Low Country Boondoogle was wonderful. I couldn’t put it down and stayed up until 3 to finish.
I love how Liz and Nate are determined to find the killer. The writing is superb and makes you feel like you are with Liz and Nate in Charleston. The descriptions of restaurants and landmarks make me want to visit Charleston again.
I highly recommend this book.

Everyone’s favorite married team of PIs, Liz Talbot & Nate Andrews, have been asked to work on a case that possibly involves Darius Baker’s love child. Their mission is to determine if he is in involved in any wrongdoing. Simple enough, right? Except the case grows much larger after they begin to investigate Brantley’s involvement in a hemp farm and the mysterious death of of one his business partner’s uncle. I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Edelweiss & Henery Press. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
Lowcountry Boondoggle, the ninth and latest mystery novel in her Lowcountry series, is Susan Boyer’s love song to Stella Maris and Liz and Nate.
They are the private investigators who provide the spice that makes the books, especially this one, tingle with so much excitement and anticipation that you can’t stop reading until the end.
Client Darius Baker again needs help proving his son Brantley and friend Ty did not kill Ty’s Uncle Murray (Professor) Hamilton or bomb and burn up his house.
Professor Hamilton had a bevy of girlfriends from eharmony and other dating websites and Annalise Mitchell, a real one. Also a friend of 30 years, Professor Pierce Fishburne.
Brantley, Ty and friend Will are partners in a hemp farming business and Hamilton had just refused them a business loan.
Liz and Nate investigate the murder alongside Charleston Detective Sonny Ravenel
(Stella Maris is an island right near that city).
Liz and her loving family and friends, as usual, provide comic relief: flighty ghost Colleen who flits in and out trying to help, Police Chief brother Blake and girlfriend Poppy, sister Merry and boyfriend Joe, and Daddy Frank who drives Mamma Carolyn batty at times, and hound dog, Chumley.
Professor Hamilton had a bevy of girlfriends from dating websites like eharmony and a real one, Annalise Mitchell. Also a best friend of 30 years, Professor Pierce Fishburne.
Ty has a sister, Flannery. Hamilton raised them after their parents’ deaths. Their uncle discovered Flannery’s husband Keith Laurens with another woman.
Hamilton also found out that two longtime students John Porcher and Dean Johnson had been cheating.
That gave Liz and Nate plenty to investigate.
I was given an electronic copy of this book to read to review. The opinions expressed are my own.
I absolutely loved every word. Susan’s writing gets better and better with every book as do her stories. I think you’ll love this adventure as much as I did!
A popular college professor is murdered and his beautiful historic Charleston home is blown to smithereens! Up in smoke, you might say. Perhaps the professor’s mysterious death comes after refusing to invest in his nephew’s Hemp business.
Many questions to be answered and Liz Talbot and Nate Andrews, private investigators have a new case to solve!
Although the professor was a low key, tea drinking gentleman, the zany bunch of ladies who show up during his funeral prove something to the contrary! Seems the quiet professor may have had a couple of secrets of his own.
Another great book from Susan Boyer. This book will have you guessing right up until the very end of the book. I enjoyed every page!
I always love Liz’s world. As usual, I was kept guessing. I had my suspicions and for once I was correct. I am very curious about what Nate is up to. Without giving too much away, I will definitely miss one character in future books and hope this is truly not the end for this character.
Lowcountry Boondoggle is Susan M. Boyer’s ninth Liz Talbot mystery, and once again the city of Charleston and the South Carolina barrier islands are a fascinating part of the story. This time around, Liz and her husband/partner are drawn into a case by a former client, Darius Baker (Lowcountry Boomerang), whose recently-discovered son, Brantley, has become involved in a hemp farming operation. Nothing wrong with that, until the uncle of one of Brantley’s two partners is murdered and his house destroyed in a gas explosion.
Was the hemp operation involved? The uncle, a university professor, had declined to invest. What about all those women who showed up at the professor’s funeral? Or the cloud over Brantley’s head—could he have set the fire that killed his adoptive family? And then there were two of the professor’s students, possibly involved in something shady. Not only are there plenty of suspects, the suspects are suspicious of one another.
Lowcountry Boondoggle is another wild ride for Liz and Nate, not to mention the continuing adventures of Liz’s family, what with her father’s over-the-top Halloween yard decor and a couple of surprises from her brother Blake. I’ve enjoyed this series from the beginning, and this installment did not let me down.
I absolutely love this series. Another great mystery with all the things I love about these books; Charleston, all the delectable foods both at restaurants and around Mamma Carolyn’s table. Great characters. A little sad about a character in this one that I hope will change going forward. I will definitely be staying tuned!
I officially have a new favorite Liz Talbot mystery! I think Lowcountry Boondoggle is Susan’s best book yet. I enjoyed this book so much that I accidentally finished it in one day. I’ve been dying to find out about Nate’s “Christmas plans” for the last two books and can’t wait to see this finale pan out in the next one. Highly recommend this series!
This series is getting better and better with each book. Besides the well knitted mystery, engaging characters, funny family situations, there’s the bonus of “visiting” the charming Charleston with its rich history, beauty and excellent restaurants.
I can’t wait for the next in the series.
It definitely stars, the icon for the 5th star isn’t working!!!Take a little trip to the Low Country of South Carolina to visit with Liz and Nate as they go sleuthing around Charleston. This book is part of a series that can easily be read independently but you’ll want to read the prior books just because you had so much fun with them. Most of the characters have been on the scene in the other books and you’ll be intrigued to know the history of each character, especially Liz’s quirky family and friendly ghost. The jacket cover gives a great synopsis of their latest case, so check for details there. The characters are delightful and you can’t ask for a better setting than Charleston. You will find yourself wanting to taste of a plethora of southern cuisine and long for the ocean and coastal and island life. A great escape for a beach, lake, front porch or anytime read. Enjoy!
I was fortunate to read an advanced electronic copy. I was under no obligation to provide a review of this book. Many thanks to the author and publisher for allowing me to read this book. I will probably read it again once I have the paper back version in my hands!
Great addition to the series! Wonderful whodunnit with entertaining and interesting characters. Easy to read and keeps you hooked until the last page. Highly recommend this series!
Thanks to the author for an advance copy and I voluntarily review this book.
Another great book in the continuing series of private eye Liz Talbot and her husband Nate Andrews. The series is set in and around historic Charleston SC. This book keeps you guessing to the very end. You won’t be disappointed by the very entertaining storyline. I highly recommend this book.
This might be my favourite mystery series. Every book is like going to a family reunion to catch up on what everyone has been doing since the last time we were together. Book nine is no exception. For those who have read the earlier books, this one grabs your attention from the first page and only gets more intense. Unfortunately, if you have not read the earlier books you will be rather lost. I cannot stress enough the need to read the entire series. All of the books are wonderful (this may be the best yet!) and keep building to a climax. Liz and Nate go through both highs and lows in this book and I look forward to a resolusion in the next installment.
Thank you to Ms Boyer, Edelweiss, and the publisher for allowing me to be a part of the review team as I received an ARC copy for an honest review. This one is a p
Liz and Nate are once again helping Darius and his new found son. Liz still isn’t convinced Brantley didn’t set the fire from the last book so that lingers and contributes to this story. When a college professor who refused to invest in his nephew and Brantley’s hemp farm is found dead and his house explodes days later, its up to Liz and Nate to find out what happened. Colleen plays even less of a role in helping since she has other Stella Maris interests to protect and some additional future details become clearer. I can’t wait for the next book.
Another great book in the Liz Talbot series. I loved that I really wasn’t sure who was guilty until the end. And of course, the back and forth with Liz’s parents was a great addition as always – love how entertaining they are! You never know what her dad will be up to next! As always, another great book from Susan Boyer. Thank you to the publisher for my ARC, these thoughts/opinions are my own.
Wow! Susan Boyer has stolen my heart once again! Each book in this amazing series gets even better if that’s even possible! Book 9 in this series totally had me hooked and I read it in a sitting! Liz and Nate find themselves deep into a mystery they thought they had solved! As they keep digging to find the truth will it make Liz wish she had not figured it out? You must read this amazing series Ivd come to love so much!! I highly recommend this series to Everyone! Thank you to the publisher for my copy as this was a delightful read! All thoughts are mine and mine alone.
Susan M. Boyer has hit on perfection! I don’t know how but each Low Country book is better than the one before. These books transport me to the Lowcountry with all its southern charm and amazing adventures with Liz and Nate. A book can take you anywhere and this series definitely does. The writing, the characters, the adventures, and the crimes are all superbly written. Highly recommended!!!!! Enjoy!
LOWCOUNTRY BOONDOGGLE (A Liz Talbot Mystery # 9) is an exhilarating read. Susan M. Boyer always takes readers on a thrilling journey with her stories and this one does not disappoint. I couldn’t put it down.
I always enjoy spending time with PIs, Liz Talbot & Nate Andrews as they solve their cases. In this adventure, they’re hot on the case of a killer. But is it related to the hemp farm the victim’s nephew was a partner in? Or could it possibly have anything to do with all the girlfriends the victim seemed to have? Or maybe his relatives were anxious for their inheritance. With so many possible suspects and plot twists, Liz and Nate are kept on their toes trying to sort it all out.
With engaging characters, a keep-you-up-at-night mystery to solve, and such a beautiful location to spend time, LOWCOUNTRY BOONDOGGLE has it all! This is the perfect summer read!
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by the author & Henery Press. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
Lowcountry Boondoggle is the ninth book in Susan Boyer’s Liz Talbot Mystery series. Ms. Boyer provides enough character background that this book can be read as a standalone. This easy read moves along at a steady pace, providing readers with a well-crafted and complex mystery, well-developed characters, Southern charm, humorous situations, and just a touch of paranormal. The book grabs readers’ attention at the beginning, and they are taken on a roller coaster ride that concludes with a surprise ending. There are plenty of twists and turns and red herrings, and no shortage of suspects to keep readers engaged.
Liz Talbot and her husband, Nate Andrews, are private investigators who live in Stella Maris, South Carolina. Liz’s high school friend, Colleen, is a ghost, and Liz and Nate are the only ones who can see and communicate with her. Colleen is the island’s guardian angel, and her assignment is to protect Stella Maris, but she looks out for Liz and Nate as well. Liz’s family adds humor to everyone’s life. Darius Baker’s recently discovered son, Brantley Miller, has gone into the hemp farm business with two of his college friends, Tyler Hamilton and Will Caper. When a beloved Charleston professor, Dr. Murray Hamilton, is murdered, Liz and Nate are asked to look into the death and clear Brantley of any involvement his death. Prior to his death, Brantley and two of his college friends, Tyler Duval and Will Capers, approached Dr. Hamilton, who is Tyson’s uncle, to invest in their hemp farm, but he turned them down. Unfortunately, the murder occurred after Brantley, Tyson, and Will asked Dr. Hamilton to invest in their business, and Tyson becomes a prime suspect because he stands to inherit a substantial amount of money, but Brantley and Will are suspects as well. As always, Liz and Nate, who are well organized and methodical in their investigations, leave no stone unturned as they diligently work to discover the truth.
I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Edelweiss/Above the Treeline and voluntarily reviewed it.
