Not every love story begins with a fiery explosion of lust. Some are tiny embers of hope that smoulder slowly until the stars align… until the bubble burst.
It let in danger.
It let in light.
It let in…him.
Unknowingly I’d been living in the dark, feeling my way.
He filled my world with starlight.
He showed me how to move on to the next level.
He made me feel again.
I thought the wounds from the past would never fully heal,
But perhaps they only heal when the time is right.
Sometimes you just have to thank your lucky scars.

I really enjoyed this book. I’m new to reading this author’s work and Lucky Scars has left me wanting to read more. This is a story of love and loss and wanting to move on with life but finding it hard to do so. The book kept my attention from the very beginning. I really wanted to know where the story was going and the reasons behind why the characters made the choices that they did. Bea, Ziggy and Jonathan were fabulous characters and I recommend that you pick up this book and enjoy their story.
I am flayed open emotionally right now. This was not what I was imagining going in, but I should have known better having read other books from Kerry.
Bea has been living with the guilt of a lifetime and shut herself off from any possibility of any type of personal life due to that tragedy. Then comes the faithful meeting of Jonathan and his flat whites and then the spilling of said flat white onto Ziggy.
Jonathan and I had a love-hate relationship throughout his role in this story. I wanted to smack him and high-five him at times for helping push Bea into the rest of her life.
Ziggy, oh my glorious Ziggy. How I fell in love with my Starman. He was the friend Bea needed when she didn’t know she needed one so desperately. His own grief in life was beyond heartbreaking. There are times when you feel for a character and others where you want to reach through the pages/screen and just comfort them – Zig was that for me.
“All you see are scars. You need someone to make you see stars.”
This book makes me want to see the stars in those I love even more. It reminds you that everyone has faults, but so do you, and it is what you do with those faults and how you become stronger that defines you.
This is the first book I’ve read by Kerry Heavens. I can’t say how much I absolutely loved this book. Bea and Ziggy are wonderful together. This is a great friends to lovers story with a wonderful slow burn. I had such a great time reading it, that I didn’t want it to end. It was fabulous.

When I started reading I couldn’t put it down.Kerry Heavens is magnifysent writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book.
Bea is closed off to even the idea of men or dating. She’s been there and lost her heart and just doesn’t want to put herself in that position again. Until, in one day she bumps into two men who help her to see that she was completely closing herself off from life.
“…this guy, who I’d seen before multiple times, suddenly notices me because I’m dressed all fancy. Before I know what’s happening, he sex fogs me and buys my coffee.”
“The bastard!”
“I know, right?”
“Wait, sex fog?”
“You know, looks amazing, smells amazing, overloads your senses with his amazingness to disarm you and moves in for the kill. Kind of like a smoke grenade but with CK One”
Lucky Scars has all the feels you want in an emotional love story plus so much cute and fun banter.
“Please, that’s only three stalker levels under, ‘I’d like to see more of you, but you keep closing your curtains.’”
Lucky Scars was one of those books that was just easy and enjoyable to read. I didn’t want to put it down from page one til the end and finished it all in one day.
-4 Stars-
I’m counting my lucky stars that I discovered this book because it was a whirlwind of perfection and beautiful, heartfelt words. Kerry Heavens is a new to me author, but after experiencing pure joy and heartache and every emotion in between whilst reading this book, it most certainly won’t be my last.
I really love that social perceptions are challenged throughout this book, especially in regards to gender. It makes it an incredibly empowering read, and the love between these characters filled me up with all the starlight possible. The imagery, foreshadowing, everything was just INCREDIBLE. I’m head over heels in love with this utterly unique storytelling and can’t wait to binge everything Kerry Heavens’ ever published. Seriously, that addictive!
Excuse me whilst I go one click all her books and spend a while hibernating and binge reading them all. Heavens is a hidden gem and I can’t wait for her eloquently written stories to take over the world, one bookworm at a time.
This book started out as something I would totally fall in love with. It was a series of unfortunate, yet genuine events while Bea finds herself in the midst of two new men in her life. She has sworn off relationships, but finds herself smack dab in the middle of choosing from two different men.
I loved Ziggy, and the extremely slow burn his relationship brought to the table between him and Bea. Every time I thought they would hit a tipping point I was wrong.
Ziggy and Bea find themselves on an emotional roller-coaster ride full of friendship, grief, and heartbreak, and I have to admit each second kept me completely engaged the whole time. It’s definitely a very emotional read, and I think it’s safe to give a warning of needing some tissues and some “me time” after this book. I want to wrap Ziggy and Bea in the biggest group hug ever for everything they went through. I really enjoyed this book-this author has created a very beautiful story and I’m excited to read her other titles! – By Victoria
This was an emotional read about some very serious and sad characters. It was a slow start but sucked you in and made you hope these star crossed lovers work out their issues and get their happily ever after.
The book starts with the main character having a crisis in Starbucks, which sets up a series of events that change two lives. This is a story of people who have to overcome some deep emotions from their past in order to move on and enjoy and live their lives. I liked how there were two love interests for Bea and both have pros and cons.
Bea is our main character. She’s a strikingly smart woman in charge of her own company. Her love interests are Jonathon and Ziggy. Jonathon is a swanky business man who saw Bea dressed as the same and made some assumptions. Ziggy is a kindred spirit to Bea, sharing a love for her company and it’s possibilities. Bea and Ziggy have some complicated backstory that keeps their characters and the plot slow and standoffish in the beginning of the book. But by halfway through, some of the soul crushing details are brought to light, and the reader gets brought into the loop. I didn’t love the slow intro, but it worked with the writing style and delivery of details. And Bea’s family made me love and adore the village that surrounds her.
“Not every love story begins with a fiery explosion of lust. Some are tiny embers of hope that smoulder.” I liked how there was a bit of mystery for Bea, will Jonathon or Ziggy be the one to bring her into the life and light? When she finally makes her connection, it’s with beautiful scenes and friendship to love. Both men bring hope and sparks to Bea’s life.
This book really made me think how I’d have to deal with the same situations Bea and Ziggy were forced to endure. I had a hard time keeping interested in the book in the first third, but my perseverance paid off and the author pulled me in for the last half. There were some amazing lines that kept me turning the page, and hoping beyond hope that each character could find their happy.
“All you see are scars. You need someone to make you see stars.” I loved all the details that made this book amazing. It really made you think, it wasn’t just a fluffy happily ever after sex ’em up romance. And despite that, there was a happily ever after and a great read.
