Now she’s back in his life, and as a prospect for the Dark Knights motorcycle club, Jed promises to keep an eye on the sassy, sexy single mother who has never stopped lighting his fantasies on fire.
Jed and Josie’s combustible connection is stronger than ever. Having Josie and her son in his life brings out all of Jed’s protective instincts-and visions of a future he never imagined having. 4.5 stars–MAD ABOUT MOON is the fifth instalment in Melissa Foster’s contemporary, adult THE WHISKEYS erotic, romance series focusing on the Whiskey family and friends of Peaceful Harbor. This is twenty-eight year old, bartender/mechanic Jed Moon, and twenty-four year old, single mother Josie Beckley’s story line. MAD ABOUT MOON can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalment is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion involving our story line heroine. The Whiskeys series is a spin off from the author’s Bradens of Peaceful Harbor. There is a slight MC biker theme throughout the series as the Whiskeys are part of the local Dark Knights MC, and Jed Moon is their latest prospect. Josie is Sarah (Wicked Whiskey Love) and Scott Beckley’s younger sister.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Josie and Jed) MAD ABOUT MOON follows the rekindling relationship and romance between twenty-eight year old, bartender/mechanic Jed Moon, and twenty-four year old, single mother Josie Beckley. Approximately six years earlier, Jed Moon met seventeen year old Josie Beckley, and it was instant love for our story line hero. A one-night stand ended when Jed discovered our heroine’s age, and in the ensuing years neither one forgot about that night. Fast forward to present day wherein Josie, a now widowed mother of one, struggles to reacquaint herself with the family she believes left her behind. What ensues is the rebuilding friendship and growing love between Josie and Moon, and the potential fall-out as Josie continues to struggle with what was, and what may be.
Both Jed and Josie’s pasts, and their histories are dark and heart breaking. At thirteen years of age, Josie found herself alone with an abusive father when her brother and sister ran without looking back. Jed Moon struggled to keep his family together but when his father died, his alcoholic mother destroyed what as left of his heart and his love.
The relationship between Josie and Jed is one of second chances; a rekindling friendship that grows into something more. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Josie’s son Hail: Dr. Wayne ‘Bones’ Whiskey, and Jed’s sister Sarah, and her children Bradley and Lila (Wicked Whiskey Love #4): Josie and Sarah’s brother Scott Beckley; Special Forces Veteran Bullet Whiskey and Finlay Wilson (Driving Whiskey Wild #3), biker/mechanic Bear Whiskey and his wife (Jed’s sister) Crystal (Truly, Madly, Whiskey 2); Bones’, Bullet & Bear’s sister Dixie as well as their parents Biggs and Wren (Red) Whiskey; Truman & Gemma (Tru Blue #1) ; Truman’s brothers and sister, Quincy, Lincoln and Kennedy; Ice Cream shop owner Penny Wilson; several members of the Dark Knights MC including Desmond ‘Diesel’ Black, Crow Burke, Charlie ‘Court’ Sharpe, Tomas ‘Tex’ Sharpe, as well as Dr. Jon Butterscotch; as well as the introduction of Crystal and Jed’s mother Pamela Moon.
The world building continues to focus on the friendships, family and support for the people of Peaceful Harbor. The conflict is limited, oft times limited to situations from the past: there is rarely a struggle with the relationship development.
MAD ABOUT MOON is a story of family and love; of friendship and support; of second chances and more. The premise is captivating and entertaining; the characters are colorful and energetic-Melissa’s story line children are delightful and adorable; the romance is seductive and intense. MAD ABOUT MOON is a wonderful read for the romantic in all of us.
Loved it ! Couldn’t put it down once I’d started it and I’d finished it in before I knew it. Can’t wait to read the next one.
The Whiskeys are BACK! And boy oh boy did I miss them!! Mad About Moon is Josie and Jed’s story—a second-chance romance for two people who fell into something fantastic six years ago, but weren’t quite ready for each other.
But now they are! Jed and Josie never thought they’d see each other again after that fateful, wonderful, “burned into memory” night. Both have been through hell and back. Jed’s a Prospect for the Dark Knights MC. He’s healthy and building a future for himself. Josie lost her family, her husband and her home—but she’s alive, starting to get life back together and her son, Hail, is loved, safe and happy.
And then Fate intervenes. Josie’s slowly reconnecting with her siblings—Sarah and Scott. And since Sarah and Scott are considered Whiskey and Dark Knights family, by extension Josie and Hail are too. With family comes protection—and Jed’s just the man for that job. And hopefully more.
When Josie and Jed reconnect, the spark immediately fly. Their connection from years ago is still as strong as ever. And Jed’s gentle, slow, sexy mannerisms help Josie overcome her fears relating to the reconnection with Sarah and Scott and her guilt over finding love again after her husband died.
I loved the romance between Jed and Josie. It was slow, sexy, swoony, and perfect for them. They both blossomed in their self-confidence and surety in their future plans. The support and love for each other was obvious and the support and love and friendship from the Whiskeys and the rest of the Dark Knights was fantastic too. It never felt contrived or really over the top. It felt real. It felt like family. And I cannot wait for more!
As always with the Whiskeys, the latest book packs an emotional punch. There isn’t a lot of drama between Moon and Josie, which I appreciate in a romance, but their lives have not been easy and they have to face a lot from their pasts.
Josie was able to escape her abusive parents and find a happy life but seeing her siblings again means that she needs to decide if she’s willing to address old wounds. Even here it is handled with depth but not melodrama – the past comes calling but it doesn’t run their lives. I appreciate that a lot as Josie comes to terms with what she thought she knew about her past.
Jed has managed to come to terms with his own past and the things that he’s done, thanks to his friends, family, and the Dark Knights. And now that he’s got a chance to reconnect with Josie and make a better life for himself, he stumbles over a couple of kids that are pretty much him as a teen. Being able to help others is such a huge part of who Moon is and Foster works that in so perfectly here, finding a way for him to have a purpose he can embrace.
Foster knows how to deliver depth and dimension to her characters, their lives, and how they connect with, love, & support those around them – you truly feel the family that they’ve created, regardless of blood, and it makes you want to be a part of their community. Packed with humor, heat, and complex relationships, Mad About Moon once again allows readers to fall into a story just brimming with emotion.
**Review given honestly and freely after receipt of a reader copy. This opinion is completely my own and was not influenced in any way.**
THE BOOK JUNKIE READS . . . IS TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH MOON. . .
Moon and Jo-Jo get that second chance and things are sometimes so much better the second time around.
This was my first Whiskey book. I loved Jed & Josie’s second chance romance. They have firey chemistry. Jed has always remembered his Little Red. And Josie has always remembered him. They both had their detours but now is their time. Filled with love, friends, family, reunions, children, family by choice and by blood. Loved this sweet, steamy love story. I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I’m MAD ABOUT MOON!!! There is just something about a man that will put everything on hold to help a woman and her child without expecting anything in return. Jed Moon knew Josie years ago but lost touch with her after their brief time together. Fast forward several years and Josie is now living in a homeless shelter with her young son after the death of her husband.
Josie and each of her siblings were abused as children, Josie being the youngest was spared the worst of it because the older ones got it the most but after they each left her parents turned on her and that’s when she ran away. Josie is starting to reconnect with her siblings which we have met in earlier books but she is hesitant because it’s been so many years since she has seen them. This hurt my heart as well as warmed it. It’s hard to describe the feelings a person has after reconnecting with siblings they haven’t seen in years but believe me, while you’re hesitant you are hopeful.
This story is about love and forgiveness and second chances and perfect endings. Mad About Moon will have you holding out hope that the universe will get things right and give back what was lost. This story had a twist to it that I had in the back of my mind before it was even hinted at, I was wondering….is she going to go there? and she did! LOL
As with other books by Melissa Foster this is easy to recommend especially if you enjoy the second-chance-at-love trope. Each book in the series can be read as a standalone but I always recommend starting from the beginning because once you meet one of the Whiskeys you’ll want to meet them all. Happy Reading!!!
**I have voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book for my Blog, Nadine’s Obsessed with Books**
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
Josie has it rock bottom. After her husband died and she lost everything, she is trying to make the best of things for her and her young son living in a shelter. She wants to reunite with her siblings but she is scared they hate her. All she needs to do is find a job, move out of the shelter and make a mends and life would be so much better. When she finally gets the nerve to visit her sister, she is surprised to see Moon there. A man she meet years ago and has never forgotten.
Jed “Moon” can’t believe his eyes, his Jojo is here. Or at least he thinks it’s Jojo. He has to find out and find out where she has been all these years. He wants to make sure she is OK, protect her if someone is after her and her son. And he wants her back in his life.
Josie and Moon still has the sparks and chemistry they has all those years ago when they spent the night together and the sizzle doesn’t seem to be dying down any. When Moon learns Josie lost her husband he wants to be there for her and help her. He gets her as job interview with a friend, introduces her to the Whiskeys and makes sure she has time to spend with her brother and sister. As Josie, Hail and Moon spend more and more time together, their love grows and grows.
Can Moon let Josie be what she needs and still not lose who she is? Will Josie accept all Moon can offer her and Hail? Will Hail accept Moon into his life?
I love the Whiskey family and those close to them. Moon, Josie and Hail fit right in and have all they need. If you haven’t read anything by Melissa Foster, start with this series, each book is about a different couple and worth reading them all. And Foster is worth reading any of her books. I hope you give this one a chance and love it as much as I have.
**Wicked Reads Review Team**
Mad About Moon by Melissa Foster is book 5 in The Whiskeys Series. This is the story of Josie Beckley and Jed Moon. To fully understand Josie and her story it does help to have read the previous book I thought but if you wish you can make this a standalone if that is what you wish to do.
Jed hasn’t been an angel but he is now getting his life together and is a new recruit for Dark Knights motorcycle club but there has always something missing. Joise grew up with abusive parents and through time lost connection with her siblings. Josie did go on to have a son and marry but her husband his died leaving her homeless other than a women’s shelter. When her siblings try to reconnect with her she is slow to take that offer but for her son and to move forward she goes forward to reconnect. This brings Jed back into her life. Once upon a time they had a connection but were pulled apart. When Jed spots Joise he knows that he needs her.
I am a big fan of Ms. Foster’s writing so this was a must read for me. Loved it!!
Josie Beckley has had a lot of sadness in her life but she has a spark of happiness and his name is Hail. Jed Moon knows he wants to help. This is one of those stories where you can catch up on characters from previous books. It’s also an incentive, for me at least, to go back and read their stories again.
With Jed and Josie, the author creates an easiness they have around each other. They seem to relax and are able to open up and let us know what their pasts were like. You’ll see Josie opening her heart and when you see her open it fully it’s a moment where having a tissue handy will be a good thing. Jed may seem sweet when we first meet him but when the match is lit watch out for the heat. You can assume that Josie is the accelerant – they burn very well as the heat continues to build.
One thing that keeps me going back to this series is that each couple’s story is unique. You will not feel as if you read anything that occurred in previous books. It could be considered a standalone but if you start here than you will learn more about the secondary characters that may give you the craving to go back to find out what you’ve missed. It will be Hail that will steal your heart – can see him being a lady -killer when he grows up. The ending just came too soon, since I enjoyed getting to know the Whiskeys and their extended families, but it’s one that will leave you with a smile on your face – give me more!
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

And she’s done it again…
I don’t know how she does it, but with each book it’s harder and harder to pick a ‘favorite’ amongst the Whiskey clan and their extended and quite eclectic family. The goodness, even when things aren’t so good, overfloweth and only makes me want MORE.
Jed and Josie. These two I adored. Jed is, and has always been, a good man. He may have done sketchy things, but they were for good reasons and I loved that he owned everything he was and strived to be better every day. The man’s heart is huge and when you add in all that charisma? Well, the man is simply lethal. Josie. I’ll admit to have some mixed feelings towards her going in to this book, but it didn’t take long before I ended up loving her. She’s sweet, sassy and has a golden heart, and watching as she took the steps to reconnect with her siblings and open herself up to new friendship and a huge, and nosey, family was a lot of fun.
The journey to Jed and Josie’s HEA was all kinds of sweet, smexy and even ovary exploding goodness. The connection between Jed and Josie jumped off the page from the moment they reconnected and I loved watching as they got to know each other again. Their bantering was fun, their heart to hearts made mine melt and the smexy was HAWT. Hail, Josie’s little boy, definitely helped push things along and had me smiling and laughing the entire time. There is a little roadblock in their road, something I guessed at early on, but one that was handled well and I love how everything turned out for them in the end.
I swear, with each book in this series I fall more and more in love with the Whiskey clan, the Dark Knights and all of the people they call their own, which makes it really hard to pick a favorite amongst all of these unique men and women, but that just goes to show what an amazing writer the author is and why I’m such a #fangirl. But as far as new characters, Diesel has definitely peaked my interest and I’m crossing my toes that he’ll be around more and then there is Dixie. I’ve loved this woman since first meeting her and thought I had an idea of which of the men would win her heart, but now I’m not so sure ~ the options have multiplied ~ so, I’m thrilled that her book is next and cannot wait to see who her forever is!

*4.5-5 Stars*
Loved this book. There was a lot more depth to Josie and Jed than I was expecting, and I particularly loved Jed and the way he was with both Josie and Hail. There was a huge sense of support in this book, and I just really loved the way everyone rallied together and was there for each other.
This is a world I love coming back to, the Whiskey’s is a series that I always enjoy. I liked all the new things that Josie brought to the table, and the ideas she had, and Hail was a real little cutie as well.
Really enjoyed this one and would recommend.
Ok read. A bit tamer then the others. Moon wasn’t as “alpha male ” as the others. Enjoyed reading about the Whiskey clan. Can’t wait to read about Quincy. Love the series.
Mad About Moon kept me up all night because I couldn’t put it down. It’s everything and more and I fell for Jed so hard. He is so much more than sexy – patient, kind, thoughtful and he is so amazing with kids. The way he is with Hail makes me want to give him babies for years to come!!! Josie has been knocked down, but she is strong and resilient and I’m proud of what a fighter she is. I love all the characters in this series and I adore the way they all rallied around Josie, Jed and Hail. You need to read this book for the jacket, the rocks, the gingerbread and the truck alone. I am absolutely head over heals Mad About Moon!!!
Tracey, Life Reads With Friends
You know you really like a book when you find yourself getting excited over something one of the characters is doing or proposing…I found myself doing just that when Moon proposed his mentoring idea. That tells me I’m invested! Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
3.5-stars
I thought this book was ok. I felt that Jed’s story would have been better. Josie was a down on her luck widow. There was no story to them. I felt it was very predictable and slow at times.
The angst in the story I felt was flat. Josie had a great life with her husband, who showed her love and affection. I didn’t understand why she was angry with her older sister for “having a perfect life” in the previous book.
Other than that, it was great to read more about the other couples and learn more about their lives. Glad I read it to learn more about the Whiskeys, but I think this is a one read for me.
Mad About Moon
By: Melissa Foster
Narrated by: Devra Woodward, Jacob Morgan
Series: The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor, Book 5
There is something about this series that just resonates comfort and home. The Whiskey’s are good people, and just the thought of this family brings that warm feeling to my heart. With each book, I find that Melissa Foster makes me fall in love with yet another Whiskey and this one is no exception. Jed is so easy to love! He has had a hard past, but now with the guidance of the Dark Knights, he knows there is more to life and that his efforts can be used for good. And bumping into the one woman that he compares all others to years after they met for one night just makes it all the better. Josie has been hiding from her family for years. Running from an abusive home, thought to be abandoned by her siblings, she marries her first love. Now she is a widow with a child, and has the chance to build a life with the one man she could never forget. But will she take it? What a story! I love second chance love, but this has so much more. It’s second chances with family, a building of trust and love and that enveloping feeling of warmth the Whiskey family brings. This book is just one of those that stays with you and keeps you warm like a blanket.
Devra Woodward and Jacob Morgan are an amazing team and bring this story to life. Josie is very emotional, yet controlled and Woodward finds that balance. Morgan exudes goodness and love with Moon, and together these two give a performance that is a wonderful listen.
