Love this series. Currently reading the final book and I’m already sad it’s over!!
Admittedly, I might have picked this book because of the sexy man on the cover. However, I got so much more than just a sexy romance with Lure of Obsession by Lisa Kessler. There was this really fantastic world-building happening here, and I am really looking forward to the rest of this series!
I love the concept of the Muses. It was just such a unique plot for a PNR, and I really enjoyed in. I do think the romance and mystery overshadowed the paranormal aspects a bit, but that’s why this is going to be a series. Lisa Kessler did a really great job balancing, and I think with each book, it’ll get easier to balance. There will be lots of room for growth in characters and in expanding on the powers of the Muses.
I love the characters. I love that Lisa Kessler gives us a sexy, high speed romance, but it also feels realistic. I loved being pulled into the story and the characters.
I definitely enjoyed this and am looking forward to the next book in this series. Check this one out!

The daughters of Greek muses descended from the Greek Gods are reborn along with guardians to protect them.
One of the muses is murdered which strikes up an investigation.
Nate, a detective, has sworn off relationships until he meets Mel (the muse of tragic poetry), the one he is destined to protect.
The Titans want the muses out of the way which complicate things.
This book has an interesting story line and characters. It’s got action, steamy moments, and a softer layer.
The narrator was new for me and did a good job, and even sings.
I requested this audiobook from http://www.audiobooksunleashed.com for free and have voluntarily left this review.

Melanie is one of the nine Greek muses who have been reborn in mortal women. Mel is the muse of Tragic Poetry and an English teacher at the high school. When Mel comes home to find her roommate/sister ( one of the muses ) dead at the bottom of the stairs, she calls the police. Nate is a detective and when he meets Mel, strange things start happening to him. After a tragic accident, Nate wants nothing to do with relationships but something draws Mel to him. When it becomes obvious that someone is after Mel, Nate takes her security very seriously and moves her in with him. Will Nate let Mel into his heart or will he always stay alone?
Good story but some of the dialogue seemed wrong to me. Tragedy, sizzling sex, and not really a cliffhanger but sort of continues to the next one. Not for sure if that makes sense.
Nine sisters of the heart, each with their own individual talents and callings, each with a soul mate to protect her. Sounds like Christine Feehan’s Sisters of the Heart series, and reads with the same kind of sympathetic nurturing heroines and the same kind of fiercely overprotective dark paladin-guardians. Enjoyable read, particularly if you like Christine Feehan’s work.
When the nine muses of Zeus are reborn, they must face against those who wants them dead. But they are not alone; they have Guardians to stand by them. As the series begins with one of them dead, another muse meets with her own Guardian as they try to find out who killed the victim.
This romantic suspense is a great start to the series. The characters, including the villains, were distinctive. In the overall series plot, it ended in a cliffhanger; but for the couple, every hangup and obstacle they were facing in their relationship were resolved at the end of the book. In conclusion, I would recommend this book if one wants to read a romantic suspense with a paranormal twist.

Lisa Kessler is definitely an author to read. Lure of Obsession, the first book in her Muse Chronicles has everything from friendship and love to suspense and mystery. The story sets up what promises to be an incredible series.
Melanie Jacoby is a high school English teacher. She’s a human, chosen by the Gods to be one of the nine daughters of Zeus, reborn to inspire mankind to move forward with inventions, music, and science. The nine chosen daughters have various backgrounds and are from all across the country. Melanie, the Muse of Tragic Poetry, shares a home with Nia, the Muse of Astronomy.
The story starts out with Melanie coming home and discovering the lifeless body of Nia at the bottom of the stairs. Police are convinced that Nia’s death was an accident and that she simply fell down the stairs. Melanie is adamant that Nia’s death was murder.
Detective Nate Malone is a good detective. He’s smart and thorough. He tends to listen to his gut instincts. He initially agrees that Nia’s death was just a tragic accident until he’s alone with Melanie at her house and gets an unexplained vision. He now knows that Nia was murdered, but the question becomes who killed Nia and why.
To figure out who’s behind Nia’s death and the attempts on Melanie’s life, the muses are going to have to rely on the ancient Greek scrolls and believe that nine Guardians have been put on Earth to protect them and help them with their quest to inspire.
I loved everything about Lure of Obsession. The main characters immediately drew me into the story. For me, the concept of adding in Greek mythology with a modern day twist had me intrigued. The romance had me cheering Mel and Nate on, wishing and hoping to get a happily-ever-after for them. But the mystery and suspense is what kept me reading.
It should be noted that each book in this series will feature a new couple. However, the danger to the muses continue throughout the series. It appears the ultimate villain sticks around throughout. The Muse Chronicles is definitely a binge-worthy reading series. I’m looking forward to the next book.
**Personal Purchase**
Lure of Obsession is a perfect combination of romance, myth, paranormal, mystery, with a bit of thrills thrown in!!!
Melanie is the human vessel for the Muse of Tragic Poetry. Her world is rocked when she finds her roommate dead. Nate is the detective assigned to the case, and it’s apparent from their first meeting that they have insane chemistry. However, romance is only part of the story. It is an intriguing mystery with some pretty thrilling twists and turns.
Not only is this told from her point of view but from Nate’s, the killer’s, and some other nefarious characters. That really makes the book even better!
The characters of Melanie and Nate are more than they first appear. There are layers that make them such complex characters, and it was quite enjoyable seeing those layers peeled away to reveal something new about each one!
This was a solid read to what promises to be a quite intriguing series!!!!!

Lure of Obsession is the first book in author Lisa Kessler’s “Muse of Chronicles” series. This is actually the first book I’ve had the pleasure of reading from Ms. Kessler and I really enjoyed it. I immediately became invested in the characters and found myself having to read just one more page to see what was going to happen! I’ll definitely be finishing this series and will be looking into Ms. Kessler’s other books.
Melanie “Mel” Jacoby is a teacher at the local high school. She’s also the reborn Muse of Tragic Poetry, ever since she turned eighteen. Ten years later, she and her fellow muse sisters are working together to restore a Theater to bring together the thinkers, artists, and dreamers of the world. When her roommate and Muse sister is murdered, they must convince the police it wasn’t an accident and protect themselves from a killer.
Nate Malone is a detective. He’s dealt with hundreds of witnesses, but yet something about Melanie Jacoby brings out a protective nature he’s not comfortable with. When strange visions appear and his birthmark starts to enflame, Nate starts to think he’s insane.
Wow, what a great start to this series! Ms. Kessler did a fantastic job of setting the stage for what’s to come in this series. We’ve got nine young women who are the reborn Muses. With the rebirth of the Muses, there are also Guardians whose powers won’t be revealed until they meet their Muse. So when the Muse of Astronomy is murdered, her roommate Mel meets a detective who happens to be her Guardian. This sets up our first Muse/Guardian couple. I immediately liked both Nate and Mel. They are both attracted to each other but Nate has issues from his past that makes him not want a permanent relationship. When Mel becomes the next target for the killer, Nate steps in to protect her. They were both great characters and I quickly wanted to see them get their HEA.
I really enjoyed this book! I felt Ms. Kessler’s writing was excellent and she did a wonderful job of balancing everything within the story to give us a little bit of everything. It wasn’t just a romance, it wasn’t just a murder mystery, nor was the Mythology/Paranormal overwhelming. Just a perfect balance! Since this is the first book in the series, we meet the other Muses and will be seeing their stories in the following books. Of course, the villains are still on the loose so we will be dealing with them in the coming books also. Drama, suspense and a sweet romance make for a great read and a fabulous start to this series. Can’t wait to meet the rest of the Muses and their Guardians!
Fantastic start to the series. I love everything I read of Lisa’s!
So much free fun! Part of My Paranormal Valentine collection for a limited time!
Terrific book and author!
Muses. 9 of them. They have guardians. What it means no one knows at least not at the start of the book. This is a great start to a series and it looks like we will learn more about the muses and why someone is after them and trying to raise the Titans as the series progresses. Yes these are standalones but it seems like the story continues somewhat throughout the series. I like Nate, he is sensitive and has his own demons that he battles while figuring out the guardian thing since he is the first. Mel is a pistol and while she is the first muse with a guardian they are figuring it all out. With her the glass is half empty attitude and tendency for her thoughts to immediately go to the worse case scenario makes her an interesting one to start this off with.
I have read other books in the series so it’s good to come back and find out where it all started. Great read.
I loved this one! Greek mythology woven into a modern tale with the Muse of Tragic Poetry and a hunky police detective. Mel is one of the nine Muses, who are born into each new generation to inspire the masses, and Nate is the sexy, sweet and protective police officer. Mel is as drawn Nate as he is to her, but neither understand what is happening. Mel and her sisters didn’t know they would each have their own protector, who has been marked by the Gods and will each gain a special power once they meet/find their Muses. This was a fast-paced, suspenseful and intriguing story that’ll have you turning the pages well into the night! I can’t wait until the next one! Highly Recommended!
Loved the start of this new series! Melanie was a great character who was likeable and one of the muses. Nate was also a great character and both were well developed. Lots of action and mystery along with lots of great chemistry and some steam. Secondary characters were also likeable. One secondary character really stood out, Maggie the little girl was also well developed and enhanced the story. An HEA to the story while you were left wanting the next book in the series. Loved it!
I’m in LOVE! This was lovely read, full of romance and adventure and a true Hero. I was having a really rotten week when somebody told me to read this book and boy were they right! I fell for the characters, the story, and even the concept. Imagine a greek Muse wandering around in your town, right? I’ve always loved mythology and Lisa Kessler’s Lure of Obsession doesn’t disappoint at all. Muses, sexy detectives, evil cults and madmen all rolled into a romance that titillates the senses and leaves you choked up in the end. The HEA in this book only assures me tht the next ones will be fantastic as well. Lisa Kessler tells a great story and teases you into her world so well when I hit the last page my reaction was, “Wait, What? I have to wait for more?” You see she tells the story and it stands alone but since you know it’s only book number one you realize you must wait for more of the magic. I’ve already told my hubby he’ll need to get the rest for me as they are released. He stared at me and asked”How Many?” (I’ve done tis before) and I told hom around eight or so just to see how he’d react. Then I read him chpter one. The man isn’t objecting in fact, HE’s stolen my copy for himself!
Rating
5 out of 5 Hearts
I adore Lisa Kessler’s writing style… Descriptive and picturesque with just enough steam to send me searching for to cool down with. This is very well-written, fast paced, easy to follow with horrific twists and oh so sensuous turns. Amazing job Lisa Kessler! If I could give it ten Hearts, I would.
I don’t know how many times I shook my head thinking, “Oh No you just didn’t do that..” wanting to throw my Kindle across the room because of the things that Mel would do. Strong women characters are intriguingly stubborn making the story even better.
The world building is consistent, dark, full of mystery, suspense, angst, romance, horror, and then some.
Nate has issues of his own that he keeps tucked safely away, until, his world is turned upside down as soon as he meets Mel. Can you even imagine what he has to endure?
I don’t use spoilers in my reviews because it can ruin a story for some. This story is so original, and fresh I highly recommend it to the mythology, romantic suspense readers out there who are 18+.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I love it so much that I purchased a copy.
This is a great beginning to a series. I just loved all the characters. The book is written with a dual POV so understanding the characters was easy. The plot flowed beautifully. I really hated to see it come to an end. Nate, Mel and Maggie are so good together and loveable that I felt like I was saying good-bye to good friends. I highly recommend this book to anyone especially if you love suspenseful romance.
