*****
Author’s note:
Many people use the phrase “the dark side of the moon” to describe something mysterious and unknown. The dark side of the moon is supposed to be the side we never see, the side that faces away from Earth. This side of the moon faces the cold, black expanse of space. What could be on this side of the moon? (As taken from “science.howstuffworks.com/dark-side-of-moon.htm”
Dark side is used as a literary term and a metaphor for the alien’s artifact and intent. Any similarity to any popular album by any group is purely coincidental.

This is a good hard science book with swift action but also the alien twist
Very reminiscent of 2001 A Space Odyssey, similar premise.
enjoyed this book. The competition between Russia, USA, and China to get to the object emitting a signal on the moon was intense. Is it a spoiler if i say that i needed a story that the Americans are heroes again. The launch of rockets to the moon from 3 different directions skillfully told and woven together was believable.
Great read for you.g
Makes you wonder if it could happen
Once I started reading, I had to continue to the end. Events were realistic and highly imaginary. Great read.
Good, believable story. Characters were fun to get know in this potentially deadly race to get there first. Scary to think what our different governments are capable of.
The Chinese discover alien artifacts on the dark side of the moon, and the race to be the first nation to land astronauts near the artifact is on. Shows the politics, rivalries, and unexpected cooperation between the main contenders: US , Russia and China. Some amazing problem solving is described, with an awesome surprise ending. Wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t a sequel to follow.
Enjoyed the book. If there were an alien machine left behind I could believe the world powers would react as portrayed.
Loved it
While this is a clear borrow from the beginning of 2001 it actually explores the how of the process to get to the artifact with more of a current twist.
I love the twists and the humanity shown.
Well written and suspenseful. It was a page turner!
Extrapolate from current events based on Chang’s Rover. Good read.
somewhat predicable
I liked the way the culture of the governments are plausibly adapted to “the lunar discovery.”
Liked the story line and what could happen should alien presence happen. The competition between China, Russia and the US is plausible, if not probable.
I liked the book enough to buy the second in the series. The story was real interesting with an great ending. It did have too much politics in it though.
Lots of fun to read and let your mind roam free. Clever ways of solving problems in this “space race” story. As well as some good surprises.
Enjoyed the premise
