From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a sexy, STANDALONE second-chance romance. They called him Mack Daddy. No, seriously, his name was Mack. Short for Mackenzie. Thus, the nickname. Perfect, right? So was he: perfect. The perfect physical male specimen. At the private school where I taught, Mack Morrison was the only man around in a sea of women.Everyone wanted a piece of … the hot single father of the sweet little boy. I was riddled with jealousy, because they didn’t know that’to me’he was much more. They didn’t know about our past. He’d chosen my school for his son on purpose, because Mack and I, we had unfinished business. As my friend Lorelai so eloquently put it: ?Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls.’ And I was suffering in pain from my case.I was still intensely attracted to Mack. I tried to resist him, immersing myself further into a relationship with another man just to protect my heart. Not to mention, getting involved with a parent was strictly against school rules. But seeing Mack day in and day out was breaking me down. And soon I might be breaking all the rules.Author’s note ? Told in alternating points of view, Mack Daddy is a full-length standalone novel.

Mack and Frankie were friends and roomies in college. Mack fell for her but right as they tried to move beyond friendship, he discovers his girlfriend (soon to be ex) is pregnant. Mack has to leave Frankie to be in the life of his coming child. Frankie is heartbroken. She’s moved on. She’s teaching. Lives with a great guy. And is surprised when she comes face to face with Mack at her school. He chose to move back to Boston after splitting with his ex Tori. He wants her to be his socially anxious son. This leads to a lot of up and down. They both are still very attracted to each other. Unfortunately his ex and his father are both manipulative jerks. Evil viperous jerks. Sweet, steamy, full of feels, humor, a touch of drama, and a fantastic HEA. Love it!! And Sebastian York is always dreamy when he’s a narrator. (
A cute friends to lovers, second chance romance. There were a lot of bumps in the road for Mack and Frankie but the end result was sweet. I enjoyed this book.
I loved this book and couldn’t put it down.
I loved Frankie. This is a woman who doesn’t set out to be mean. She is a great teacher and friend. She values the relationship she has with her boyfriend. However as in life, when you bury feelings, they can come back and they do when Mack comes back into the picture. Frankie is torn most of the book. What does it mean to be happy? Who makes her happy? Her boyfriend is comfortable and loves her deeply but she doesn’t feel the passion that Mack brings out. Does that make her a bad person?
My heart broke over and over for Mac. Here is this man who is just trying to be a good father and wants a second chance with the one woman who really knew him and loved him. He has all this baggage and yet he wants Frankie. He is trying to figure out what is wrong with is quiet son and walk the minefield that is his father and ex girlfriend.
An emotionally turbulent second chance love story. Mack and Frankie’s unlikely friendship shows that you can’t judge a book by its cover. The adventures of Frankie Four-Eyes had me laughing out loud. An enjoyable read.

Well it wouldn’t be a Penelope Ward book if my emotions hadn’t been put through the wringer.
I know I have said this in the past, but I absolutely LOVE Penelope’s books. Even though they are filled with some major angst and heartbreak, she always manages to put my heart back together and leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart. Penelope has the amazing talent to create a story that will have you laughing, swooning, yelling and crying all within the same chapter. But that is what keeps the reader on the edge of their seat while reading her books. She also is great for creating drama and angst without it being to over the top. I never find myself rolling my eyes or getting aggravated when I read her books.
Mack Daddy is Penelope’s latest standalone novel. It is told in Dual POV, which I loved and was something new for her, and is a second chance romance. I love how this story unfolded. Primarily told in the present time, she did give us some chapters that were flashbacks to Mack and Frankie’s past and how they met. I thought this was the perfect way to have their story unfold for the readers.
This is a fairly quick read, but it’s because you won’t be able to put it down once you start. Frankie and Mack’s story was an addicting one 🙂 As I said I thought the flow and pace of this story was spot on. Her stories flow effortlessly and her characters sink into my heart that I can’t help but feel like I am a part of their world. As you may or may not know, when it comes to reviewing Penelope’s books, I don’t go into detail about the storyline very much, because she writes books that you need to go in blind to and experience all the turmoil, love and romance for oneself.
What I will tell you is that this book is completely a standalone novel and brand new characters we have never met before in Penelope’s world. It is a second chance romance with the spin of a friends to lovers story. We also got an amazing single father storyline in this book. Penelope basically wrapped all my favorite things in a book into this one book. We meet Mack, Frankie and Jonah (Mack’s son) in this story. Mack and Frankie knew each other in the past….during their college years. They grew to be friends over their year living together as roommates. Then things happen and they lose contact for 8 years. Now Mack is back in her life. But so much has changed!!! Will Frankie and Mack be able to reconnect?? Can Frankie forgive Mack for the past?? Will Mack be able to get out of his families clutches?? Read this book to find out all those answers and more!!!!
So if you are a fan of Penelope’s you don’t want to miss this book. And if she is a new author to you…Mack Daddy is a GREAT place to start your love for her books. Because once you read one of her books you will be hooked!!!!
So much more!
I rarely read blurbs and went into this blind. What a pleasant surprise! I was expecting a lighthearted romp, and instead I received a deep and emotional story that really touched me! Mack and Frankie’s love story will stay with me for a very long time!
A nice plot twister, easy read 🙂

Mack Daddy is a standalone by Penelope Ward. I’ve been looking forward to this release date and Ward didn’t disappoint.
Although there is some humor, it’s definitely an emotional and intense drama. I loved the premise of the story, a second chance at forever love between Mackenzie “Mack” Morrison and Francesca “Frankie” O’Hara.
Mack and Frankie were friends. She was in college and he was a graduate student. He was affluent, the son of a U.S. Senator. She was the daughter of a single mom, abandoned by her father before birth. He was confident, arrogant, gorgeous, intelligent and off the charts sexy. She was shy, had an anxiety disorder, and a beauty that was hidden behind awkwardness and big bulky glasses. They were roommates and had developed an unlikely friendship.
Ward opens the novel seven to eight years after their last contact. She then builds the storyline by merging past and present views from both Mack and Frankie. This style continued throughout most of the book.
Mack was humbled and I enjoyed seeing both versions of him. I preferred the present version of Mack in relation to Frankie. It was appealing to see his transformation; albeit it was a sad one, until his reconnection with Frankie. Frankie was just the opposite. She had gained strength that she carried well. Experiencing both of their developments added a human aspect that brought complexity and plausibility to the storyline.
It’s somewhat predictable; however, Ward tosses in a few twists into the plot as well as some humorous and interesting supporting cast of characters. I was captivated from the beginning and intrigued to the last word; having devoured it in one sitting.
Having read Mack Daddy, I realized there are several books from Ward that I still need and want to read. I look forward to not only catching up but to also seeing what Ward brings to us in the future.
*4,5 stars for me*
I don’t think you could ever go wrong reading a book from this author, which is why she is one of my favourites. I definitely loved the chemistry between Francesca and Mack. For me it was a slow beginnng but when reading you can’t help but fall in love with it. The emotions the author can make you feel, it takes you on a rollercoaster ride every time!
Francesca (Frankie) meets Mack in college and it doesn’t start very well but every step of the way they take, they slowly fall in love; a love unexpected. But both don’t know how to deal with it ‘cuz Mack has a girlfriend. Everything shifts when Mack comes home from a trip that will change the course of their life.
Now years later, they meet again and Mack is a single dad. Now, Mack will do anything to win her heart and get that chance to finally be able to be together but things have changed in the years they have been apart. Can they salvage things and will Frankie take a leap of faith?…
Two people filled with love were broken when it wasn’t allowed to bloom. Two people went about life after love. Two people living lives they didn’t dream of. But which two? Or perhaps, there are more than two unhappy people in the world…
Francesca never though she would see or hear him again. Certainly not in her classroom…Yeah, nothing could have prepared her for that. But Mack, he dreamed of the day he’d see her again.
Two people…with possibilities. Except she’s his sons teacher…The school has strict rules. Oh and her live in boyfriend…
Looks like the tale of Frankie Four Eyes is about to get far more complicated! P.S. Those are awesome kids books!!!!
Sweet, wildly romantic story about love. Angsty and driven this story needed telling. Messed up family and all I loved it!
5 Mack Daddy Stars!! Totally swoon worthy and a great guy! Frankie is such a great character with some quirks that are endearing. I highly recommend this read and hold on to your panties girls, Mack Daddy will make them fall off
Penelope Ward always blows me away with her creative storylines and lovable characters in every single book that she writes, and Mack Daddy blew me away in the best way possible!
Mack and Frankie were truly amazing and I immediately fell in love with both of them from the very first page. Mack and Frankie had beyond likable and relatable personalities, and I absolutely loved their sizzling chemistry and the close relationship and bond that they had with each other. The banter between them never ceased to entertain me or make me smile, and there was certainly never a dull moment with them. I loved getting to read the story from both of their alternating points of view, and I loved the flashback scenes from when they knew each other in college. Mack and Frankie’s story was immensely interesting and entertaining, and I was hooked from the very beginning. My heart definitely broke for each of them on more than one occasion, but all of the temporary heartbreak was worth it in the end. The secondary characters were a wonderful addition to the story as well, with the exception of Torrie and Mack’s father. You’ll understand what I’m talking about when you read the book. With all of that being said, there were plenty of pleasant surprises and happy moments throughout, and I honestly couldn’t have been more ecstatic with the conclusion.
Mack and Frankie’s story truly touched my heart in more ways than one, and it will certainly stay with me for a very long time to come. I loved this book so freaking much, and although I’m very sad that it is over, I can’t stop smiling about the outcome to their story. Mack Daddy is definitely a top 2017 favorite of mine, and I highly encourage anyone who loves addicting and extremely well-written contemporary romances to check out this book and all of Penelope’s other novels. You will absolutely not regret it!
3.5 stars
Hmmm. I had a couple of small issues with both Mack and Frankie throughout the book. I liked the book, but I think because of some of my issues, I didn’t love it. Oh wait, I loved the cover. Yeah, no cover hating over here. The whole upstairs laundry mat scene, no. Sorry, polite pass on that. It was super weird and icky. Sorry, it was.
I’m just going to chalk it up to not my favorite of the lot, but it won’t stop me from reading future books.
I loved this book. From the beginning I was hooked and wanted more and more of the story.
I admit that I have a weakness with mem with children and Mack without a doubt will steal part of your heart.
How does she keep doing it?
Mack is another character in the long line that Penelope has brought to life.
Even though I wanted to strangle Mack and Frankie for not just saying what they felt, but I love a good second chance romance especially when it is backed up with some witty banter dipped in sexual tension.
The end of the book brings you a bit of drama and a beautiful epilogue. I truly adore when the epilogue is a few years down the road giving me such a wonderful sense of closure.
Penelope she is the daddy of the mack daddy. For real.
Mackenzie “Mack” Morrison and Francesca “Frankie” O’Hara used to be college roommates. They were complete opposites in every way. Mack was outgoing whereas Frankie had social anxiety and prefers to be alone majority of the time. While they are rooming together Mack takes it upon himself to help Frankie come out of her shell. As time progresses they develop feelings but Mack has a girlfriend named Torrie back home. Mack doesn’t want to be a cheater and needs to do what he feels is right but life took an unexpected turn.
“You feel that?” I asked. “Feel how it’s beating for you right now. Every time I even allow myself to think about you, it beats like this. And I don’t know how to make it stop.”
Fast forward eight years later and Mack has decided he’s coming for his Frankie!! I loved his persistence, dedication and passion when it came to claiming his woman. Mack inserted himself in Frankie’s life and stopped at nothing when it came to her. This time we have a problem. Frankie has been dating Victor for two years. She is conflicted over her feelings for Mack because they never left and came crashing back once Mack showed back up. While reading I wasn’t sure which route she was going to go. I knew what I would do but not so sure about Frankie.
“You brought color into my gray and dismal existence, made me realize what it means to have someone change your entire outlook on life, change your reason for living.”
What I also liked about this book was that the hero was a single father. It’s rare to read books about single fathers and Ward did an excellent job displaying his worries, doubts and joys of being the best father he could be to Jonah. As parents you always wonder if you’re doing a good job and Mack definitely had these moments.
In this story we had some steamy, funny, angsty and tense moments. There were several twist and turns that I didn’t see coming. This was another thing I loved about this book. When you thought you had it all figured out something unexpected happened! As a reader I love it when an author can continue to sweep me off my feet which each and every book that they write. This has got to be some of Penelope Ward’s best work yet!!
