Carolina Brown couldn’t be more different than her mama if she tried—and truthfully most of us believe she worked hard at precisely that. She worked hard at everything else, too, and set off to college to accomplish big things in the wide world. Unfortunately, God called her right back to Charleston when her mama suffered a near fatal accident that left her requiring round the clock care. Now that … care.
Now that poor young woman reckons her ambitions have reached a dead end. I say it’s just a sudden turn toward a new destination she can’t quite see yet. If Carolina is ever going to believe in herself enough to reach for happiness a second time, she’s going to need some outside encouragement.
It’s been a long time since she’s come round to the church, but that’s not going to stop me from coming round to her. Sometimes you’ve gotta meet people part-way, and sometimes you’ve gotta entrust them with one miracle so they can find the next for themselves.
I do believe Cupcake is the perfect Church Dog for the job. Now I’m sure you’re wondering, can one little Chihuahua fix two broken lives? Stick around and see for yourself.
LOWCOUNTRY LEGACY is a touching and poignant story from a New York Times bestselling author that will warm your heart, bless your soul, and leave you smiling.

Carolina Brown thought she had her whole young life mapped out for her when her mother gets in a car accident her first year of college and she drops out to take care of her. This deviation from her plan causes her to be angry and push people like Levi, a boy who sat behind her in elementary school and has become friends with her mother, away. Both Carolina and her mother Jolene, who is now confined to a wheelchair, need to find a new purpose in life. I thought the resting shelf for dogs Jolene made for her wheelchair was cool. I loved that they opened their hearts to a handicapped dog. It was great to see Mama Mary and her puppies and see Cupcake featured in this one.
It’s hard when some long sought after dreams are suddenly changed. It’s how we roll with the punches that define us. Carolina Brown was out to change the world and had even left Charleston to make her mark on the world, only to receive a phone call that brought her right back to Charleston when her mama was in a close to fatal car accident. Suddenly Carolina has to change her priorities. What will she do with her dreams? The bond between mama and her daughter is so close. I loved that part of the story. I could have done without the “pink hair incident” – I didn’t really like that part but I did like how Carolina was always supporting her mama and trying to help her be self-sufficient. I liked Levi’s character too. Of course, Cupcake the dog was a big part of the story and I enjoy how these dogs are such a joy and support to those who need them! A very fun and soul-stirring series!
When Caroline starts her new path away from home she is quickly returned home to care for her mom after a horrible accident. Cupcake the Chihuahua is sent to this mother/daughter family to help show them that their faith, the church and love will guide them to their new paths in life. The author, Melissa Storm, writes from her heart and helps you restore your faith in love, God and family.
Love these church dogs & this community. Carolina is very determined, her mother is so positive and straight forward, love that too. This accident opens the door for Carolina to sort through her emotions, self worth and seek her purpose. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author.
I believe many of us have faced times when all of our best plans are completely derailed by some unforeseen and unimaginable occurrence and we think no one else can possibly understand. In “Dainty Darlings, Church Dogs of Charleston” Carolina and her mother, Jolene, are faced with life-altering changes that threaten to destroy all of their plans and ultimately their happiness.
This well-crafted and very thoughtful story is a delightful reminder of the power of Faith in God and the resilience with which He has blessed us. As Carolina realized, “Sometimes life went exactly according to plan, but sometimes flexibility was needed in order to make it through.”
I received a free advanced copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review. I happily recommend “Dainty Darlings” to all who enjoy the love of a special pet and an excellent romance novel.
Amazing and sweet book. Wonderful characters.
This is the 2nd book I’ve read in this series. I love how this time Cupcake is the dog to help Carolina & her mother find purpose in their lives after Mama’s auto accident. Great story about developing new faith & helping other people out also after an accident. I look forward to reading more in this series. Highly recommend. I received an ARC. This is my voluntary, honest review.
Carolina had great plans for her future until her mom’s accident. She meets Levi who she is not impressed with at first and then has to figure out her and her mom’s future as well as giving Levi another chance.
Carolina soon finds out that she doesn’t have to do everything on her own when she finally let’s others in.
Come meet Cupcake!!
What an uplifting book! When Mama Jolene and Carolina lives are turned upside down, they find that through faith, friends and the help of Cupcake, they can make it. This is a wonderful series! I received an ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
