This book is a forbidden romance between a single dad and his daughters best friend. This is the first book ive read from this author and ill read her works again.
I recommend this book if you like forbidden romances
Maya introduces us to neighbors, Blake, 19, a High School senior, her new neighbor Caroline, 17, and Caroline’s father, William, whose wife moved out with no forwarding address, prompting numerous and rapid moves to “avoid gossip” from the people of their community. That helps explain part of Caroline’s lack od self-confidence and basically “blah” personality.
OK, we found this novel on the Romance rack, and so far it seems like a rather familiar trope, so let’s not worry ourselves about the plot, which is a good thing because there is noting notable in any conflicts.
We are never told why Blake is still in High School at 19; it’s obvious that she has above average intelligence.
Since Blake is easily the oldest student in her High School and has experience in the school of hard knocks, there’s no surprise that she finds her male classmates to be somewhere on the immature to puerile spectrum. But she has regular contact with the old man neighbor, so it’s unavoidable that she goes into the advanced stages of lust. Meanwhile William sees Blake as a very well-built woman, although she’s probably young enough that the neighbors will start rumors if he starts chasing after her booty. We never really discover why William has that particular sensitivity, although it may be related to rumors cropping up after his wife split.
For me there wasn’t any build of romantic tension between Blake and William, probably because they had no common point of attraction. Yes, they each lusted for the other, but there were no romantic feelings that I detected.
Maya deserves props for a relatively strong first effort; I placed it right on the 3-4 stars boundary. Right now I’m Blake’s age, but I grew up in a remarkably progressive corner of a very progressive state. If I put myself in what I recall of my 16-17 year old personality, I might have behaved just like Blake. But I would have called it a hook-up, not a romance. That believable facet of Blake’s behavior pushed me off the fence on the 4 star side.

Blake: I never knew the brooding single dad in the neighborhood would become my obsession one day. I’m in trouble for lusting after a man who is decades older than me, but then he’s too perfect to avoid. Too hot to ignore. Too Forbidden to let go. I am tired of frat boys and clingy boyfriends. William: She enters our lives like a gusty wind. At first, she seems like a bad influence on my daughter. But soon, I realize Blake is not all about prank and mischief. There’s a lot hidden behind her naughty eyes and impish grin. I want to help her, offer her a shoulder to cry one, unknown about my own emotions. Feelings that draw me closer to her. Lure is the debut novel of Maya Sliver. I really really thought it was amazing. And she did such a good job I don’t think that you would know that it was a debut novel unless you knew that. I really loved Blake and William and I thought they were very down to earth and easy to relate to. This is an age gap book and I love that kind of book. I think you can fall in love with all sorts or people and there is certainly nothing wrong with the man being older. I loved William. He is a father and really dote on his daughter Carrie. She is a high school senior and the same age as Blake. Blake, is a orphan. She has never had a easy life and is not a nineteen year old senior who is working her butt off too to support herself. She has never really known what love is and when she meets Carrie and William she figures that out. However this isn’t a insta love kinda love and I really really enjoyed that. Seems like so many books are meet and bam they are madly in love. William is still getting over the fact that the mother of his daughter just picked up one day and hit the road with not a word about it to him or his daughter. He has things he needs to work through. Blake for her part I thought was a very mature nineteen. But William struggles with the possibility of a relationship with someone the same age as his daughter. I will be honest that I thought nineteen was a odd age for a high school senior. But I have one of those birthdays that had me starting early or late and I was seventeen when I graduated and almost through my first second year of college when I turned nineteen. This book is beautiful and full of love and life. It’s not a wham bam thank you ma’am forbidden book and I loved that about it. Maya Sliver has done and amazing job with her first novel and I can’t wait to see what she gives us next.
A good older man younger woman romance – the perfect book for anyone looking for something light, fast pace, and good to read. It is well written and entertaining with characters that are interesting and intriguing. Quite enjoyable!

Blake has never had an easy go growing up as she tries to support herself at 19 and finish high school while working as much as she can. When she hitches a ride into town and leads the driver in the opposite direction just to get to where she’s going. The man is definitely good looking and intrigues her more than anyone has in awhile.
William Wild and his daughter, Carrie (17), have just moved to town and continue moving to avoid their past with his ex wife, Stella. He has no desire for any relationship and is going to do whatever he can to keep Carrie safe. Yet he soon discovers that keeping a tight grip on her may actually drive her further away.
Although William has no desire for Carrie to be friends with the crazy Blake he soon sees a different side of her and realizes that she has gone through a lot. Yet Blake soon makes her intentions for William known and is he willing to cross that line with his daughter’s best friend?
This was a good book and I liked how my opinions of certain characters definitely evolved during the book as we learned more about them.
At the beginning of the book I definitely wasn’t the biggest fan of Blake for leading the Wild family astray in their quest for food and then I really wondered what her intentions were when she befriended Carrie so quickly at school. I definitely didn’t trust Blake at all and part of me wanted to scream at Carrie to run the other way fast! I did like that Blake took care of Carrie at a party and brought her home safe although I wasn’t happy she lost her for a bit.
William was bitter from the end of his marriage and how his ex wife treated him and Carrie. I completely understood why you’d put up barriers and I know I have done the same thing which could be why I never wanted William to get hurt. In that sense I never wanted Carrie to get hurt either and I could sense that something big was coming in that direction.
I knew Blake wanted William but I was curious to see how long William was going to be able to hold out and Blake definitely tempted him so often. Yet a few times William was able to see a vulnerable side of Blake and as we got a sense of her past and what she had been through I really began to want her to find someone that would keep her safe.
There was a certain scene that was super hot and really changed everything although William was really running from Blake after that but then Blake opened up and everything evolved into something deeper.
When things exploded it went up in a big way and at that point I was really disappointed in the way things were handled by William as Carrie was still in high school so I was frustrated at his reaction and him not attempting to stop Carrie with her own plans. That for me was a bit of a stumbling block as I am a single parent and no matter what my kids come first, even above love. I loved that Blake did the grown up thing and worked at resolving everything.
The end was good and I would love to have a story about Carrie next!

Lure by Maya Sliver is the story of William, an older man who is a divorced single parent of a seventeen year old daughter, and a younger woman, Blake who is a nineteen year old orphan and free spirit. William was greatly hurt by his ex-wife and is extremely concerned with local gossip. His focus is on quality time with his daughter, Caroline, before she starts college. A perchance meeting with the William and Caroline results in Blake turning her attention on William. Eventually, William and Blake develop a relationship even with their age difference. I found this book to be a fine read. It had interesting characters and steamy chemistry.

So I gave this book a chance and I was really hoping to like it but that wasn’t the case at all. I found William to be a very hard man to read. Yes I get that he’s hurt and hasn’t overcame the past hurt yet. He’s moving his daughter around so much that I’m surprised her head isn’t spinning. I never really got a good read on him. He’s very, very, very overprotected of his 18 yr old daughter. Like instead of trusting her, he takes her everywhere. It got a little better once Blake was in the picture but that was he was so wrapped up in his thoughts about her that he forgot about his daughter. I feel like he wasn’t exactly ready for a relationship but was pushed into it by Blake. She had a way of pushing him into things he wasn’t ready for. He never really forgave his ex for what she did. I could go on but I’ll get to Blake. I tried to like her but from the beginning I could tell she was trouble. There was no one guiding her and she basically did whatever she wanted. She was naive in so many ways but yet knew exactly how to manipulate an entire family and make her way into their family. She used Caroline as a pawn, yes she mad but it didn’t last as long as I hoped. I found it hysterical that the guy that Caroline was crushing on, had a crush on someone else. He reacted the way I wanted everyone else to react but didn’t. Some of the dialect it had me questioning what was going on. There was a lot of “chewing on” in sentences. Oh and I realize that she grew up in foster care and had a traumatic experience but really calling a penis “your dude” in the heat of passion would have turned a older guy off or at least I would think so. It sure did. Blake’s talking during the sex turned me off and I had to laugh. They had sex and it was immediately “I love you and let’s move in together”. That must have been some good sex for William to move that fast. I can’t even imagine how this is going to work. It sounds more like a mid life crisis then a loving relationship. I don’t blame his daughter for going to school and getting the heck out of there. I would have as well. I didn’t want to write this but I knew I had to be honest in my review. I also realize this is a new author and I wanted to be honest in my review. I want to say I’d recommend this book but I’m not sure I can.

“You seem like the only man on earth who can take me out of my darkness, who can help me heal and help me get rid of my nightmares.” Blake is a 19 year old high school senior well beyond her years. She is an orphan and never experienced real love until she met William and Carrie. William is a single dad of a high school senior. This is the first book that I have read from this author and one I enjoyed very much. Yes they were years apart from each other but when you meet Blake she is not your typical high school senior. William and her relationship did not happen overnight. He was getting over the fact that his wife and mother to Carrie just picked herself up and left and never looked back. He ignored his feelings for Blake for many reasons, the most important one, their ages. But once he allowed himself to feel and not hide he was able to accept their relationship. It was slow and honest and not at all rushed. Sometimes life isn’t the perfect equation. Age differences, and so much more get in the way. The most important thing is to realize is if this is what will make you both happy and not worry what others will think. Your happiness is what makes a true relationship. William and Blake found their happiness. Sometimes you just have to think outside the box.
The storyline was good and the characters were wonderfully written which kept me turning the pages until the very end!
Everyone has a past, and sometimes it is difficult to allow yourself to get over issues that you’ve been dealing with for years. Sometimes all it takes is another person in your life to help you look at things from a different viewpoint or make it easier to accept change when you were previously fighting it. Lure is a prime example of this in that the characters needed change to happen before they were able to see their past for what it was: the past. Relationships are tested and questioned in this book but they are overall what allows each character to change for the better.
The story is entertaining and the writing is good. The characters themselves are all down to earth and warm.
William is a wonderful and caring, if not over-protective, father. He works hard to keep his daughter happy and safe. He is not perfect, however, and swaddles his daughter way too much.
Blake, for me, is like a free-spirit. Wild and fun, she brings a happiness and lightness to William and his daughter’s life that is desperately needed.
With that being said, I wanted to love this couple together but felt like it was a case of lust instead of love. The first part of the book was about Blake being a regular teenager with a teenager’s priorities of parties and friendships. The second, was devoted to her chase and seduction of her best-friend’s father. I felt as though the turnaround came too quick. Her priority switch seemed like a light has been flipped instead of a natural progression into love. Because of that, their love, for me, felt forced.
It was also hard to understand why Blake decided to let go and be with Blake when what seems like minutes before, he was still adamantly fighting himself over it.
I also wished there were more meaningful moments between them together because I did not feel the depth of love in their relationship that I believe I should have had.
This is a quick beach read that will satisfy those looking for something light and fluffy.
I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I liked this story. Caroline (Carrie), Blake and William are all great characters. I liked several of the secondary characters. Ben was an awesome friend. I was really shocked by Joshua. I didn’t see the twist with Joshua, Carrie and Blake coming at all. Really liked how they worked through their issues and resolved all of their angst. Loved the happy ever after. Definitely recommend giving this one a read.

For being this author’s first book, it wasn’t bad. It was very wordy and I feel like some of the words could have been taken out but I’m not an editor and maybe her editor told her to keep them in. The plot was awesome and really something that I loved. Age gaps really work for me. Both Blake and William were sweet characters. Both seemed to talk pretty proper (I’m feeling like this is a UK based book or the author is from the UK) but it didn’t jive the best with me. The plot line was very intriguing and while I may not have loved it as a whole I had that urge to finish it and find out where the story took the characters.
Now on to the not so great stuff. (And please know this is only my option and doesn’t reflect on the author as a person because I can see her potential.)
Both characters were great but sometimes it felt like they were the same person. I couldn’t find a separate voice either for them in my head (if that make sense). I’m not saying that made it a bad book, it just made it hard to connected deeply with them. I noticed as the story went on it was a lot of telling and not showing. That’s another thing that drew me out of the story.
The sex scene were just….. I wanted them to be hot but some of the authors wordage really drew me out. Like honey pot? Soggy panties? Dribbling with juices? And more. Just no. Things like that draw me out of a book so fast. I really wanted to stop at time but wanted to know the outcome for these characters.
I feel like I’m talking about a lot of bad but and there was some other things that weren’t personally my thing but they were smaller things that I don’t need to really mention.
I want to congratulate the author on writing a book and she should be proud. I feel like she has a lot of potential when it comes to crafting a story that readers would like reading and even though this book wasn’t the best for me, I plan to see what else she writes in the future and maybe give her another try. 3 stars #2OCCjD
Living in a new small town is more than William bargains for when his 18 year old daughter brings home a new friend. Quirky and misunderstood Blake does not act like the typical teenager and when Williams feelings go from sympathetic to taboo the two become so much closer. But will William’s controlling ways be too much for Blake or will the age gap be the nail in the coffin? With characters and a storyline that instantly draws you into the book this was a great read.
This book will grab your attention right at the beginning and keep you page-turning. A forbidden romance between an older man and a 19-year-old high school senior. Blake was an orphan and old beyond her years. This was a slow-burn romance that eventually kicked up steam. The love really developed into a strong bond and there is a HEA. Plenty of drama and some tension at times. A good read that will keep your interest. The chemistry between Blake and William was strong.
William a divorced father of a seventeen yr old daughter is a hard character to follow. He and his daughter move around the country. The reason is unclear, Blake a nineteen yr old girl comes into his life through his daughter. She is from a different generation removed and I think looking for stability. William wants to be a shoulder for Blake to lean on. I did not feel the chemistry between the two or any commonality .The book is a short read that for me asks the question what does a 40 year old man want with a 19 year old besides sex and an ego boost.
This is the author’s first book and I am sure will serve as a good start . “I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.”

I believe this is the Authors first book she’s written and with that being said, overall- it wasn’t a bad book. I didn’t love it or hate it, she definitely has potential and I admire that she published a book and got it out in the world.
I felt that William and Blake didn’t have that spark or connection and the wording or sentences of the story, at times didn’t make any sense or was lacking. They were both great characters, but I felt like we didn’t get their whole back story and I felt Caroline just made an appearance here and there and wasn’t sure what the dynamic was between all of them.
While, this wasn’t a bad book there is definitely potential with this author.
