Everyone Has a Hidden Talent
For Lucky O’Toole it’s murder…solving it.
Surviving in Sin City takes cunning, a pair of five-inch heels, and a wiseass attitude. Lucky has mastered them all and has a pair of legs she uses to kick butt and turn heads.
As the Chief Problem Solver for the Babylon, Las Vegas’s most over-the-top destination, mischief is in her job description.
She’s good at her job.
She’s less good at life. But who has time for a life when there’s a killer on the loose?
Light, funny, romantic mysteries providing a Vegas escape appropriate for anyone looking for a good laugh.
AN INTERVIEW WITH DEBORAH COONTS
Why did you decide to write humor?
I’m not sure I decided to add snark to the Lucky, books, specifically to Lucky’s own voice, it just happened that way. When I was a kid, my mouth always got me into trouble. Finally, I’ve found a way to harness the sarcasm for the Forces of Good—or at least in a way not to anger my grandmother. And when Lucky started talking to me, she had a strong dose of sass in her.
The Lucky O’Toole Vegas Adventure series is hard to categorize. Is that by design?
When I set out to write Wanna Get Lucky?, I knew I wanted to write a romp through Las Vegas. I had the characters and the setting but no real understanding of narrative drive. So, I threw a young woman out of a tour helicopter into the middle of the Pirate Show and let the story unfold. A bit of murder to keep the plot moving, some wisecracking and Vegas mischief to make you laugh, and some romance to keep it interesting. A bit of a mash up, but it works.

“Deborah Coonts…entrusts the sleuthing to a brainy beauty who sees the lighter side of human folly.” – New York Times Book Review

“A whirlwind of a kooky crime novel, and readers will enjoy every minute of it. Coonts provides the perfect solution for readers waiting for the next Stephanie Plum book.” – Booklist

The author is at some pains to describe a tough, resourceful main character in the first half of the book, but changes the characteristics of said main character in the second half of the book, making for a somewhat unsatisfactory story. Also, the main character’s love interest is unconvincing and unengaging at the very best. I am not interested in reading another story about such a wishy-washy main character. IMO, if you create a main character, you live with that main character through the book. Not so in this case.
too slow moving did not finish
Fun book to read, great writing.
Fun series. Light beach reading even without a beach.
Not as funny as the review suggested. Heroine repeated her problems too much, and the mystery wasn’t very mysterious.
Slow
Cute in some ways, but unnecessary language.
Not my favorite but ok
It was poorly written. I never finished it.
An interesting and most likely accurate view of Las Vegas life. Author must know the area well.
I did not finish reading it due to the language i. The book. Very disappointing. I would not recommend it
Ok book interesting characters.
Lots of fun in both books. Well worth the time for a light read.
Seemed like a stereotypical who done it. The only difference was the main investigator was a woman. Not worth the time.
I’ve read them all, hope the Author writes more about Lucky!
Always interested in what might upset Luckys world next. Characters are interesting
It was fun to read. Interesting characters. Sort of off the wall but fun.
Always enjoy her books! Once more, you never know what’s going to happen next!
I thought it was boring. Too much unnecessary information about Vegas. Not the funny read that I was looking for. Moved very slowly. I more or less Quick read through many portions of the book or skipped over them entirely. I will not read any more books in this series.
This is a great book for when you need some light escape. I find in this time of constant violence and distasteful politics, I am all burnt out and need this kind of fun. I tend to be attracted to more action and noir, etc, but I also like Janet Evanovich and authors like this one who can just show you a good and funny time.
