story down! This novel had great characters, story and plot. The development of everything was great! I can’t wait to read the rest of this series, and join in more of Naomi’s fears and adventures. This is the first time I’ve read a novel by Mya O’Malley and it definitely won’t be the last!
Maggie is the first book in the trilogy series by Mya O’Malley. I really enjoy Mya O’Malley’s work. Her attention to detail and story telling ability is amazing. The characters are fully developed and complex which makes it easy to relate to. The story has many subject matters, mystery, excitement, and suspense to name a few. When you read this story, I would keep an open mind. This story has a theme of spirit guides. I loved the story of Naomi. She is a writer that gets her inspiration from spirits in a haunted house. There are also questions about her personal feelings to two different people. The mystery around Naomi is captivating. Will Naomi sort out her feelings and choose someone? Will her story about the spirits become more than a story? One will have to read this book to find out.
This was such an interesting book! Definitely different than anything I have read before. It was a story unfolding as you were reading because the MC is a writer. She moves to a new house and started to write a book. I love all of the main characters because they’re so well written. I couldn’t put this one down and I am looking forward to reading more by this author in the future!
Happy reading!
Oh my word! I was terrified to read this because I do not do ghosts well but I am SO glad I did! This was hands down the best book I have read all year. Incredible writing, rich characters, surprising plot points, and a feeling of absolute realism are woven throughout this entire book. I can not recommend it enough! I am already hooked and can’t wait to read the next. Absolute perfection. 5 stars.
This is the first book I have read from this author and wow I was blown away. I fell in love with her writing style right away. I love mystery and romance but she has exceeded all my expectations. This is the first book in the Maggie Trilogy and it was a great way to start an addicting series. I could not put this book down for anything. It only took me a few hours to devour this awesome story.
Naomi is an author that is looking for her next best seller. She just can’t find a muse that she is falling in love with. Naomi goes out to do some thinking and she finds herself in a cemetery. She sees a grave that catches her eye and she feels an instant connection with this spirit. Naomi reads the name Maggie and she is intrigued by what happened to her. Naomi finds herself in a love story herself with two men that she can’t stop thinking about. She has the dark and gorgeous Ryan and the hot single dad Bryce. Naomi is torn because they are both great guys but which one is right for her? Also as she figures out the truth about Maggie danger comes to her who can she trust more Ryan or Bryce?
“Maggie” by Mya O’Malley will have you questioning whether ghosts are real or not. I found the premise of this story to be fascinating. Our main character, Naomi, is inspired to write a novel about a woman named Maggie who is buried in the cemetery behind Naomi’s home. Naomi believes Maggie has an untold story about her death and begins seeing her ghost.
As I was reading, there were a few things that bothered me. For example, everyone seems to believe in Naomi’s story about seeing the ghost of Maggie without much skepticism. Also, at times the dialogue seemed unnatural. However, this was an easy and enjoyable read. I would recommend it to anyone who likes paranormal romance.
