My fault as I expected something and got silliness.
I’m sorry but how has this gotten so many high reviews.
I did finish this but I put it down a couple of times due to ridiculous behaviour of both main characters.
For adults in their mid thirties they act like teenagers most of the time.
A couple of major idiot behaviour issues made me roll my eyes and the years between them just felt wrong. If it had been seven years instead of SEVENTEEN I probably would have rated it higher.
Matt came across as a coward. Cannot believe he was a marine.
He supposedly has loved only Shay for all those years but wasn’t celibate or tried to find or see her. Surely serving in Iraq would have strengthened his belief in himself.
Two years Shay had been running her bakery in a small town and he had never spoken to her, then he runs away after finding out she has an ex fiancé, I state again, 17 YEARS gap.
Shay is a doormat to a conniving mother, until all this blows up and she finally finds her backbone. Then when Matt walks away and refuses to talk to her, she accepts the blame, so back to being a doormat.
Just didn’t really care after this point but as there were only a few chapters left I finished it.
New author for me and grabbed as a free read.
Strangely enough this is the second book with a dog named bubbles in it I have read this month.
If I wanted to read about nipples being sucked as well as all the other sex parts, I would buy porn. So sad that such good storytelling has to go there.
This is book 1 in a series and I’ve read several of the others. I think I read this before, but it seems without review. I really liked it, again. It did drag a small amount. I was rooting for the characters to figure things out. I don’t think the timeline needed to be as long as it was. Too many years with nothing in them. 10 years would have measured more accurately. I like the town and his family.
Wonderful start to a new series. Love the characters.
This was my first Theresa Paolo book – and it won’t be my last.
Small town fun mixed with second chance romance? I’m in.
Add in great characters with intriguing families and I’m looking forward to more!
I enjoyed this book from start to end. sexy without too steamy so didnt have to skip pages. a realistic story. you could feel for the characters love and hate. also a great ending.
Spoiler Alert. I enjoyed this sweet love story, but it wasn’t what I expected. The synopsis suggested a romance suspense type story that wasn’t what I was at all. Shay is stubborn to the point of being stupid. After two break ins, there is no way she wouldn’t lock the door. And what business doesn’t lock the front door when they are closed? Also, she was concerned it was related to her past from New York. When we find out what she ran from, it becomes obvious that it would not lead to a break into her bakery to ransack and not steal any money. So, I was expecting another secret to come out but it never did. The reason for the “break ins” was funny though. We never found out if Shay told her father what her mother did. I think this book needed an epilogue but I understand that’s tricky when it’s a series. I’m undecided if I will read the next book. The sex scenes in this book are lacking.
A second chance romance that will make you swoon. I loved listening to this books and the obstacles that kept getting in the way of these two. A sweet romance to enjoy.
This is a story about a baker and the sheriff. They were two young lovers separated by a manipulative mother only to reunite 17 years later to repeat the same process all over again. Enjoyable.
Matt is the sheriff Red Maple Falls where he grew up. He is the oldest of six siblings. Shay would spend her summers there while growing up, but she lived in NYC. After 17 years ,Shay returned and made her dream come true, by opening the Sweet Dreams Bakery. Matt is worried that Shay is in danger after her bakery is broken into and trashed. Had trouble followed her from New York? Matt is determined to protect her. But Shay refuses to talk about her past in New York. Both Matt and Shay are still attracted to each other. they try to fight their feelings they still have after all these years. Will they get their second chance HEA? The other characters and grandparents added variety to the story.
Krista Nicely is a good narrator. Her performance was entertaining and enjoyable to listen to. AudiobookObsessionReviewer
Great Story & Audible Listen MattShay! Sweet Romance!
Mad About Matt
A Red Maple Falls Novel, Book 1
By: Theresa Paolo
Narrated by: Krista Nicely
This is a sweet second chance romance set in a small town. This is my first book by Theresa Paolo and it will not be my last. I enjoyed her writing style and the storylines and characters she created, which I found to be realistic and relatable. The characters were complex and well developed and I adored the two leads, Matt Hayes and Shay Michaels . Two people from different worlds met when they were younger and fell in love. Matt grew up in Red Maple Falls, a small town in New Hampshire, Shay used to spend her summers there when she fell in love with Matt, but it was not meant to be she returned back home to NYC and they did not keep in touch. Seventeen years later Shay flees her city life returns to the place she fell in love with when she was younger, Red Maple Falls, and opens a bakery, something she dreamed of doing. Matt is now the local sheriff and when her store gets broken into he responds and they meet again. This story is well plotted, there is never a dull moment, there is drama, a bit of angst, mystery, plenty of emotions all leading to a wonderful second chance romance. Theresa Paolo, thank you for this great story and emotional rollercoaster ride. I am looking forward to checking out more of your work.
I listened to the Audible edition, Krista Nicely does a great job narrating and performing the voices for all the characters. She brings these characters and their story to life from the pages to your ears. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen

I found it to be extremely slow, I did like that it wasn’t in the first person, but very slow building
This is the first time I have listened to Krista Nicely and I settled in very quickly. Her voice brought the characters and story to life.
This is a light and enjoyable listen. The twists are intriguing. I enjoyed watching the characters and their relationships and how they built and changed over time Although there is one character I could happily slap! You’ll have to listen to see who that is.
This was the first narration I’ve listened to by Krista Nicely. While I would probably not purposefully choose another narration by her, it was still a very good performance, I just personally did not feel the same connection (?!?! not sure if that would be the right word or sentiment) as I do to other narrators.
This is a small-town second chance story with a strong tug between romance and suspense. Shay is back in her hometown after years of being away and has opened a bakery. Matt is the local sheriff and more concerned for Shay’s safety than Shay seems to be, but it’s possible that problems from New York have followed Shay to Red Maple Falls. Overall there was a great storyline and the characters were both really strong and had great chemistry. There were a few times where there was some sexual talk that didn’t quite fit in at the time, and I felt that the escalation of crimes was at a sociopath warp speed that lead into a very rushed ending.

Second Chances
Shay use to spend summers in Red Maple Falls with her grandparents and fell in love with Matt, but then she left and didn’t come back. Now she is and owns a bakery. Matt only left to go in the Marines after his heart was broken. Now he is sheriff. But can they find their way back to each other.
5 Star review of Mad About Matt (A Red Maple Falls #1) by Theresa Paola
Audio Review:
Both author Theresa Paola and narrator Krista Nicely are new to me.
I love stories about small towns and Red Maple Falls sounds like a great place to live. Shay Michaels left Red Maple Falls and her first love Matt Hayes, seventeen years ago with no plans to return. That is until she returns to town to open Sweet Dreams Bakery.
Matt, well aware that she has returned to town is now the local sheriff and has been keeping an eye on her and the bakery.
Neither Shay or Matt have ever forgotten the love they shared as teenagers. However if they are to take advantage of this second chance, then both will have to make peace with the past. The question is can they forgive the hurts of the past?
I loved the story that Ms. Paola wove, the characters were well developed and I fell hard and fast for Matt. His overwhelming instinct to protect Shay was heartwarming.
I didn’t really connect with the narrator, but that is just me, however the story was so good that I pushed through.
I loved Matt’s family and cannot wait to read or listen to more from this author.
Mad About Matt
A Red Maple Falls Novel, Book 1
By: Theresa Paolo
Narrated by: Krista Nicely
Mad About Matt is a sweet, second chance romance. Shay comes to Red Maple Falls after being away for 17 years. She finds her old boyfriend the sheriff of town, and still the flame for him burns bright. But should she act on it? Matt keeps an eye on her from afar. When Shay’s bakery is broken into, Matt comes in as the town law enforcement to check things out. From there, we get to see if their relationship will blossom. Will secrets kept cause keep them apart? Who is breaking into the bakery? Theresa Paolo weaves her story with love, frustration, hope and even a little suspense. We get to know a little about the town, meet Matt’s brothers and begin to feel as part of the community. A fun story to listen to and enjoy.
This is my first narration by Krista Nicely and I enjoyed her performance. She has a good pace, and I found her voices easy to distinguish. I look forward to the next in this series and her continued portrayal of the people in Red Maple Falls.

Loved this story so much! The love between Matt and Shay was the from the start and you could tell they were just meant to be. I was hooked to see what happened to them from the beginning. When someone broke into Shay’s store, the way that Matt reacted just warmed my heart. Even though they weren’t together for over 17 years, the thought that something happened to Shay was just unimaginable to him. I loved the slow burn and then the dramatic twist. I’m so in love this these characters and this town. I’m onto book 2!
I enjoyed reading this book!
Mad About Matt ( A Red Maple Falls Novel, #1) by Theresa Paolo. This is the story of Matt Hayes & Shay Michaels who fell in love one summer years ago. They thought they were going to be together forever but Shay trusted her mom and moved back home to the big city and thought she had lost Matt forever. Matt was devastated and never got over Shay. He became the local Sheriff and Shay moved back to Red Maple Falls years later. Matt comes from a large family and Shay was still friends with a couple of his sisters. Matt avoided Shay as much as possible until an alarm went off in her bakery, the Sweet Dreams Bakery, Shay’s baby. Sparks were still there and it wasn’t long until they were right back in a relationship. Can they both learn to trust each other again or will Shay let her crazy Mom control her again and will Matt let his insecurities about not being good enough for Shay cloud his emotions. This is a super sweet book and a quick read. I can’t wait to read the rest of the Series!
