This is the first book in a new series, and what an introduction this is. Luke and Emily have had to endure a horrendous situation which they had to endure, and this has bonded them through life. Title: Luke
Author: Madison Quinn
Genre: Contemporary Romance/Suspense
**RECEIVED ARC FOR AN HONEST REVIEW**
To start let me say this book has potential triggers of abuse, kidnapping, and rape. Now those scenes are not done in a lot of detail but enough is there that you get the picture. The author not only had to set the scene but develop the main characters so enough details were given that even though much is left to the imagination, not everything is.
Honestly I like Luke and Emily as teenagers more so than adults. Sure they are meeting after 10 years but to me it feels like the author put so much into developing the bonds that will bind Luke and Emily forever that when they meet again and try to get to know adult Luke and Emily they seem bored. Or maybe the story fizzles. Let me tell you that whole plot twist starting at about 70%…Seriously? You couldn’t come up with anything better? I swear the best story telling happened when they were kids. I think that ended around 30% or 40%. Then it switched to them as primarily adults.
Another thing, the editing wasn’t that great. There are missing words, too many words, incorrect words used in sentences. It happens enough that at times it detracts from the story.
Overall…3/5 stars.
An exceptionally well told dark, romance that you can’t put down. This is the story of Luke and Emily kidnapped and tortured for more than 7 months when they were both teenagers. Escaping and learning to move past this dark time has been the focus for each of them over the last ten years. But one day their paths cross again when Emily begins working for Luke, he finds himself struggling to accept that Emily is quite what she first seems. As a hidden danger surfaces Luke might just be willing to risk it all for a chance at happiness with Emily. A dark, strong, second chance romance that will keep you reading well past bedtime.
Loved the storyline and the characters are well written. They draw you into their world and keep you hooked until the end.
This is the first book in the Dark Water Security Series. Luke and Emily are deep characters with painful back stories. This book starts so dark and suspenseful but as the story builds, so too does the love and the light.

My first read from this author and I did enjoy it it. I would read more in this series.
I really enjoyed the way this author framed out the book. Oftentimes a character’s tragic past is touched on, but not fully fleshed out, and I though Madison Quinn gave us just enough detail to understand why the experience would continue to resonate 10 years later without getting too graphic. I found myself rooting for Luke to get his happy ending from page one and was drawn to Emily as well. I was also left intrigued by several of the supporting characters who I hope will get to tell their own story some day. My one disappointment is with the abrupt ending to the story; I feel like there could have been a little more to wrap up the story.
He is still coping with the pain from the last when he had been kidnapped by a cruel.man.when his partner wants to hire a woman who reminds him of a girl who stole his heart. He wonders what is going on. Is she the girl from his past? See how it will end

This is an amazing read!!! If you have read Madison’s other 2 books this one has a darker story but it isn’t too dark. At the beginning my heart broke for Luke, and I am glad he had Emily. It then fast forwards 10 years and they still had just a strong of a connection!! Be prepared this is a book you will not want to put down!!! I can’t wait to see what Madison has in store for her readers!!!!
I found this to be a very enjoyable read. It had me under its spell from beginning to end. An entertaining story-line and great characters keep your interest extremely well. The chemistry, sweetness, and twists in plot kept things very interesting. Add in drama and steamy passion and you have a good read.,

This is a 2nd chance romance about Luke & Emily! Luke and Emily meet 10 years prior when they are both kidnapped and Luke saves her and gets her out of that situation well 10 years past and Luke has a security company helping families and em has found her first love and she wants to work for him but will he be mad when she just shows up and someone is following our girl! Will these two have their HEA?
Luke is the first instalment of the Dark Water Security series. A contemporary romance that deals with some dark and disturbing issues, it had me hooked from the very first chapter. While it’s a lot darker than I normally go for, I absolutely loved this story and the characters we meet. Luke and Emily have a connection so strong that it’s believable, despite this being a short and intense read. If you like your romances with added danger, this is a must read for you.
The book opens in a dark place, with Luke held prisoner at the hands of a violent and unrelenting monster. Forced to fit for his life, Luke has all but given up hope of ever escaping. So when his rebellion causes an innocent, fifteen-year old girl to join him in captivity, he puts every last ounce of strength in finding a way to free them both. Ten years later and Luke has made a life himself. A distinguished army service and now running a private security firm, the last thing he needs is to be thrown into the past. Seeing him work with Emily again is so addictive. I was hooked on reading their scenes together and seeing the chemistry fly. Emily is a very different person to the one he remembers, and seeing her so strong was empowering after everything she has been through.
If fear and danger is what you’re looking for, this book ticks all of the boxes. It starts and ends with Emily in hot water, so be prepared for a rollercoaster read. The story deals with some difficult themes, so expect some hard to read moments, especially at the start of the book. The author writes these really well, being respectful but realistic at the same time. Like I said, this is darker than I normally read but I absolutely loved it and will definitely be recommending it to others.
Luke is the first book in the Dark Water Security series. This book can be read as a standalone. There is some subject matter that may be a trigger for some readers.
I got hooked from the beginning. Even though the story is a bit predictable, it is still entertaining; and I read it in a couple of hours because I couldn’t put it down. The characters are well written and you really find yourself empathizing with Luke’s character. After everything he goes through, he still finds a way to be the person for others that he needed when he was young.
The only thing that could have made this even better was a bit of a stronger ending.
Luke by Madison Quinn is the first book in the Dark Water Security Series. This book covers some fairly dark themes and may not be suitable for all readers. However, if you are ok with this then you really should give this book a try!
This book was such an emotional one, it was deep and gritty and really knows how to sink it’s claws into you. The opening throws you straight in, leaving you gasping to keep up with everything going on. You know immediately that you are in for a serious ride.
As the first book I have read by this author it has introduced me to someone I will definitely have to check out in more depth.
Luke was a great 5 star read and book one of the Dark Water Security.
We start the story with Luke at a young age being tormented and beaten. If he doesn’t win fights his beatings get worse. My heart broke for what he went through. When his tormentor doesn’t think the beatings are enough he brings in someone else that will be beaten in his place. This is when he meets Em. They develop a close friendship and love for each other.
What if I’m tired of surviving?
After their escape we jump ahead a few years. Luke is now a partner in Dark Water Security. He thinks about Em all the time, wondering where she is, if she has a family, etc.. When he meets a friend of his partner that will be assisting in some cases, he is taken back to memories of Em. Could she be his Emily? Can they find the love they once had?
Emily was a fighter just as much as Luke was, they were meant to be brought together to help each other get through this terrible ordeal. Both of them used their experience to help others instead of going down a dark hole. The secondary characters added a great element to the story. I will warn that there are some scenes that may be triggers for some. Madison Quinn does a great job of pulling you in with her writing. I can’t wait to read more from this series.
Luke (Dark Water Security Series Book 1) by Madison Quinn is one heart stomping read. OMG this story broke my heart and had the tears flowing. This is my first book by Ms Madison and I am absolutely blown away. Warning this story may cause triggers. I fell in love with our main characters Luke and Emily and wanted to take out the person who hurt them. This story is dark and oh so raw and my god I can not stop thinking about it, which just goes to show it is worth the read. It is a highly emotional read full of pain and suffering, angst and terror, deceit and horrors you can only dream about. It is well written and the wonderful characters are well developed and multi layered. I read this book in one sitting, I was so invested and there is so much going on in this book and there was never a time that I wanted to put it down. There was no way and I mean no way that I could put it down until I knew the outcome. I also had to remember to breathe, just this simple action was sometimes hard to remember as I was so emotionally into this book.
I will not tell you about the story, I will let you discover it all on your own but as I said before it may cause triggers to some people.
I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series and see what happens next.
