Trigger Warning: graphic physical abuse
Tyson and Eli grew up together along with Tysons brother. They were both secretly in love with each other but never shared their feelings. When Ty goes away to college and just never comes back, not even when his parents died, everyone just assumed he left his old life behind and was a jerk. So when Eli who is now a cop and Tysons brother get a call from the hospital that they have Tyson who had been beaten nearly to death by his partner it’s a shock but they make it their mission to keep him safe. Especually Eli who offers his house using the excuse that he’s safer with a cop.
I loved this book. It’s a quick read. About 4 hours but felt complete. The plot is interesting and well written. It’s pretty angsty. It keeps the reader in constant suspense so it’s a definite page turner you will want to read all at once. I loved the 2 MCs. They were well developed and I thought they made a good pair. They had great chemistry. The love does come quick but with their given history is doesn’t feel like instalove. It covers one of my favorite trope hurt/confort and doesn’t disappoint. It’s sweet and very sexy and has all the feels in between (happy, sad, angry, nervous) and of course a swoony HEA. I would definitely recommend this book.
Even though the last years have been horrific for Ty, he gets away from but the road to recovery is not easy even when he is in the love of family and friends. What he has been through needs understanding and patience and Eli is afraid he doesn’t fully have what he needs.
This love story is epic as it’s been in the making for a while between these men who have been friends most of their lives.
I love the chemistry and the bond that gets reconnected but also grows and challenges our couple.
Simple and beautiful! Has some “scary” moments but those are expected.
There is nothing wrong with this story, but there is also nothing new about it either. I felt like I had read a similar story a couple of times before. Nevertheless, it is well written and Tyson (Ty) and Eli are both likeable main characters who fit well together.
TRUE FRIENDS AND LOVERS ARE PRICELESS
This story made me feel wiped out and anxious. I know lots of abused people and to read just some of the things that Ty went through made my heart ache. The fact that he had a support system, that he didn’t think he did, made things much easier for him. I was elated that Elliot, Eli, was still there for him after ten years of everyone wondering what had happened to him. It made me feel good to know that his friends were there to help him overcome most of his insecurities. When he stood up to Maxwell, my heart cheered. The stories make me wonder why most people, no matter what they fear, won’t say how they feel about someone until it’s almost too late.
Tyson has been in an abusive relationship for ten years. This last time his boyfriend almost killed him, so he ran home to Harlan to his family and friends. Elliot is a detective in Harlan and was Tyson’s best friend who he hasn’t seen in ten year. When he see Tyson again he can tell he was abused. Will he be able to help Tyson and can they find happiness together? I loved this story and the characters were interesting.
Tyson’s amazingly strong and very broken. He’s endured a decade of abuse and has to find his way past his demons back to himself. Elliot is stoic and has trouble communicating, but he loves Ty deeply. He’s not perfect, he screws up but he’s so afraid of losing Ty. There are a few heart-racing moments as well as plenty of spicy ones. Terrific ending.
Audiobook: The narrator did a decent job although he seemed to be rushed and jumped from one scene to another without pausing so at times I didn’t know that there was a change. While I quickly caught on it was a bit distracting. The editing needed work as there were LOTS of times where there were repeats of words, phrases, sentences or even whole paragraphs. It was disappointing that the quality wasn’t what I expected and I think the author deserved better.
one of the most insidious things about domestic abuse is the guilt and pain that are heaped on the victims
– by the abuser – this is your fault, see what you made me do,
– by the guilty abused – I made him do this, this is my fault, it is what I deserve for not getting away
– by others who know them – I have known that man all his life. no way is he an abuser. the bitch must have had it coming.
poignantly well drawn story of m/m domestic abuse.
and of the courage it took the abused to face it.
and of the courage it took for friends and family to help him move on
and of the courage it took to recognize deal with, and try to move on or past the various collateral damage.
powerful and painful.
