Uneven But Good Collection
What can I say? I am a fan of multi-author historical romance collections. Sometimes they give you a chance to explore authors who are new to you or at least stories you’re not familiar with. This book had a bit of both for me. There are eight different books in this collection by eight different authors. They range in length from fairly short novellas to longer versions of that short form. There are no novels in this collection, though. As is typical in these kinds of collections, the quality is variable between the stories as is the proper application of grammar, punctuation, and usage. I particularly enjoyed the first, fourth, and last two stories. I didn’t like the third story at all as the hero seemed to be a real jerk right from the get-go, a little too worldly and cavalier for my taste, and I never like a jerk-y hero. We’ve got a pirate duke and a story with a little magical element. There’s one heroine who may be bad at archery but is self-taught in medicine. All in all, a decent collection.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Eight count them eight, action packed, emotionally thrilling and highly entertaining romantic adventure filled with engaging charters, witty banter, heart racing twists and undeniable passion. Was a great set of heartwarming and exciting stories. Really enjoyed this box set of sexy dukes.
A great collection of stories that will delight you.

There is something very satisfying when you read the last page of a book and you smile and think happy thoughts. I do this when the book is a very rewarding read, but when it is a box set it is much more than a smile. If you are like me and find relief from the troubles that ail you, then please read this collection of stories. Reading about times past can be an escape from the present and a good story is much closer at hand than alcohol and drugs. You can be assured that this is a great collection of stories that will delight you.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This was a great collection of 4 and 5 star stories.
The Duke Who Loved Her by Aileen Fish: 5 stars. Betrayal, forgiveness, trust, hope and love. The characters were wonderful, and the plot was both interesting and plausible. I appreciated the lack of wishy-washy angst too.
Searching for My Rogue by Dawn Brower: 4 stars. This previously released time travel adventure was enjoyable the second time around too. I think Alys was a little too stubborn for the sake of being obstinate, but aside from that it was a great tale.
Her Muse, His Grace by Jane Charles: 4 stars. I would have given this 5 stars had it not been for Bianca’s annoying determination to be miserable and alone. Ghosts, trust, forgiveness, social class issues, family betrayals, obligations, and love were some of the underlying themes.
Josephine by Amanda Mariel: 5 stars. Josephine was strong, smart, capable, clever, and kindness personified. This time the angsty ways belonged to the male, but thankfully Devon figured things out rather quickly. Some of the underlying themes were mental health, shame, guilt, obligations, sexism, friendship, loyalty, hope, and love.
The Pirate’s Duchess by Katherine Bone: 4.5 stars. This was a fast-paced tale featuring betrayal, deception, sacrifice, courage, sorrow, loss, revenge, trust, forgiveness, hope, and love. I thought Underwood’s motives were strange/unlikely since he was an aristocrat too, but aside from that it was a great story.
My Duke’s Seduction by Tammy Andresen: 5 stars. Such a wonderful, sweet, happy story! Sacrifice, charity, friendship, familal bonds, sorrow, hope, and love were some of the underlying themes, though these hardly do justice to this tale featuring strong and mostly capable women and the yummy men who adore them.
The Duke Who Came To Town by Sophie Barnes: 5 stars. Although Joshephine’s angsty ways bordered on irritating, they were tempered by her capable and calm nature. The underlying themes of this steamy tale included sexism, abandonment, social censure, survival, independence, friendship, family, hope, and love.
Fated For The Duke by Christina McKnight: 4 stars. I would have given this 5 stars because I loved most of the characters, but the whole issue with her parents and why they had to move all the time felt really vague, as well as what happened to the grandma??? There was a terrible premonition, and then suddenly the story jumped 9 years and she was simply gone.
I received a free copy of this collection, but that did not affect my review.
An abundance of dukes.
I thoroughly enjoyed this collection of historical novellas featuring, you guessed it, dukes!
Standouts were The Duke Who Came to Town by Sophie Barnes. But all the authors are exceptional and I highly recommend.
purchased on iBooks and Amazon
Eight well written stories that I had to keep reading until I finished the set, and then I wanted to own this set so I bought it also. I recommend this set.
You can’t go wrong with a box full of Dukes! This is an absolute gem of a collection and a must have for all those who love Regency Romances! All the stories in this boxset are beautifully written by a group of very talented authors. I am familiar with one of the author’s work, but most are new to me.
The storylines and plots were all artfully crafted with well defined characters and kept me hooked until I finished. I had to pace myself as I wanted to read all in one sitting! Plenty of drama, intrigue, and plot twists to keep you hooked till the end! You do not want to miss this outstanding collection!

In The Duke Who Loved Her, Hart was forced to abandon Lady Marjorie and she wouldn’t forgive him. But she needs his help now to find her missing fortune hunter fiance. I thought she was too quick to cast Hart aside for a man she didn’t love. Hart’s brother didn’t care how his actions affected Hart, so he should have told Marjorie the truth.
In Searching for My Rogue, I like time travel romances because you get to see how a modern person would deal with living in the past and in reverse how someone from back in time would react to the changes in the world today. Alys was angry, fighting against being stuck in the Regency era and having to follow James’ commands. I love that she was well versed in self-defense and how she stood up to the leech carrying doctor.
In Her Muse, His Grace I can understand why Mark would want to know more about his potential spouse, so he went undercover as a dance teacher to meet some young ladies and see how they are when they aren’t putting on an act to win him over. The bickering and insults with the inflated ego girls he was teaching was funny. Of course, the one he really wanted was not originally in contention for his hand: his piano accompanist Bianca. Bianca has resolved to never marry because of her family’s secret past. I loved that he was teaching her violin and they were composing music together
Josephine Watkins first meets Devon Mowbray, Duke of Constantan, when she bumps into him looking at the family portraits in the abbey where her friend Adeline is getting married. The next day she accidentally shoots him with a bow and arrow while turkey hunting with her friends and feels compelled to treat him for his injuries and make sure he doesn’t succumb to fevers and infections from the wound that will kill him. There is an immediate attraction, but he is afraid that he and his children may inherit the mental illness that affects his mother and has decided not to marry. It takes Devon almost dying and Josie saving his life and befriending his mother for him to see a future with her.
My Duke’s Seduction was a nice Regency romance with plenty of suspense and humor. Tricia wasn’t going to get married. She was going to be a spinster and help her sister with her orphanage. Ryker didn’t spend much time in society and planned to marry for practical reasons. Then he saved Tricia from attackers at the docks while she was looking for her cousin. It was one madcap adventure after another with her while he lost his heart.
The Duke who came to Town was a short Regency novella between a high handed Duke and a poor relation of his friend the Earl of Priorsbridge. Devon is tasked with making sure Josephine and her sisters are taken care of, but she wants to be independent. They have passionate rows and he considers making her his mistress even though I’m sure the Earl would not want him to treat his cousin like that. I like that she worked as an accountant, since I am one too, and was able to find the evidence that the hotel manager Devon hired was skimming and causing the decline in booking.
This is a wonderful collection of regency romances. There is humor, intrigue, pirates, mystery, adventure and romance in these stories. I enjoyed each one. Great way to spend the weekend. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Talented writers.
Amanda Mariel has again joined forces with other talented writers and now has given readers a beautiful collection to enjoy. I received the arc on Booksprout and it was for Ms. Mariel so will center on her addition to the collection, but the other authors are truly wonderful too.
Josephine by Amanda Mariel was such an enjoyable read funny and dangerous at times it had a wonderful group of characters. Devon thinks he can hid a secret from Josephine well he is very mistaken. Josephine is part of the Lady Archer’s Creed series so for me this story was a re-visit to an old friend. If you want to know about the other ladies pick the collection Lady Archer’s Creed up you will be glad you did.
You will find hours of reading pleasure in this collection each story has the unique favor that each author brings to their work. So entertaining and enjoyable to read I highly recommend this collection. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I am going to start by saying that seven out of the eight authors featured are favorites of mine and so I just had to get a boxed set that included some of their best books! The only author I was not familiar with was Katherine Bone, so I will start with her contribution first.
The Pirate’s Duchess by Katherine Bone was such a great way to be introduced to a new-to-me author! There is a little of everything you could want in a Historical Romance included in this book. A pirate out for revenge who has more to his story than meets the eye, a widow about to marry again but who finds her life in danger, intrigue, a web of deceit, high-stakes drama and revelations that change the lives of all involved! This author is now on my favorites list for sure.
The Duke Who Loved Her by Aileen Fish incorporates a fairly basic story-line of honor brought into question, a lost love due to scandal, a mysterious disappearance of a fiance of questionable character, and second chances but she does it in such a skillful way that one is immediately pulled right into the intricacies of the lives of each character! I absolutely loved this book!
Searching for My Rogue by Dawn Brower is a time-travel book that I have read before and that has always been a favorite of mine! I always enjoy it when the h is actually allowed to be a strong intelligent woman and is not simply portrayed as a simpering nitwit that does not utilize her common sense. In this book, after Alys goes back in time she uses her medical knowledge and skill as a doctor but does it in such a way that the reader can see she is aware of the possible consequences of disrupting the timeline if she does not use her abilities discreetly.
Her Muse, His Grace by Jane Charles is such a wonderful story about a duke who finds himself unexpectedly inheriting a title he did not ever want and the kind musician that steals his heart but who has secrets that might put an end to this new love.
Josephine by Amanda Mariel provides us with a story involving a deep, dark secret held by the H, Devon and the unusual woman who captures his heart and makes him want her in his life. But would she still want him if she ever discovered his secret! A good book that keeps you interested from start to finish.
My Duke’s Seduction by Tammy Andresen is another favorite of mine that I thoroughly enjoyed reading again. The initial meeting of Tricia and Ryker, where he keeps her safe when he encounters her on the docks (somewhere no respectable lady should be), to all the subsequent encounters, and the secrets being kept on both sides makes this a book that will capture your attention and not let go until you reach the HEA.
The Duke Who Came to Town by Sophie Barnes is a delightful enemies-to-lovers regency style tale that was full of wit and humor where Josephine discovers that her employer is not really the curmudgeon that she had believed he was. In fact, he just might be exactly who she needs to fulfill her life and also his.
Fated for the Duke by Christina McKnight involves an unscrupulous relative, a protective duke, a touch of the paranormal, and a fated love. Very good!
This set of books is one that a reader can read over and over again without any of the stories losing their appeal!!

THE DUKE WHO LOVED HER: by Aileen Fish:
A charming second chance romance.
SEARCHING FOR MY ROGUE: by Dawn Brower:
This is a short sweet romantic story. Our heroine is Alys DeWitt of the year 2015. She is an intelligent, educated, stubborn, headstrong young woman. Alys is kind, considerate and thoughtful of others especially her younger sister Regina. She is a trained surgeon with only a few months left in her residency with a fellowship to follow. Alys loves her work but lacks that special someone in her life. Our hero is James Kendall, the Fifth Duke of Weston of the year 1815. He survived the war with France but was left with mental and emotional scars. He is a man that quickly comes to a decision and executed it. He is thoughtful of his staff and loves his younger sister Rosanna. James is also a very good friend to Dominic Rossington, the Marquess of Seabrook. James is a twin and the second son of the Third Duke of Weston. When his twin brother Edward died, he inherited the title. This was not the life he asked for. He felt the heavy responsibility of being a duke. In the present, Alys is in England for a Regency themed wedding of her sister Regina. Her Fiancé is Trenton and he is the stepbrother of the current Duke of Weston, Bradford Kendall. Trenton and Regina were getting married at the Duke’s manor in Kent. After the ceremony, Alys goes for a walk by the cliffs and sees a white bunny rabbit. The next thing she knows she is falling and becomes unconscious. She unknowingly has drifted back in time to 1815 and Fifth Duke of Kendall, James Kendall finds her at the bottom of the cliffs. He knows it is his duty to help Alys. He is struck by her strange shoes. He manages to get her to the manor. When Alys awakes she is taken off guard by her surroundings but thought she was in an old part of Bradford’s manor. When she mistakes James for Bradford, her awareness becomes quite considerable. She asks James the date and when he tells her 1815, she is stunned and cannot comprehend a thing. Alys tells James she is from the future 2015. He believes her mad. But then she proves it to him and shows him her driver license. From there things between Alys and James become quirky, a little strange, desperate and passionate. A wonderful short story. When I reached the last page, I did not want it to end.
HER MUSE, HIS GRACE: by Jane Charles:
I really liked this story and fell in love with the H/h. It was intriguing, complex, interesting and romantic. Two people so far apart in rank it seems impossible to reconcile the union. The story was touching as fear of the past kept the h from living a full and loving life. The unusual part of the story was a man who could see ghosts. It was interesting how that fit into the story so well. I love how both the H and h tried to justify their feelings for each other. I had to laugh a little when the H was literally a cave man when the h was being stubborn. When I reached the end, I did not want the story to stop there. I wanted it to go on and continue. A great story. I enjoyed it immensely.
JOSEPHINE: by Amanda Mariel:
What a wonderful short story. When I got to the last page, I felt so dissapointed. I did not want the story to end. Our dear shy and brave Josephine met her prince charming Devon, Duke of Canstantan by accident. They met at the wedding of Josephine’s dear friend and fellow archer Adeline. Days before the wedding the women with their bows and arrows were hunting turkeys. However, Josephine’s arrow pierced Devon’s shoulder. Josephine felt so bad that she vowed to sit with Devon till he recovered. Since the doctor was delayed and she had medical knowledge, she feared if she did not remove the arrow the wound would become infected. So she tended to the wound herself. During his recovery, Devon could not believe his luck that the woman he was interested in was there tending him. Josephine, despite her shyness, when it came to things she was confident in she was able to be bold and take control. Devon was intrigued by the dichotomy of her personality traits. As much as Devon wanted to continue spending time getting to know Josephine, he told himself he could not. He was harboring a secret that convinced him to never marry. Shortly after the wedding, Devon received a missive from his home requesting his immediate return. He left straight away without a by your leave to Josephine. She became saddened that the man she had become enamored of had gone away. However, she was committed to see him completely well. She arranged for Georgie and Fulton to accompany her to Devon’s estate so she could check the wound. She wanted to be sure that it would not become infected. Well, on the way they encountered a problem. When they arrived at Devon’s estate they encountered another roadblock. However, she was determined to overcome it and see Devon. Devon did not want any of them there. He was afraid they would find out his secret and ostracize him. Will Josephine be allowed to tend to Devon? Will Devon turn them away from his home? Will Devon face the reality of his feeling for Josephine? Will Josephine be able to live with Devon’s secret? This is an impressive read for a short story. I highly recommend it.
THE PIRATE’S DUCHESS: by Katherine Bone:
This is my introduction to Katherine Bone and I know it will not be the last. I was intrigued by the blurb and was not disappointed. I loved, loved, loved this novella. It ticked off every single box in the category of what a good story ought to contain. There was high drama, best friends, loyalty, revenge, deranged villains, a dashing hero, a capable but confused heroine, lots of action and adventure, danger, pirates, a duke, a duchess, an earl and a second chance at reuniting two soulmates. This is a must read. You will not be disappointed.
MY DUKE’S SEDUCTION: by Tammy Andresen:
I loved this story. It was a quick read but it did not disappoint. It was more about falling in love than the romancing bit. I adored the characters. They had wonderful honest open personalities. They were genuine. The storyline was excellent. It blended the falling in love with the plot. This is well written and each part of the story and each page segued smoothing from one to another. I highly recommend this.
FATED FOR THE DUKE: by Christina McKnight:
I loved this. The writing was as smooth as butter over hot toast. I loved the mix of the paranormal and regency type story. The characters were realistic, lovable, loyal and caring. They were a team with one objective, take care of each other, look out for one another, trust their gifts. The H/h of the story did not come on too strong. Yet they showed courage, determination and the desire to right any wrongs. The several days the H/h spent together had them off guard and trusting each other. The more deeply they got to know each other the more deeply they fell in love. The ending was surprising and I wanted the story to continue. I need to read the next book as this one ended with a semi cliffhanger. A wonderful read. I truly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
What’s better than a Duke? Why eight of them all in one bundle!! Combine Dukes with eight of the best authors in historical romance and you have hours of reading pleasure!
My Duke’s Seduction by Tammy Andresen
This story was entertaining from beginning to end, but what else would you expect from a Tammy Andresen book? What was great is that it is story that contains a character from the The Earl of Sussex in the popular Wicked Earls series. Our heroine, Lady Trisha Riley’s life had seemed somewhat ideal until her cousin went missing. Setting out on her own, she ends up in a very dangerous side of town at the docks. Of course that is no place for a lady and trouble soon confronts her but she is lucky to be rescued by none other than Ryker, Duke of Pembroke. Of course he was disguised as a commoner due to trying to find someone and comes upon Trisha. From here on out after their initial meeting, Ryker could not get his thoughts off her and what follows is a story with touches of intrigue, a little danger and of course romance. Even though a shorter story it is an enjoyable read that you will be glad you picked up. Cannot wait for more tales from the Wicked Lords of London Series!
Her Muse, His Grace by Jane Charles
A newly titled Duke, returns to London to find a bride since it is expected of him with his new title. But he does not want to be surrounded by the young debutantes or worse, their mothers! So what’s a man to do? Pretend he is a dance instructor and meet ladies that way! Brilliant! What he did not expect was to find a an enchanting lady, Bianca that is the accompanist at the dancing school. She has such a gift of her beautiful music and a smile that turns his heart. But what will happen when she finds out who he really is? But she has a few secrets too.. A delightful story that warmed my heart as Jane Charles always does!
