As a starry-eyed child, I wanted to believe my shining prince would ride up on a white horse, present a diamond ring, and carry me away to his castle. His love would be endless and our lives would be the happily ever after all girls dreamed about. I never knew the fairytale was nothing more than a lie.I was a good girl.Until one night, one tiny trip, one little mistake, one moment of … one moment of indiscretion.
When I fell down the rabbit hole, I stumbled into the absolute fantasy, succumbing to their whims and rituals. As their very naughty girl, I embraced the nightmare and refused to ever leave.
The Darkland is mine.
And those monsters will kneel before their one true Queen.
Madness is a dark romance/reverse harem story.
An admitted word fiend, KAILEE REESE SAMUELS loves pushing her readers’ boundaries with original, addictive storylines and unexpected twists to keep you turning the page. Her genre-busting, lyrical writing style is punctuated with elements of dark romance, romantic suspense, psychological thriller, mafia, MC, BDSM, and realism.
As the author of JULIET, 22, SHE/HE, UNSPOKEN, POPPY, and TAT BOOKS (Salt Kissed Love, Famous Last Words, and the upcoming Every Minute I Love You), she believes first and foremost her books should be entertaining and serve as the perfect escape with a delicious beverage, a box of chocolate, and plenty of tissues.

This sure as hell isn’t one of the fairytales I was told as a child, but hot damn does this one twist the sheets or what!?!?!
This is so not a HEA, let’s get that said right away. It is a twisted dark tale, in which you seriously do not know top from bottom. And the Rabbit surely smoked something to not want to be late!
There is so much beauty in the ugliness that it is scary. Scars that define us are incredibly beautiful.
Kailee Reese Samuels is an incredible writer that has such a wonderful way to drag you down that rabbit hole and keep you strapped and restrained all the way through this intoxicating adventure.
Juliet is found if you really look deep and the Merrymen will haunt you in the most delicious and delightful ways.
Oh my lord talk about being on a rollercoaster ride for one. This book was a ahhmazing. This is my first book to read by Kailee and I have to wonder how I’ve missed her she speaks to my level of darkness oh so well.
This was one wild ride from the sinister collection each of these stories keep getting better and this one…phew was something else I’m still trying to deal with it.
I’ve always loved Alice in Wonderland it’s always been a favorite of mine and the way Kailee wrote this story uh I’ll be looking at this story in a whole different light.
It’s one that’s definitely a must read for those who love to read dark & twisted reads
Do what makes you happy.
Logic doesn’t get a vote because madness infects those in love.
Madness is just that. Pure and simple, I feel as though I fell down the rabbit hole and have yet to find my way out. I have been thinking about this book for DAYS and still do not have words…..
So much noise… so much noise… clocks ticking… cards flying…
I can not explain this one dear reader, you will just have to hang on tight and jump in with both feet!
True to the style of KRS it’s hotter than hell, beautiful, dark, twisted with a side of WTF did I just read!?
You’re an innocent victimized by circumstance and a survivor by choice.
It’s not safe here in the underground, but I’m safe with him. And that matters.
It is everything.
“Don’t fall prey to the imps inside of your pretty skull. ”
**Note: This book is categorized on Amazon as Dark Fantasy Horror. It would be a mistake to go into it looking for a HEA romance. It never claimed to be such.**
“So much noise…
So much noise…
clocks ticking…
cards flying…”
With that out of the way… My first statement would be to look before you jump. Never, EVER has that applied more to a KRS book than here. As has been noted repeatedly, the title was absolutely straightforward for a rare change. Here lies Madness, in its most clinical sense. With that being said, the meat of the story is a, true to the original text, retelling of the Lewis Carroll favorite, Alice in Wonderland. There are only a handful of finer details that weren’t referenced or represented. I won’t (and they certainly won’t) spoil anyone’s experience though.
Onto the fangirling With all due eloquence, WOW, WOW, WOW. I’ll be totally frank and say they this is not at ALL what I was anticipating from a Samuels approach. That detracted not a bit from my immersion and dare I say…addiction? I DID want more. Is that not often the case with this author though? For the #Ranierofangirls out there, this one is a bit of a “spot the Sugargrove character”. That adds a bit of fun too
“Go back to the fairytale…”
“Go back to the fairytale…”
“Go back to the fairytale…”
There isn’t MUCH I can about the plot if I’m brutally honest. Spoilers will be REAL damned hard to make sense of Is it DARK, TWISTED, TOTALLY F*UCKED UP, HOTTER THAN HADES??? Oh yes, yes indeed
You’ve GOT to read this one for yourself. In more than one sense. NO one could properly explain it to you. Additionally, it’s a phenomenal edition to the Sinister Fairytales Collection. The prose is out of this world. The opening poem (somewhere between a ballad and a sestina, forgive my ignorance here) is the perfect drumroll.
To you, the brave reader, I say hold the hell onto your seat and just enjoy it. Stop trying to make sense of Madness when indeed, there is little to be found.
“You need to stop thinking and actually doing. Do what makes you happy.”
A must read that had me rapidly turning the pages in this fairytale respinning and telling of one of my favorites. I laughed, I panted, I cried and I adored the humor, angst, twists and amazing characters. A must read that will not disappoint.
This is a dark read that has u thinking the concession stand of state of mind. So much noise that have you needing to clear your mind.
Madness? I think this is what KRS experienced while writing this hit. I breathed every word of this book as if I needed it to survive. Must read? Absolutely!!!
The perfect title for the journey you are about to embark on…the riveting and psychotic take on the classic fairytale, Alice in Wonderland. Don’t expect cute and whimsical characters, or endearing animals and creatures, or even a simple plot. You will not find those things here, but what you will find, is an enchanting, dark, wild, mind-bending story sprinkled with a few smile-inducing moments.
With these expectations, you will be thrilled, horrified, mystified, and surprised as you eagerly turn page after page. Make a pot of tea, grab some snacks, and settle down to read this sovery fantastical tale …
I am finding it hard to find the right words to describe this amazingly well written dark, twisted, and flipping hot mind screw of a read.
Kailee has floored me with her talent of storytelling with her own take of Alice in Wonderland.
This book is dark, and I am talking very dark. It is twisted and the steam…holy schnikes. When I got to the ending, I got another surprise – I didn’t expect to read what I read AT ALL and I love the fact that I got slapped with the unexpected twist. I am not going to description of the story itself though – I don’t want to give anything away. Because this book is more than a read, it’s a flipping experience.
If you are the least bit sensitive to the darker side of romance, be warned because this read is sinister. But if you can play in the dark, definitely grab this one and enjoy the ride. I know I did
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wow!!!!
Be very worried when you decide to Fall Down The Rabbit Hole.
The story have everything from crazy…madness…dark…sex OMG!!!! This retelling of Alice in Wonderland will take you for a ride of you life.Loved it!!! A must read.
I’m so not going to give away any spoilers. What I will say is Kailee is a writing wizard. This is a thrill ride. I can’t believe she has a way with all the words like this.
Awesome, incredible, and breathtaking.
A Dark and Twisting a tale. A gripping story that takes you on a dark journey through a very twisted “Wonderland” where nothing and everything makes sense. A masterfully woven tale with surprises on every page.
Will you Dare to follow the Hare?
There is dark and there is twisted and then there is KRS! Wow…my mind is still all messed up! There is really no way to explain this book without spoilers so all I will say is first, beware because it may cause triggers and second be prepared for the exact title of this book! This is definitely one that I have to take a day to calm my brain and then go back and reread. If you think you have read it all then you have NOT read KRS so be prepared for one crazy hell of a ride!
How do I start this review? Where do I actually begin to relate this rather wondrous and fascinating tale? First, let me say that as you go further and further into the story, you realize that you are in a dreamscape. A dreamscape so perfectly created, so beautifully rendered, that you have the actual experience of a dream. I’ve read books depicting dreams, altered reality, in the past. But I’ve never experienced anything close to where this book took me.
It’s not a typical romance. It’s more of an erotic adventure into an alternate state of consciousness. Geez, Kailee, did you feel like you were dreaming when you wrote it? You had to.
Kailee Reese Samuels is probably one of most gifted writers I’ve read in recent years. She paints tapestries with words. She creates worlds that possess both darkness and light. Her characters hold you firm in either love or hate, there’s no such thing as disinterest in her writing.
This is an amazing piece of literature. When I realized what was actually happening in this story, I got teary eyed, and trust me, I’m a tough nut to flipping crack. I know I’m involved in a story when I say things aloud, and I made audible statements many times in this reading. My family would ask me what the heck I was reading when they would hear me speak while reading.
Are you looking for something unique? Something that will pull all your emotions to the surface? Well, look no further. You just found it. Highly recommended.
If there was ever a book that lived up to its title it would definitely be Madness. This crazy, wild ride of a retelling was a naughty and quite maddening read. I felt a bit as though I had tumbled down the rabbit’s hole right alongside Ellison and enjoyed the unexpected journey she took me on. The vivid imagery and incredible creatures drew me right into Ellison’s story as they held me captive and always eager to know more. I was a definite fan of the Merrymen and hope that this is not the last time I’ve seen them. Though this was my first read from this author I’m ‘sovery’ thrilled to have gotten a bit lost in Madness and will be keeping my fingers crossed for so much more.
I have to say Madness is by far the most dark and insanely twisted retelling of the sinister fairy tales collection so far. At least in my opinion.
This book is as its titled… Pure delicious, mind blowing Madness! This take or retelling of Alice in Wonderland will leave you simultaneously blown away as wondering exactly WTF did I just read?!?!
This is Ellison’s story. She is nothing short of insane. She’s the driver of the crazy train y’all. She started off the book with her insanity and I was like “oh dang, well we going right to crazy town on the first page, okay, okay.”
Now IRL Alice and Wonderland isn’t even a fairytale I care for, But I can definitely get on board with this kinda Wonderland! I mean this is a RH (reverse harem) so it’s a sensual and hot and dirty wonderland. Heck’s yes!
I don’t want to give any spoilers away so I will just say… Get ready!! Prepare to fall down a devious, dark and twisted rabbit hole of madness and mayhem. There was so much going on and it was crazy, and chaotic. It was wild and really dark. It will have everyone going just a little mad at least for a minute. I think this is definitely one of those books I could go back and read again and probably catch something I might have missed out on the first time, because there are so many characters and so much happening at one time. I am just a fan of dark and twisted, so this is right up my alley. This sinister fairy tales collection is amazing and this is a fantastic part of it. Definitely recommend for those who love twisted tales. If RH or blood and gore offends you, then this is most definitely NOT the book for you. But if you are open minded about those things I think you will love this book!
*I voluntarily reviewed an advanced complimentary copy of this book!
My cr8zysockbookblock blog wrap up for this book!
– Totally dark and twisted retelling. Recommend for dark romance fans who also love RH!
-CRAZY RH HOTNESS!
Cliffhanger Warning-No cliffhanger!
Trigger Warning- This book does contain violence, blood, gore and is a Reverse Harem. If you are offended by these things this is Not the book for you!
I am used to some of the twisted things in Mrs. Samuels mind but this one even had me spinning. This book took me a little bit to get into but was oh so worth it when I did.
What a darkly fresh take on an old fairy tale! It starts out already a little unhinged and then takes you on a wild journey where old secrets and new truths are peeled away like the skin of an onion. Lys’s life as she knew it took a huge twist, and along the way she finds out what her life was meant to be, how easily misconceptions can change your focus, and what it’s like to have a choice. It’s dark and lusty, but at the center of it all is finding your way home. I found myself rereading parts to make sure I was following along with Lys, but what a wild trip it was!
This book is just like the title MADNESS!!! This is a first retelling of Alice in Wonderland that I have read and maybe that is where I kinda got thrown off course. I loved loved loved the parts I could grasp and dang there were some really hot, fan your face times. I will probably have to go back and read this again at my pace so maybe I catch things I missed because I have questions. The writing and the story were great and I was really into it. I could picture the scenes in my head, you have to have an imagination for this book. I know I am rambling but that is what reading one of Kailee’s books will do to you … so good!!!
Madness (Sinister Fairy Tales series) by Kailee Reese Samuels. This was a very dark, twisted and kinky spin on the the story of Alice in Wonderland. Instead of Alice the young lady was Ellison aka Lyssa. Instead of Lyssa going to Wonderland she is in the Darklands. Darklands is quite the metaphor for this place. Lyssa is a mentally sick young lady who finds herself committed to an institution for 10 years for murder. I can say the story pulled me in at the beginning and I felt like I had fell down the rabbit hole along with Lyssa. Her mind was fractured along with mine. I was taken on a twisted and kinky psychological trip were I thought I was on a serious hit of LSD. I couldn’t tell what was real and what her mind had conjured up. I do know the men were hot and the sex was even hotter. Quite the psychedelic trip. Pay attention! This was my first time reading this author. I didn’t know what to think about this story but by the time I got to the end not only was my mind psychologically blown but I was extremely happy at how this trip was concluded. Looking forward to reading more stories from this author. 4 stars for me.
