Warning: This series is a COMPLETED slow to mid-burn Reverse Harem Urban Fantasy with lots of action and some hot romance. There will be multiple F-bombs, violence, and explicit sexual situations. If you need a trigger warning, then this probably isn’t the series for you. If you can handle some grit in your stories, then go ahead and one-click because this one won’t disappoint! We’ve all heard … We’ve all heard the story of the Four Horsemen. Harbingers of the apocalypse. Destruction given form. Four of the sexiest—wait no—forget that. You get my point.
So imagine my surprise when I find out everything I’ve ever been told, is a lie.
But we’re getting ahead of ourselves here. Let’s start from the beginning.
My name is Ruby Morningstar. I run a tattoo parlor in Portland with my bestfriend, have a pet raccoon, a crazy ex that stalks me, not to mention this one little thing… I’m a demon. Half-succubus, to be exact. For the last twenty-three years of my life, that’s the story I believed, but on the day a handsome stranger bails me out of jail my world is turned upside down, and suddenly I don’t know who I am anymore.
Because the Four Horsemen aren’t the bringers of the apocalypse.
I am.
Talk about never catching a break.

I fell in love with this author with her Daizlei Academy series and boy does this book blow those away! Ruby is a very independent, strong willed character that is also hilarious with her snarky comments. I love her sassy pet raccoon Bandit!!I can not wait to see what the next book Wicked Games has in store for Ruby and her four horsemen!
I had this audiobook in my library since the big audible sale and I wanted something different than what I had been reading/listening to and I was not disappointed! I don’t know what I didnt listen to these sooner, but I am so glad I finally did . I loved Ruby and these characters, they were a breath of fresh air, with all the snark included hahaha. I enjoyed Moira and Ruvy’s relationship, also Bandit was hilarious and adorable! I liked the faster pace with the fated grouping/bonds, but liked that the sexy time wasn’t as fast. She takes her time letting the guys in, especially given her tough past and the events she has to go through just in book 1. I was happy to see the karmic justice to Josh and the imp, not gonna lie. I was intrigued to see how Ruby would transition with beast/inner demon and what powers she would get as the series went on. So after book 1, Rysten was definitely my favorite and then came Allistair. I was on the fence with Julian which was what Kel was going for hahaha because he was so stubborn and uptight when it came to Ruby and the other Horsemen. BTW those new covers….definitely going to get this series in paperback as well
In terms of the narration, I have listened to Hollie Jackson before and she did a good job. I thought she was fabulous with the women voices and inflections, those performances were stellar throughout the whole series. With her guy performances, there were some bumps for me. Book 1 was the best I think, but some of the accents became ambiguous as the series went on (in terms of British or Aussie for some of the guys haha). Only critique from me, which is why I gave it a 4/5 stars for the performance.
Overall really like this book and devoured the rest of the series over the week. Definitely recommend, on point with other Kel work. I hope she continues to write all types of books because I love all kinds, but her RH ones are fabulous
The book ended quicker than what I was ready for!
I found this book as a suggestion from Facebook. Clicking on the preview on amazon brought the story to the front of my mind. I did not expect to automatically be consumed by the story. I was in the middle of another book when I read the preview. After that, I could not focus on the other book without thinking of this one.
I am glad I chose to read this. It was well written and attention grabbing! The only thing that really sucks were the feelings triggered after reading what Ruby had to go through for this story. Yes, she may be a fictional character but, fictional or not, she went through something no-one should ever have to go through. It was heartbreaking and horrific. This can be very triggering for most since it is something that quite often happens but not many speak on it. My heart goes out to her and all those that have experienced something similar in the real world. This book might not be for everyone, but it really has incredible world building and amazing characters! I may have reached the ending faster than I would have liked but I am up for book 2. This book is worth the read!
This is the first reverse harem I’ve ever read. I was skeptical, but I had heard good things, so I read it. It was amazing! I finished the series, 4 books complete this series, withing 4 days. There is a witty, snarky female lead, who owns her own tattoo parlor, with her best friend and roommate, who is not human. Demons are not out in this world. I love the sex scenes, but even more, I love the building of intimacy and trust between Ruby and the four horseman. It is difficult enough maintaining monogamous relationships, let alone 4 at once. I love the play between Earth and Hell. I love the wit and insecurity and sass of all the characters. I fully recommend this series.
Overall rating: 4
First, this is for readers who don’t mind mature content, strong language or reverse harem alongside dark humor. That’s right….it’s a read meant for those that open these pages knowing they will encounter these factors. With that said, I really enjoyed the off the wall humor and the plight of poor ( I say that loosely) Ruby. Parts of this remind me heavily of the TV series, Lucifer, but with this authors own storyline. I want to send a shout out for not doing an insta love scenario! Truly feel this author did an outstanding job with the build up. For some readers this might move too slow for you, but there are many who enjoy a slower build up. All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
Book review of Lucifer’s Daughter by Kel Carpenter …
This was a good book. I received it as gift as part of a multi-author contest. It was a great premise of the Hell/Earth ruler of demons story. The characters were engaging and interesting and I am genuinely looking forward to the next book!
Never read anything from Kel Carpenter before but I am official hooked! I think I read this in almost one sitting. (sadly work got in the way from finishing same day) As part succubus, Ruby has limited her interactions with humans to protect, not only the humans she may encounter but herself, as well. She has a best friend who is a banshee, a raccoon who adopted her, and four handsome men who have suddenly appeared in her life, claiming she is Lucifer’s Daughter. But she’s just a ½ demon, even her momma didn’t want…right?
World building adventure with a great cast of characters to keep the blood pumping and anxiety high. Definitely looking forward to diving into the next book in this series. You should too!
What caught my eye about this book was first, it was set in my home city, Portland Oregon and second it is about a strong fisty women finding out she is tge daughter of the devil AND gets four men with it. That alone got me to one click, but the writing, the story and yes the hot, hot men is what kept me reading. I loved every word of this story and am going to start book two right quick. Humor, heat, strong (unique) characters, and one lovable yet crazy racoon, yes the books about perfect.
Fantastic start to a series. Intriguing story line and excellent character and plot development. I love Bandit, I want a trash panda now lol.
Kel Carpenter has written an intriguing story that involves the Four Horsemen and one independent, firey succubus, who is the furture ruler of Hell.
This is such a brilliant story that it had me sucked in from the very beginning, it was action packed, full of mystery with plenty of humour and lots of sexual chemistry and tension.
Ruby is a half succubus who is a strong independent she-demon that has a banshee as a best friend and a racoon as a pet.
The Four Horsemen, Death, War, Fammine and Pestilence are all there to protect Ruby and help her become who she is ment to be. They are all very much attracted to her and wish to be more than just her protectors.
I’ve been in a major book slump. Sort of in between reads while waiting on the next series of my favorites. I stumbled on this one, and the cover and title snagged my attention. I didn’t even read the blurb before one-clicking. So glad I did! I’ll be binge-ing this series! LOVE the main character, and the plot, the world is so original. Fantastic read!
Another great reverse harem find in my opinion. It has quite a telling title so just based on that you can puzzle together a lot of things to come.
Lucifer’s daughter was a quick, spellbinding and easy read. I enjoyed it quite a bit still the book has a few parts to improve on. One thing I liked about it thou was the writing style. I never read anything from the author yet, but her instantly captivating writing helps you fell into this magical world of hers. The ease the whole plot reads with is phenomenal and it’s something I always look for when I discovering new to me authors.
Unfortunately, plot wise there is not much to it, yet. While I love reverse harem and the juicy romance it comes with I still need some actual action/story to happen other than the above mentioned to fully love it. Here not much of this happens. This tale solely focuses on the protagonist getting to know her birthright and the hunky protectors that come with it. Come on, give me some drama, suspense, mystery, something to fill the space.
I absolutely fell in love with the main character. Ruby is completely like I like them, snarky, laid back and badass with a vulnerable side. Still there is lot more to her character and plenty of room for development. Which is also a great addition, if you ask me.
Then there are the four horse men. I adored the spin the author took on this particular motif and found it quite creative. Let’s see we have Allastair aka Famine, who is a shameless flirt and oozes sexuality. Then Rysten aka Pestilence, who is the most laid back of them all and Ruby is most at ease with him. The third one is Laran aka War, the temperamental, broody, gruff one with a huge soft side when it comes to Ruby. Lastly, Julian aka Death, the controlled, quiet and dominant one. They represent a huge spectrum of personalities but they have one thing in common, they are all dangerous and powerful. The sexual chemistry is string and creates an overwhelming tension. Admittedly they don’t get to far on the intimate front but the dynamic of their relationship is balanced well.
This book is fast paced, exciting, steamy and quite enjoyable. I liked it and can’t wait to get my hands on the next one and hopefully the plot is going to be a bit more complex.
Ruby is a great heroine. I really liked her strength, attitde, and her pet raccoon 🙂 I liked the guys and seeing Ruby throw them for a loop. The story in as humor, drama, and tears. Carpenter has a great take on the the Horsemen, and I am excited to see where book 2 takes us 🙂

Thoughts: Wow, I could not put this down to save my life! Ruby is badass yet so easy to relate to. And of the four horsemen, it’s hard to pick just one. Their personalities are so different yet each one draws me to him. Then there’s Moira, the perfect best-friend, who is snarky and just as protective of Ruby as the horsemen are. Throw in the “trash panda”pet named Bandit and it becomes an adventure you won’t want to miss. Not a cliffhanger, but still has you begging for the next book. A unique storyline with characters you can’t help but love. I very much look forward to reading the next book!
Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work and chose to write a review.
*** Small Spoilers ***
This book was so much fun! I had a blast reading this story. It grabbed me from the first sentence and held me the whole way. This is the story of Ruby who thinks the only thing special about her is she is half human, half demon. But then the four horsemen show up (yeah you heard me right) and inform her that she is Lucifer’s daughter and she is the key to stopping the apocalypse. What a lot to take on! But Ruby is such a bad ass. And it’s not just because she has a raccoon for a pet. She is stronger than she thinks. She is the kind of heroin I enjoy rooting for. I loved her from the first chapter when the woman who her ex cheated on her with makes her mad by getting in her face and she sets her car on fire (without out her in it of course)! I was cracking up. And the whole story is like that. There is action, humor, sadness, happiness, some love and whole lot of surprises along the way. I highly recommend this book! You will be craving more. I know I am! And this author definitely has a new fan.
Ruby Morningstar is a quirky half succubus / half human, tattoo artist. She has a pet raccoon. Her best friend and roommate is a banshee. And, she has a crazy ex that just won’t leave her alone even though he’s the one that cheated on her. But life is pretty boring. That is until she ends up in jail for setting a car on fire (and hey, the owner totally deserved it) expecting her best friend to be the one to bail her out only to find out her bail was paid by one of the Four Horsemen!
From that point on, Ruby knows life will never be the same and that everything she thought she knew about herself was a lie. The Four Horsemen are not in town to bring the apocalypse, but to take her back to Hell so she can assume control as Lucifer’s daughter!
This book immediately had me hooked and left me begging for more! Ruby is full of sarcasm and sass. She’s trying to live life on her terms and has a bit of fun when others just won’t stay out of her business (hence lighting a car on fire!). But, she’s knocked for a loop when the Horsemen make an appearance and begin explaining just who she really is and what role she has to play in the future of the world.
I don’t know what I was expecting from the Four Horsemen, but it definitely wasn’t Rysten, Allistair, Julian or Laran. Each of the men is completely unique and brings something different to their relationship with Ruby . . .and this book only touched on just what that relationship will be!
As a love of paranormal romance, I found this story to be especially unique. It’s a fabulous combination of humor, biblical prophecies, sarcasm, action and a bit of heat and chemistry to live things up! While not a cliff-hanger, the author definitely lets readers know there is much more coming and I can’t wait to see what Ruby and the Horsemen do next! 5 stars
A dark, gritty read!
The Four Horsemen…
And Lucifer’s Daughter…
The bringer of the apocalypse…
That opening chapter – my god! That end of the chapter – I was laughing because I knew what was coming! From this point on, I knew I was a goner.
That one scene. My heart bleed for her. I ugly cried. UGLY CRIED, I tell you. God, was I so emotional.
Overall, an enjoyable, entertaining, emotional, dark and gritty read that will take you on quite a journey. An emotional journey and a self-discovery journey. I have a book hangover. Eagerly awaiting the next book.
Highly recommend this book to all readers.
Full of demons, succubus, the Four Horsemen, action, adventure, violence, lust, emotion and darkness.
Perfect for readers of reverse harem paranormal romances/urban fantasy.
Ruby Morningstar is a half demon succubus. She and her best friend, a banshee own a tattoo parlor. Ruby refuses to have sex because of the effect her demon has on men. That unfortunately doesn’t stop them from stalking her. The new girlfriend of her ex blames her , and makes a nuisance of herself.
There are some new men in her life that say they are to protect her. They are extremely powerful demons. The Four Horsemen. She will need them.
This is the start of a series that I know I will be addicted to. Urban fantasy at it’s best. Brimming with excitement, danger and hot guys.
Great fun.
