Things go from bad to worse when Zoe and Ellie accompany a group of teens from Zimmerman Academy on a female empowerment retreat while the guys stay home with the kids.
“Lunacy Lake” earns 5/5 Camping Ventures…Exciting and Fun Read!
I am a big fan of Kathi Daley’s Zoe Donovan Mystery series, and after thirty-two books, worldwide travels, a couple of weddings, growing teens, a few babies, and a plethora of dead bodies, the series continues to be exciting and fun! Kathi has created an engaging extended family with everyday quandaries. Alex is fifteen, well beyond her immediate peer group, and has been in Zoe’s and her husband Zak’s care for several years. She’s a great kid, but desires to join her friends, most two years older than her. at a female empowerment camp. Parental compromise is struck; Alex can go, but Zoe and her BFF Elle will join as chaperones. Surprising camp issues arise: isolated with a ban on all electronic devices. Ok, a week off the grid can’t be all that bad…hiking, zip lining, rock climbing, a swimming pool and sauna, but oops, it’s the a dead body that is the most taxing. I always enjoy the use of a first-person narrative sharing Zoe’s perspective along with descriptions and dialogue that illustrate well the setting, personalities, and emotions. The mystery is engaging and being in an isolated area adds greatly to the suspense when threats to their safety are revealed. Additionally its always enjoyable to get insights into the characters connections: mother-like to daughter-like, friend to friend, adults to children. Kathi Daley has a well-rounded writing style with a cozy mystery often challenging the reader’s detective skill, but she also includes everyday activities and insights into the character. It’s always fun to join in with the Donovan/Zimmerman family.

Lunacy Lake
Zoe Donovan Mystery, Book #32
Kathi Daley
5 Stars
Synopsis:
Things go from bad to worse when Zoe and Ellie accompany a group of teens from Zimmerman Academy on a female empowerment retreat while the guys stay home with the kids.
Review:
Although this book does not take place in Ashton Falls, Zoe and Ellie still manage to get themselves into a dangerous situation once again. The bad news is that Zak is not around to help her out. The good news is that Zoe is more than capable to take care of herself and those she love. Well, almost.
In this thirty second installment, the characters are well developed and well rounded, which I have come to expect from this author. Zoe and Ellie are more like family than friends, and they would do anything for each other. They are both strong women and are capable of doing more than they even know.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and this description pulled me into the story right from the beginning. The mysteries were well plotted and moved along at a nice pace. The buildup of tension had me swiping pages at an alarming rate because I could not wait to see what was going to happen next.
I would highly recommend this book (and series) to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. Zoe and the gang are some of my favorite book characters to hang out with.

A working vacation for Zoe Zimmerman allows her to spend time with her best friend Ellie and adopted daughter Alex. Although super expensive and exclusive, this week of camp is supposed to allow women to find their inner goddess and develop their confidence and strengths. The setting is isolated yet beautiful, the accommodations far superior to any other type of summer camp.
With all this natural beauty and personal empowerment energy, something still does not feel right.
If you know anything about the life of Zoe Donovan Zimmerman, you will understand that trouble finds her, no matter how isolated the setting. When a camp counselor dies on the first night, Zoe’s “Zodar” awakens and Ellie has to develop a new to her kind of strength.
Very exciting. Zoe shows how she has grown through this series. While animals do not play a role in this book, the way they have in past adventures, the tension will keep you on the edge of your seat as you turn pages. Who are the real bad guys and who are the victims? When will Zoe and Ellie be discovered? With no one else available to help, and no way to get a message off the mountain, this is one dangerous vacation that the women must handle on their own.

Although Alex is 2 years younger that the other girls who will be attending, Zak and Zoe agree to let her attend since Zoe has made a stipulation to be a chaperone. When the other chaperone is not able to accompany Zoe, Zoe calls upon her best friend Ellie to go with her. There are eight young women from Zimmerman attending with Zoe and Ellie chaperoning. Finding their is no way in or out other than by helicopter or hiking down the mountain and all electronic equipment, cell phones, etc. are banned, Zoe really begins to question this camp. Zoe’s Zadar is stimulated and she and Ellie agree to keep their eyes and ears on alert when one counselor is found dead in the sauna at the camp. This book provides the reader to be on their alert to the many twists and turns provided. Of course the characters are well developed and believable. The setting is wonderfully described. There really isn’t a need to have read any of the other books in this series since the background is provided in the beginning of the book. Ms. Daley has provided a well rounded book that leaves the reader well satisfied.

Zoe and her friend Ellie have agreed to chaperone eight girls from the Zimmerman Academy for a women’s empowerment camp. Zoe and Ellie soon learn that not only is the camp in a secluded area but there are no cell phones allowed so she won’t be able to stay in contact with their husbands. This is a good thing right? The men have the kids and the ladies need to know that they can trust them to be on their own. The first night of the camp both need a break from all the energy at the welcoming get together. While exploring Zoe comes upon a dead body but there is nothing visible that says the young woman was murdered, it looks like a natural death. They never saw anyone but her enter the building so what else could it be. The leader of the group says the police have been notified and that for them to carry on with their stay. As the week begins to progress and the zip line that Ellie and Alex are on gets stuck Zoe begins to wonder just what is going on with this camp. Zoe being Zoe she can’t just sit back especially if there is the slight chance that one of her girls could get hurt. She begins to investigate along with Ellie. As they start to see some weird goings on they both know they must delve deeper. Follow along as the two look into what is really going on at this girls empowerment camp and try to keep their girls safe. What evil lurks behind closed doors? Will they be able to stop what is already in progress or will they just have stay on the sidelines and watch? This was a great read, I enjoyed seeing Zoe and Ellie in action together without their husbands and kids. It was a treat to see their friendship at work and I can’t wait to see what happens next with everyone after this exciting read.

Lunacy Lake is the thirty-second book in Kathi Daley’s awesome Zoe Donovan Cozy Mystery series. The writing flows smoothly at a fast pace, and the well-developed characters are three dimensional and affable. Once again, Ms. Daley has provided readers with an intriguing mystery, with twists and turns to keep them engaged. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy a well-crafted cozy mystery.
Zoe Donovan Zimmerman and her best friend, Ellie Denton, have agreed to chaperone a group of eight Zimmerman Academy teens, including fifteen-year-old Alex Bremmerton, who lives with Zoe and her husband, Zak, at a weeklong Inner Goddess’ female empowerment camp. Zoe had her doubts about the group attending the camp, but when she learned that the shuttle to the camp was a helicopter because the camp wasn’t accessible by road and that cell phones, computers, or other electronic devices weren’t allowed, those doubts escalated. She feels better when they arrive and discovers the facilities are modern and comfortable, with beautiful grounds, a pool, sauna, an exercise facility said to be state of the art, and other amenities. When Ellie finds the body of one of the counselors in the sauna, Zoe’s sleuthing cap slipped on her head, and she immediately started looking for clues to see if foul play was involved. After the discovery of the body, things really get exciting!
