I LOVED THIS BOOK. IT WAS SO DELIGHTFULLY DIFFERENT FROM THE USUAL ROMANTIC STEAMY BOOKS I’VE READ, THE CHARACTERS WERE STRONG AND BELIEVABLE I CAN’T WAIT TO READ MORE OF GLYNNIS CAMPBELL BOOKS.
Glynnis Campbell has a way of making her stories come alive and drawing the readers in. I really enjoyed this book. Rane (the hero) is swoon-worthy and Florie (the heroine) is strong and spirited. It’s so easy to get lost in the pages of Ms Campbell’s books and feel like you’re in the world she’s created! I recommend this book!!
I enjoyed the story of Rane and Flora. The story was well written and the characters were likeable!
This book is a great read!
I enjoyed this fun romp! I turned each page wondering what situations the main characters would land themselves in next. I look forward to reading the next books in the series (Scottish Lasses).
All of the above I was enthralled
This book is about two people who are thrown together by fate in the Highlands. The young lady is a jeweler by trade and the young man is a hunter. She seeks sanctuary in an old church. He is ordered to get her to leave the church so the town’s people can persecute her. They have 40 days to come up with a plan. Lots of action, some mystery and love. Will he assist in her persecution??? I recommend this book. It is excellent and exciting. Another 5 star for Glynnis Campbell.
I loved this book – Rane and Florie are such a great couple.
I really liked that these two were just regular people – not Lords and Ladies. Neither were raised as Nobles. Florie worked as a goldsmith and Rane was the huntsman for the Lord of the Burgh. I absolutely adored the final chapter and the epilogue with all of the resolution and surprises enclosed Great romantic read!
A Wonderful Read
A great story, with wonderful characters and lots of humor. I highly recommend this book!
This story will tug your heart strings. Florie has been dealt a bad hand but has made the best of it. While fleeing from unjust accusations, she takes refuge in a church with the help of the local huntsman. The story has twists and turns on the way to HEA. A very enjoyable story!
I just finished this and LOVED evwry minute of it. I’m new to your work but so far its great, kept my interestes from start to finish. I’m a fan!
I loved this book. Great characters. Unique story line.
I recommend this book it was very good.
Young jeweler Florie seeks refuge after accidentally being injured by a huntsman, Rane, while evading the calculating sheriff’s wife who accuses her of a crime. The problem is that while Rane starts out trying to keep this independent stubborn woman safe, making amends for shooting her with a bow, he is coerced by his employer to guard her from escaping the sanctuary church. They both try to guard their hearts. She is likely to either die as punishment for her crime when sanctuary ends in 40 days or he will be punished by death if she escapes. I liked the goodness in the characters and the quiet comradery that occurs while still navigating their feelings, yet they still have challenges to overcome.
I have to say that I love these Scottish stories. I know that Florie was a bit spoiled and used to having her way, but she was genuine, and I think she began softening as the story went along. I loved Rane – the ultimate Viking hero. He had all of the women of the village chasing after him due to some Viking curse that made them all fall for him. And he never planned on settling for one because he had it made, but for some reason, no matter how many times he tried to talk himself through it and put his situation with Florie aside, he began falling for her from the moment he shot her with his arrow.
We watch Florie flee with the only remaining piece of jewelry her mother gave her before she died that can connect her to a father she’s never met while being chased by Lady Mavis who has ulterior motives for catching her and taking the jewelry from her, and it is revealed further along in the story that she is not the person she is thought to be. Lady Mavis was the epitome of a shrew. She was married to Lord Gilbert not because of love but because of an edict from the Crown.
Lord Gilbert is the lord of the land that Rane hunts on and the church where Florie claims sanctuary. With him away at the bidding of Queen Mary, Lady Mavis is left to play her dangerous games that could claim the lives of Florie and Rane.
It was all a great adventure, and I had a hard time putting it down. Had I not had to work, it wouldn’t have taken me an entire month to read it. Though my heart will remain with The Warrior Maid of Rivenloch, this is a wonderful start to another series by a terrific historical romance author. Can’t wait to read more.
Great book!
Interesting characters, danger and intrigue, some smexy-times, and set in Scotland….what more do you need?
I enjoyed this book very much.
This wonderous read hit on all of your emotions, superbly written, with characters all could relate too. It seriously grabs you and transports you into another time and tells a beautiful story of evil, love and commitment. Do read this you won’t be disappointed.
A new favorite that I’ll never forget!
As someone with an intense & undying love of all things Scottish, I’ve read a number of Scottish historical romances, only a handful of which have been quite as memorable – or will be quite as cherished – as this one.
Cheesy though it may sound, this story made me laugh, cry (multiple times, for multiple reasons), rage, cheer for joy, & go “Yep. Same, girl. Same.” whenever Florie would have one of her highly sassy & all-too-relatable inner monologues. This is one story that I’ll definitely carry with me & relive in my mind for many years to come. Slow clap for this one.
P.s., I was fully prepared to rage hardcore if anything happened to Methuselah, so I greatly appreciate the grumpy feline being spared.
I loved this book. Can’t wait to read other books by this author.
