Forbidden to marry Heath, the one man she truly loves, Lydia Catherine Hayden, an American heiress from Boston, boards a train and heads west to become a mail-order bride when matchmaker, Milly Crenshaw, introduces her to Wyatt from Iowa. Five years have gone by, and she isn’t interested in any of the society gentlemen of whom her father would approve. Her love for Heath has turned to a mild hate … hate since hearing he married someone else.
When the Wild Whitman Gang involved in an Iowa train robbery use orphans traveling west as human shields to make their escape, they converge on Lydia’s marriage ceremony to Wyatt, killing him and abducting the heiress in the process. Things don’t seem to be going well for the architect’s daughter and she’s in a heap of trouble.
When Heath, now a widowed U.S. Marshal in Des Moines, returns home to Boston to visit family, he decides to sign up for Milly Crenshaw’s mail-order bride agency services in hopes of settling down and becoming a farmer. After Milly learns Lydia is now widowed and being held captive somewhere in Iowa with seven orphans from New York City, she pulls Heath into the case, urging him to find her, and marry her if possible. But first, he has to track down one of the most notorious, dangerous, gun-slinging gangs the Wild West has ever known. Then, he has to win Lydia’s heart all over again, if he isn’t shot and killed first in the process.

5 stars easy
This isn’t your typical mail order bride story. Action, adventure, children, dogs, Christian bases, outlaws, posies, weddings, and a warm feeling in the end. Thank you Ms Prysock for a job well don
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet story. The characters were fully developed and complex (even Wyatt who appeared for only a few pages) with unique and interesting personalities. I loved Lydia’s naiveté. Normally, a trait like this would be annoying to me, but she plows ahead with expectations assuming people will “hop-to,” and many times they do. Her faith is simple, but strong, and her interaction with the orphans is special. There was enough intrigue and mystery to add a subplot, which gave the book additional depth. Heath is wonderful, and I chuckled when he couldn’t get out of his own way sometimes. He was so busy trying to save everyone, he didn’t realize he could use saving himself. Notice the beautiful dog on the front because he plays an important role, too.
Love lost and life must go on.

I really enjoyed this story. There’s a lot of excitement and adventure. I could understand the conflicting emotions.
I loved this story! Ms. Prysock’s writing is wonderful. Her character development and scene description put the reader right there in the story! I love that this story shows that even the worst of the worst can change.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a clean read, Christian characters, exciting events, and a real page-turner!
The author has written an action packed emotional story with lots of suspense, danger, romance and humor. While this is not your usual mail order bride story, it deals with a lost and found love. This is Lydia and Heath’s story. Be sure to read this story to find out if they arrive at a HEA. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. It is a real page turner.
This is a great book. The action and suspense keep you on your toes. I had to read it all in one day because I couldn’t put it down. The author is really good with her history and her character development. You really feel like you know the characters when you finish the book. I love the way Ms Prysock puts Bible references and prayers in her stories. Get this one! You won’t regret it. I was given a gift copy, but the review is my own opinion.
This was a great story and a nice addition to the Westward Home & Hearts Mail Order Bride Series. This story can stand alone and love the way this story sets up what will happen to the characters. The characters are interesting to read about and this story is a clean story that has some twists to add to the excitement of the story.
I really enjoyed this book. I could relate to Lydia’s emotions. This seems to be an exciting series.
Wonderful characters that really draw the reader in. I loved this plot and how all the sweet kids were added in. I absolutely loved everything about this book from the danger, romance, children to Fitz the dog! The author does a great job of how Lydia witnesses to those living unsavory lives. This is such a wonderful story, one readers won’t be able to put down!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
I really liked Lydia and Heath’s story!! I picture Heath as looking like Lee Major’s character of Heath Barkley, mainly because I just automatically associate him with the name Heath. Love that Heath is a U S Marshall, as I really like US Marshall’s, thanks to Matt Dillon and John Stranger! Love that Lydia hasn’t turned her back on God when her life didn’t go according to her plan. However, now that she’s taken matters into her own hands, look what happens! Heath is there to save her, and, hopefully, get her to fall in love with him again. This was a great read, especially throwing the children in there!! And Fitz!!! What a great dog!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
I really loved this book. The past comes back with a hurrah, giving Lydia a chance to realize she truly only loved one man. But circumstances get between the first time they loved and now. He marries, she is hurt and angry, signs up for the Mail Order Bride program, and she is off to a new adventure.
Her faith will keep her strong, His faith will direct him to her again. They have a lot to overcome. Will they truly get back what they lost so many years ago?
Lydia relies on her faith to get her through one of the worst times in her life. She uses her faith to help so many others. This book truly touched my soul.
I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review.
An American heiress, a U.S. Marshall, a band of outlaws, and a group of orphans
lead the cast of well-crafted characters in this adventure story set in the mid 1800’s in Boston and Iowa. Encompassing romance, drama, faith, and a bit of humor. the plot flows at a steady pace toward a satisfying ending. Lydia’s witness to the outlaws and her daily commitment to God is inspiring. The uplifting quotes and scriptures at the beginning of each chapter added to the enjoyment of this easy-to-read, entertaining book.
I was given an advanced copy of this book with no obligation to post a positive review. All thoughts and comments are my own.
I loved this story of second chances at love. The characters are well written and realistic. It was a fun book to read.
What a wonderful story! It has action, drama, suspense and romance and will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. The author makes the story come to life with her words and you can feel all the emotions.
Exciting and adventure filled story with love, romance, kidnapping, precious children, evil outlaws, repentant outlaws, and a happy ending. Wonderful read!
This book is very enjoyable. You are caught up in the drama, pulling for a happily ever after, and occasionally catch yourself laughing at a few characters. There is also a good message of redemption. Really loved reading this one. You will too.
This is a very unusual mail order bride story. Lydia and Heath had known and loved each other five years ago. But, her father and circumstances kept them apart. Then, Lydia decided to become a mail order bride to a man in Iowa. They were married. Then, almost instantly there’s a shooting and a kidnapping and everything goes wrong. Heath as a US marshal goes to the rescue. I love the parts where Lydia is able to witness to a group of hardened outlaws. I could not put this book down
