After separating herself from the oppressive cult where she was raised, Mackenzie Soeurs has two dreams: to give her son Riley a better life than she had, and to live in peace, as far from the harsh God of her past as she can get. At least that was the plan until her son got hauled to jail for theft and she lost the mother she never truly understood. In the darkest moments of her life, Mac finds … finds herself surrounded by a group of Christian women she can’t understand and a handsome man, willing to take her son under his wing.
Dane Cooper, Garfield’s former bad boy and groom left at the altar, can’t deny his initial attraction to Mackenzie. Neither can he resist the urge from God to mentor her delinquent son. How can he guard his battered heart and still give Riley the same second chance he was given?
When Jesse, Charley, Randy, and Alex signed up for Mac’s first fitness class, they were looking for someone to whip them into physical shape. What they found was a woman bound by a cruel history, suffering through a tragic present, and in desperate need of a friend…or four.

Love this series!
I loved the way each person played apart in showing Christ love to the ones who were so deeply wounded. It takes all kinds of personalities to get the job done. I also love that they were in it for the long haul. Great read.
Excellent series. Characters are real and believable, flaws and all.
It was a good book, I would have liked a little more detail at the end, It seemed to end abruptly
I really enjoyed this book!
Really enjoyed this book!
While not my favorite book by Sharon Srock, I still believe it is well written. Good plot development as well as characters. I’m glad she continues to write! Ready for the next one.
A great Christian romance that depicts true Christian spirit and values. Truly inspirational.
Good portrayal of living and the ways of a cult. Leaving the cult after her husband dies is a big under taking. She is surrounded by strong Christian woman that want to help her. With a mother and her son, it is hard as this book shows. With faith and friends to help her and her son. Given audio for my voluntary review
I enjoyed reading this book about a woman and her son adjusting to their new lives in Garfield, Oklahoma after fleeing a cult community. I love how four Christian women reach out to Mackenzie Soeurs to help her learn about real love and friendship and the true God, and Dane Cooper takes on the challenge to help Mac’s son, Riley, who is struggling to find his place in his new environment. The characters are appealing and authentic, and the plot includes the challenges of a single mom raising her teen son, and romance.
Maggie was raised in a cult based on a skewed, harsh form of Christianity. So when she escaped she was revolted by new acquaintances with open Protestant Christianity. Yet, facing too many crises occurring and without many of the tools to handle them in her new environment of freedom, a number of acquaintances step in to hold her up. This book demonstrates how loving Christians can be instruments in the God’s hands. It also shows insights into cult mind control. Worth a read.
Interesting book! I don’t know anything about cults, but I can imagine how foreign true Christianity would be to someone taught the legalistic, stern, condemnation of a judgemental God.
good reading for on a plane
A light novel, entertaining and relaxing.
It was an enjoyable romantic read with a Christian theme
a little predictable, nice story.
Great story.
The long term impact of various “religious” cults is scary. This book offers a non-threatening view in a story format. Characters are wonderful and realistic without being overdrawn.
Interesting story line about a mom & son leaving a cult-type religion. And, how the TLC of two men can help turn lives around.
I enjoyed this book but was disappointed when it ended so soon. I really feel the author could have expanded into more depth for the characters. Given the early life of two of the characters, both could have resisted longer to change which I believe would have been more realistic. As Christian, I still find it hard to believe that after 30 years in that type of atmosphere, one is changed in a little over a week. Considering young minds, I was expecting her son to fight the change considerably longer. These comments are not to say that it was written poorly. I would have just preferred to see more development in the characters.
