“Some scars are too deep to ever heal,” Leah Gabriella Allen whispered in hushed anguish.
The orphaned young woman knows all too well about scars — exposed as well as hidden deep within.
Gabriella naively falls in the thorny arms of the abusive Brent Sadler. The constant bruise of cruelty is ever present in their ten years of marriage.
One last momentous beating ends with two deaths and changes … deaths and changes Gabriella’s life forever. She stumbles away within an inch of her own life and begins a journey to an unexpected southern home which is none other than Lulu’s Café, where she tries to mend her severed spirit. Lulu is the petite charismatic southern belle, who wisely takes on the challenge of helping the young woman heal. She enlists the support of the enchanting southern gentleman, Crowley J. Mason IV, whose ocean blue eyes seem to hypnotize Leah (as they know her) from the start.
Leah is an unwanted stranger in Crowley’s quaint southern town of Rivertown, South Carolina. He holds her at arm’s length as he tries to decipher the mystery of her recent past, but before the young lawyer realizes it, he finds Leah tucked protectively in his arms. He wants nothing more than to help her heal… if she would just trust enough to let him in.

Family values is a great theme in Lulu’s Cafe. I enjoyed the characters and it was heartwarming that Lulu, though single, had six grandchildren she didn’t even have to share.
When I first started reading this book, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I have to say, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it despite the very heavy (and too real) beginning.
Speaking of, if abuse (of any kind—emotional, physical, sexual) are triggers for you, the first several chapters of this book are going to be painful. But there’s hope …
I really like this author. But I Couldn’t get into this book.
This was a wonderful story.
Wonderful way to take a tragedy and turn it into a blessing. very easy to know the characters and feel her pain and understand her life. so loved this book
Great reading. Couldn’t wait for the ending to be “Happy ever after.” Didn’t disappoint.
I think at the beginning this book portrays real life events for more people than we are aware of. The life of abuse that was inflicted on Gabby reads too real to not be true. The compassion that a caring worker gives to her is a turning point in her life and helps her regain a trust in life and in herself.
I was pulled into the story in the first few pages. The story portrays a very realistic picture of spousal abuse. The main character was soon fleeing for her life. Her experiences on the run were very interesting and demonstrated Gods care and leading.
A Sweet one minute, tear jerker the next, fictional story about a young woman who bounces through the foster system, into a horrible marriage, finally escaping hoping to find HOPE!!!!!
Love this story of second chances…great characters, good setting. Gives hope to those suffering domestic abuse.
Enjoyed this romance novel. Original plot better than most.
Very good story
This book still stays in my mind long after I’ve finished reading it. No one should have to live like this. Shows good people are still in this crazy world we live in. Very touching.
I loved everything about this book!
I LOVED this book! Recommended to my Mom & Sister! Wonderful characters, living everyday with God & struggles. I was inspired & encouraged on every page!
This is a well written book about domestic violence. I want to warn you right now that there is a lot of violence in the first part of the book and it was difficult to read. Once I got past that part, the book was a wonderful story about creating a family out of people you love and who care about you. It was a story of love and change and hope for the future.
Gabriella has bounced around in the foster care system her entire life. So when a handsome man asks her to marry him and moves her away to a wonderful home, she felt like her life had finally taken a turn for the better. That is, until he hit her the first time, locked her in a closet for days and punished her for anything he felt was an indiscretion on her part. After 10 long years of torture and abuse, she packs a bag and gets on a bus. She has cuts on her face and scars all over her body. She runs away to Rivertown, SC. where she doesn’t know anyone and isn’t sure how long she’ll stay. She changes her name to Leah. When she goes into Lulu’s Cafe for breakfast, Lulu sees the scars and realizes that she needs help and offers her a job and a place to live. She got more compassion from a total stranger than she had ever received from anyone in her life. As she tries to fit into life in Rivertown, she has to learn to leave her memories behind as she tries to find a better life and put herself back together. Exploring the resiliency of both the heart and the spirit, Lulu’s Cafe shows how love and family can heal old scars no matter how deep they seem.
This is a beautiful book about love and family and Leah is a character that I won’t soon forget.
T. I. Lowe is an author new to me. Leah (Gabriella) is a victim of domestic abuse. After a particularly violent episode, she flees to Rivertown, South Carolina. It was heart-wrenching to see Leah suffer through bouts of tears and gruesome memories. She enters the story with the belief that “some scars are too deep to ever heal.” Lulu, the proprietor of a cafe, offers Leah refuge, a job, and the encouragement to heal. I very much enjoyed reading Leah’s journey, watching her grow to recognize her own worth and learn to love again.
This was the first book I read by this author. Have read most of books since. Also got my husband to read it nd he really liked it too.
Wow this was a packed story. Drama, every emotional spectrum covered, hope, love, friendship, bullies, uplifting…and.the list goes on. Mrs. Lowe does an excellent job in telling this story. My heart broke for Leah and get I thought how strong she was. Somehow even in the darkness that was her life she learned to deal and survive. WOW!
Through a Doctor investing in her and sharing of the ONE who cares the most Leah found more strength. Her strength brought her to the east coast and she met Lulu who invested in her. She found her home. Crowley enters and with his entrance even I like Leah was wondering what he did. I loved him. What a champion to be willing to take on and fight Leah’s demons for her.
Once again it through a great talent and ability to write a story that wraps people up and pulls us in. I hated putting my kindle down I wanted.to finish this book and now I wished I had more. This is a book that I would re read. I HIGHLY recommend. Love it.
Lulu’s Cafe by T.I. Logan is a gut- heart wrenching, hard story to read because it deals with the bone-chilling, horrific issues of domestic violence and abuse that goes on everyday. It is the story of Leah who is battered and broken yet finally has the courage to go on the run and create a new life and identity for herself. The author did an outstanding job in creating the characters and showing their strength, resilience and determination. This is one of those books that will captivate and draw readers in from the very first page.
