WHAT!! What did I just read? My head is still spinning! Lucky Number 23 by Krystle Able is an AMAZING thriller. It’s very dark and intense and so many twists – I couldnt put it down and was on the edge of my seat. Loved how the whole book was written. The cliffhanger ending with a twist I definitely did NOT see coming
I hope there is a second novel and cant wait to dive back in!
Wait, what just happened? Ivy is in a half way house and in mandated therapy. She’s weeks from being free and is dead set on getting back to the only family she remembers. Bounced between foster homes from ages 6-8, Ivy finds herself sent to the McCourts where she stays for 4 years until she is ripped away from them and life spirals from there. I can’t really say anymore because I don’t want to give anything away. This book has twists and turns and WTF moments all through it. The only thing that would have liked would be to have more detailed scenes with young Ivy and Dr. John. I want to know more about those years. I’m assuming by the way the book ended there will be a book 2, so I cannot wait!!
So I gotta be honest and say I didn’t have a clue what was going throughout most of this book. I didn’t really connect with Ivy at all. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because of the psychosocial aspect of it. It is weird and disturbing on all levels. I couldn’t believe some of things they said and did in this book. I seriously can’t believe I finished this book. It was a struggle.
This book will leave you wondering what happened and what you just read. It is very twisty and dark. Ivy (Lucky 23) is living in a halfway house and has to talk to a counselor. She remembers her life with the McCort’s as great. It was the best foster family she lived with, and she can’t believe the things she is hearing about them. She doesn’t remember big parts of her childhood, and then she starts having some dreams. She is determined to get back to her family and where she felt the safest and loved. There are so many twists and turns in this book. It did keep me captivated and turning the pages. But wow, the ending really had me going, I did not see this coming at all, but it put a lot of things in perspective for me, but I also have questions about others, so wondering if there will be another book to follow.
Wow! Amazing , mind twisting, dark genius! This book is totally not what you think it is! Do not skip to the end!!! Wonderfully written.
Ivy Lane is currently living in a half-way house after being arrested for stealing many times. When she was 8 years old she lived as a foster child with the McCourt family and was told she was “Lucky #23”. But when Dr. John McCourt is charged with the murder of many girls she is taken away.
Ivy believes that the McCourt family was innocent and she wants to return to the family as soon as she can but her therapist, Dr.Newmann wants her to face the truth about the family.
What lengths is Ivy willing to go to in order to return to the only place she thought of as home?
This was a super interesting book with many twists and turns that I was not expecting!!
Ivy was such an interesting character, especially with her addiction to stealing things. She caused so many problems at the half-way house and she really enjoyed stirring things up. I did feel bad that she truly struggled with the idea that Dr. John killed so many girls and that it happened when she was there.
In a way I wasn’t surprised at what Ivy did to escape as she was desperate to get “home”. I was shocked at what was happening at Ivy’s home and what she discovered there. It wasn’t what I expected to a certain degree.
Ivy was still almost living in a fantasy world and it took her so long to convince someone who she was and then I was surprised at what happened after the two got together.
I was really surprised at who showed up and everything that happened after that. I feel like more is coming as I feel like I didn’t get enough answered about the whole thing.
I was surprised at what was revealed about Ivy’s true parents.
Looking forward to more!
This book will keep you guessing all the way through! Every time I thought I knew , BAM! Major twist! This was one thriller that kept me in a constant state of WTF!?!?
This is a very intense story!
It goes beyond dark and twisted…..
If you enjoy visiting the dark side then this story is for you, brilliant writing that will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat throughout the entire story!!
Oh my gosh. This book is so twisted it keeps you guessing. You think you know something then bam a right hook. If you like dark this is a great book for you. You get mystery, suspense, a thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. There were times i kept saying “what the hell”.
WTF did I just read!!!! I mean that in a good way too. This book is so f*d up. About halfway to 75% through I realized that we were witnessing life through the person’s POV that had the multiple personality type of disorder. What happens at the end will have you baffled. Such a well written story. It pulled me in and left me wanting more with every turn of the page.
This was one twisted ride that I didn’t much care for. I’m not one for dark reads so it was definitely not for me.
This book was everything I look for in a thriller. Full of twists and turns. And just when I thought I had it figured out, I was blindsided! Great read that kept me on the edge of my seat!
It’s been awhile since I’ve read a psychological thriller. I was so glued to the pages of this book and this book stuck to me long after I finished. Ivy the main character has such an unusual thought process that I found myself trying to figure out what she would do next. The fact that she can only remember bits of her childhood are very telling but that’s all I’m saying.
Ivy is waiting to return to the foster home that she knows from her childhood. As she prepares to return she has disturbing dreams. Was her childhood really as she happy as she remembers.
This is a dark and twisted thriller. My review won’t be long because this is the type of book that you need to go into with out to much information. You need to savor every secret and twist and turn. The twists will keep you guessing and then comes the ending. I didn’t even suspect what happened.
Will keep you turning the pages and then leave you with the WTH feeling at the end.
Wow! As my daughter says, “dark & twisty”! I did not see the plot twist at the end coming my way! Not for the faint of heart! Not my usual reading material; but I could not put it down! Worth the read!
Ivy Lane “Lucky 23” is clearly struggling with memory loss and confusion about what are her real memories and what are not. Ultimately she’s suffering one long psychological torture experiment. You think you know who is behind it all, but the story twists and turns until the end. It was… interesting, confusing, and dark, but not as good as I’d hoped… It does not seem as though the story is over. I’m doubt I’ll be reading the next book.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat! The ending kind of upset me though. If there’s gonna be a 2nd book then I can understand the ending. However, there was no indication of there being a sequel. This was a very interesting book though. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
OMG, I can not stop thinking about this book!! This one was extremely dark, twisted, creepy and mysterious and I could not put it down once I started it!! I have never in my life read a book like this and I am so glad I took the chance on this one. This one is not for the faint of heart but so well worth the read. I would love to see what’s going on this authors head because it would be so fascinating!!
Flipping fish sticks this book really intrigued me this little girl moves in with a weird foster family that experiments on girls and lucky is pretty messed up from It but will she recover from it? And what secrets are this foster fam holding out?
Wow! That was a dark and twisted read! A bit mind boggling. Wow! Different than what I would normally read. Interesting concept. Very dark.
