Captivating action-filled suspenseful romance story from the Dark Water Security series. Amazing connection with the characters. It is a well-written book, I enjoyed reading. It was a pleasure to review.
I’m shaking my head in disbelief that the book is already finished. This gripping tale captivated me from beginning to end. The main characters were relatable and flawed. The story had a natural ebb and flow. It was an emotional rollercoaster that my heart couldn’t let go of until the last page was read. It was beautifully written and sets up a riveting universe to continue expanding through a series. Extremely well written.
Luke, by Madison Quinn, is the first book in the Dark Water Security series. This contemporary military romance was absolutely riveting! The past influences so much of this story and the way the author laid out this story was beautifully done despite the raw, emotional and difficult topics that are brought into the story. Luke is one of the main characters of this story and he exudes protectiveness with his past determining strong parts of his personality and his stance on many topics. Enter Emily who is her own unique, determined and strong character. There is something about her that draws Luke to her. This story if full of drama, intense chemistry, and discussion of turning points in their lives, along with defining moments. This is one heck of an intro to the series and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next to see what Madison Quinn brilliantly comes up with next!
Luke ( Dark Water Security Series Book 1) by Madison Quinn. This is the story of Luke & Emily, two teenagers who were thrown together under horrible circumstances. 10 years later they meet up at a job interview, Emily is trying to get a job with Luke’s company, Dark Water Security. They have always had a wonderful chemistry and Luke has always been in love with Em but can he get over his past and what he thinks he caused. Luke is such a strong character who has overcome so much in his young life but he has trouble getting over his past and thinking he deserves happiness. Will he let Em back in so they can have a chance at the happiness they so much deserve? This book is very deep at the beginning, some things happen that are horrible but if you can get through it the story is wonderful. I loved this book and can’t wait to read more of this series.
I enjoyed every moment of this story with some steamy scenes and intricate solutions in the end as they sort out some challenging scenarios in their relationship
Emily & Luke were teenagers kidnapped and held captive together for 7 months until they were able to escape from their abuser. Social workers and their therapist then convinced them not to get in touch with each other and they moved on -as much as any victim can.
When Luke’s Security firm hires on a new ‘hacker’ and they go on a rescue mission together, all the memories come back to the forefront yet he feels attracted to her.
Madison Quinn takes the reader on an emotional journey with the struggles, emotions and coping mechanisms of victims as well as the power of love within this all. She draws one into the book bringing out feelings and captivating the reader.

Luke by Madison Quinn is a great read. This is the first book in the Dark Water Security Series. This is the story of Luke and Emily. They both had suffered in their pasts. The beginning of the book is very dark, telling what happened to them when they were younger but then the book lightens up some. Despite what has happened to them they had moved on. Because of what happened to him Luke started Dark Water Security to help other children who are in the same circumstances he was in when he was younger. Emily works for Luke. Their friendship turns into love. This book has twists and turns, angst, suspense, and action. I definitely recommend this book. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
I loved it!. It was a little dark in the beginning but it just help show what kind of character Luke is and the fighter he has become. He feels guilty over doing what he needed to with Emily but when she starts working for him, anything could happen. I loved their chemistry and how protective of each other they were. Also the strength to help others with the security company. No doubt, they took me on an emotional ride full of laughter, tears and compassion. Their story is a must read!
I wanted to reach in and give Luke the biggest hug and never let go. While both he and Emily endured a nightmare of a situation, he seemed to have it rough all the way around. He proved to be such a fighter in more ways than one to overcome the difficult hand he was dealt and made it into something where he was helping others through Dark Water Security.
Emily also had me wanting to hug her too. She also used her experience as motivation to help others so that they maybe wouldn’t have to endure what she did.
The other characters introduced have just enough about them that have me so interested in their stories but it didn’t take away from Luke and Emily. They were definitely in the spotlight.
I can’t wait for more from the Dark Water Security Series.
Luke (Dark Water Security Series Book 1)
By: Madison Quinn
5 out of 5 stars
The story Luke (Dark Water Security Series Book 1) by Madison Quinn is a contemporary romance book. It is a story that I enjoyed reading and once I started, I found myself lost in its pages. I loved reading about the character of Luke. He is someone who shows himself to be confident, strong, and has a need to help others. He also is a man whose memories haunt him. He feels guilt and blames himself for what happened in the past. I found myself empathizing with Luke the more that I read about what he had been through. He is a character that I grew to care about and believed that he deserves to be happy. A new employee that his partner wants to hire brings back reminders of a young girl who stole his heart. He feels an attraction and pull towards her. There is passion and desire. Can Luke stop seeing her has a reminder of the past? Do they have a future? Read this book to find out. The woman that Luke has an attraction for is beautiful and talented. She is also a character that I grew to care about as the story progressed. This story has heartbreaking scenes, times that I felt anger with what was going on and then other times when I could feel the attraction between the two main characters. From the highs to the lows, my emotions went up and down with the characters. There are other secondary characters that are introduced, and I found myself wanting to know more about them. This book has a smooth flow to it and kept my interest until I had read the last page.
This was one of Madison’s best originals. Her characters are deep and intense and survivors. They go through hell but come out strong in the end. A smoldering sexy Luke fought for him and Emily to survive then he fought his demons to be with her.
(Review with spoilers)
Great story. I loved it.
I don’t know how to talk about the book without revealing the whole story. I’ll try.
Luke suffered too much during his adolescence. No one should suffer like that. He could only find comfort in one person. She was his light, and he would have done anything to keep her safe. But they had to separate. It was the only way, so she wouldn’t suffer. And he could not forget her.
Emily also suffered. Separated from everyone, she decides to start a new life, and starts working for Luke.
It has been painful to read all that Luke suffered. No one deserves that. It also hurts to know that he blames herself for what happened to Emily. It’s not his fault. He protected her, took care of her the best he could, sent her home. He’s a good man.
He was lost, he didn’t know how to become a person again, but he did. His work gives him the opportunity to help people that no one would help. He doesn’t want anyone to suffer like he did.
It also hurts to read what Emily suffered, and how she underestimates herself at first. She thinks she’s not strong, not like Luke. If she could endure so much and be compassionate, she must be. Endure and fall in love, both of them.
She doesn’t blame him for what happened. How could she, if he took care of her? She, like him, helped other people that were suffering.
I loved Luke and Emily. They both wanted to protect the other, to take care. They suffered, but at the same time they took care of themselves, they comforted the other when they needed it. Sometimes they didn’t even need words for it. One gesture was enough.
I loved to see them fall in love when they were teenagers. It wasn’t the best time, but they really loved each other. They would have given their lives for the other. And I would have preferred them to know each other in a different way.
I didn’t like her lying to him, but I understand why she did it.
I loved seeing them talk about the past, clarify things between them. They had a lot to say to each other, and they hadn’t been able to until now. They couldn’t stop thinking about each other. They didn’t want another in their lives.
I recommend it.
I received an ARC from the author, and this is my honest review.
Triggers- beating, skirts around rape of a 16 year old teenage Luke, Emily 15 and Luke 16 underage sex.
Beginning was dark friendship/ prisoners between Luke and Emily, he was held for 10 months prior to when Emily gets kidnapped and thrown in with Luke in a pitch black basement. Luke was their kidnapper’s fighting pet/prisoner and Emily was the reason Luke had to keep winning and protect even when their kidnapper’s friends came over and raped Luke. 7 months Emily was held with Luke before Luke finally came up with an escape plan.
10 years later Luke is co owner of a security company withi a military buddy Alec. Emily maybe the same Em of his dark timesor maybe someone new this life. Chapter 20 when we find out if Emily is his Em or not, from their escape to now it was boring and they kept skirting around what they feel towards the other. I had to skip around and when I did nothing actually has even happen just following a father that kidnapped his kids from his cheating ex wife. That’s it until chapter 20. The. We have Emily with a stalker months or weeks after the reveal and Luke has been distant since up till when she needs a hide out from the stalker. Not really what I would want in a dark story, it’s tame after the escape.
I absolutely loved it. It started off with a storyline that is dark so I wasn’t sure as to where it would go and I wasn’t sure if I was going to like the book. As I read it Became much more that I originally thought. Luke and Emily met because of horrific means. However Through the dark beginning they formed a remarkable trust, friendship with love developed betwee the, What they endured together made them who they are as adults. As the story advances they meet again, though unknown by Luke, but he is so drawn to her for some unknown reason that he was unable to determine. That 1st love was pulling him to her not even knowing it was his Emily. This book has some dark content early on but develops into a story about endurance and love. There is angst, suspense, action and most of all enduring love. Luke was simply a great read! I am looking forward to the future books in this series. What a story of strength, perserverence and love.
This is the first title I have read by this author but won’t be the last! I absolutely loved this book!!
Luke is so broken and no matter how hard he tries, he can’t forget the past. The girl who saved him all those years ago.
Emily hides behind her computer. After what she went through in the past, she doesn’t leave much room for someone to get to her.
I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait for the next book in this series!!
When past and present meet, its not a coincidence. I think fate kept them together under the best and worst circumstances. Everything they went through together will bind them for life. Just eye opening and refreshing at the same time. Sensitive subject matter tastefully writen.

The book is a good romantic suspense read. The story has a good story line, and the story is a well written read. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry. The story is about trust, friendship, and love in a bad environment read.

Luke
Dark Water Security Series Book 1
Madison Quinn
An amazing story!! This story was horrifying and amazing at turns. The resilience of the characters in the story was perfect. When they see each other after ten years and Luke just feels that he knows Emily but does not recognize her from that horrible time in his childhood. You just bite your lip at times and cry, and have such hope at others. The hallmarks of a great book. It wrings you out for sure. Loved it!!
