I really, really enjoyed this book. The way the two main characters saw each other and instantly fell in love was beautifully described. Miss Penelope Snowley and Andrew Wilson, the Marquess of Romwich are the best romantic couple I have read about in quite awhile. When the book ended, I was not ready to stop reading their story. I wanted more. Such as perhaps a sequel?
And there was another adorable couple, the siblings of Penelope and Andrew, Harry and Dorothy respectively, also fall madly in love. And the catalyst for both couples are the romance novels that both Penelope and Dorothy love. Unfortunately, Andrew, not so much. Which is sure to cause a little friction between Penelope and Andrew.
The various storylines are woven together in a wonderful way. Not once was I bored. I highly recommend this book.
I received an ARC of this ebook to read and give an honest review. In addition, I purchased a copy of the completed ebook from Amazon.
The overall storyline of two courtships for a brother and sister courting another brother and sister was intriguing. The main focus was on Penelope and Andrew, the secondary courtship was between Penelope’s brother Harry and Andrew’s sister Dorothy. Through about two thirds of the story I really had a hard time relating to Penelope. She loved reading romance novels and it confused me when she and Andrew started to get to know each other. It felt like she behaved as if she grew up in a cult, cut off from everyone and everything. Every time she faced an emotional hurdle she ran away (literally ran). Andrew on the other had did not lack confidence or know his own mind. Regardless of what he and Penelope went through he was certain of one thing; she was it for him. I feel Penelope was dang lucky she had such a steadfast man in her life. The first half of the story dragged along with pitiful inner dialogue that was driving me crazy. Then there was an unexpected twist in the story and this sleepy tome started to wake up. I already had guessed what the dilemma was as it has been used in several other books I have read. However, I did have a shocking wakeup call when the betrayer of the two couples was someone I had never suspected. This caused a paradigm shift in the story. The scandal, the betrayer, the ensuing mayhem that was unleashed soon came to a conclusion that had to be accepted by all. It was not satisfactory in the least but there was nothing to be done about it. I enjoyed the epilogue and the extended epilogue as it tied up all the loose ends quite nicely and happily. The first half of the book I give it one star. The last half of the book because there was more excitement and drama, I give it a three and a half stars. I have read Ms. Violet Hamer’s three previous books and enjoyed them. This one I feel there is room for improvement.
