If you’re looking for a great summer beach read, this one from from Susan Boyer is it. This is #9 in the Liz Talbot Lowcountry mystery series. It has a well written plot that will keep you reading it every chance you get. Liz and Nate are helping Darius Baker out again, only this time they’re trying to help his recently discovered son, Brantley. Also a well loved professor is murdered who happens to be the uncle of one of Brantley’s close friends and business partner, Tyler. So Liz and Nate set to work to figure it all out. I thoroughly enjoy reading about Liz’s family dynamics, which make me chuckle and of course, there is Colleen. She’s the guardian angel of Stella Maris and Liz’s dead best friend. She’s quite a character. But I had tears in my eyes towards the end. And Nate’s still hinting that he has something up his sleeve for the whole family during the upcoming Christmas holiday. I’m always looking forward to the next book, but after this one, I really am on pins and needles to see what happens. Way to go Susan. Keep this great lowcountry series coming.
I love Charleston and the area around it and this takes place there, on a fictional barrier island and sometimes, Greenville. There is a ghost but she’s the only woo woo part. The two lead characters were partners in a PI business before they married and they have issues over the risk involved for each other. There is always a bit of a threat to their island but this one was more about things happening in Charleston and I really wasn’t sure who I could trust and who was the real killer or if there was more than one. It will keep you guessing and you’ll love getting to the end. I hungered for Carolina’s cooking and Charleston as I always do when I read her books. Jump in, the water is fine.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
Welcome to another fabulous adventure with Liz and Nate who totally rock the P.I. business I must say. This one is a hoot as there are all sorts of things happening. We have a hemp farm that may or may not exist and our due is asked to investigate to see if it is a good investment. Along the way a string of strange events start happening until finally a murder occurs. These two use all methods at their disposal in order to unearth the truth including undercover, deception, and so much more making a fun adventure for the reader. I fabulous read that fans of cozies with a Southern flair will enjoy. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Susan Boyer’s Liz Talbot mysteries are always well-written and well-plotted. Lowcountry Boondoggle is no exception. I highly recommend this book.
Darius Baker’s son, Brantley, has gone into a hemp farm business with two of his college friends, Tyler Hamilton and Will Caper. Murray, Ty’s uncle, is a beloved local college professor. Someone killed him and then his house blew up. Unfortunately, the murder occurred after Ty, Brantley, and Will asked Murray to invest in their business and he declined. Now Ty is a prime suspect because of the money he will inherit. Brantley and Will are also suspects. Liz and Nate are hired to solve the murder and hopefully clear Ty and his partners.
There’s no shortage of suspects in this case. Did Brantley or Will kill Murray over money? Or did his current girlfriend kill him because of jealousy? Maybe it was one of his previous girlfriends? Then again, Murray had issues with several students. Could they have killed him? Will Caper’s grandfather, whose land they were using for the hemp farm, was also a suspect. Or was it Ty’s sister, Flannery, or Flannery’s husband?
In addition to investigating the main murder mystery, we see Liz and Nate struggling with several personal issues. We also get to enjoy Liz’s wacky and wonderful family, who has a few surprises they share. Finally, we’re again treated to a detailed view of Charleston, South Carolina. We walk the various streets with Liz and Nate and, even better, hear about all the wonderful food they eat.
Lowcountry Boondoggle is a solid, 5-star mystery. I loved it! After so many books, the main characters feel like old friends. You cheer their good news and mourn their bad news. Oh and once again, I failed to guess “whodunit!”
Thank you to the author and publisher for a review copy.
Once again Susan Boyer has put together a great Lowcountry mystery that is well written with great characters. This one is Lowcountry Boondoggle. In keeping with all the prior books in this series this one also has a serious crime mystery(a murder and a house explosion), humor, a ghost and a little family/relationship drama.
It’s setting is a fictional island right outside Charleston. You get to enjoy the scenery along with the story. I’ve read these books since the first one was published and they are always something to look forward to each year to see what Liz and Nate are up to again.
Part of a cute series with ridiculous plots and lovable characters. Highly recommend.
Another Liz Talbot book for those who are ready to escape to the charm of South Carolina. You know Susan Boyer is always a solid choice for an afternoon read.
Susan M. Boyer never disappoints and Lowcountry Boondoggle is no exception. I can’t get enough of Liz! Start with book one in the nine-book series is you haven’t read them yet. But be prepared to get nothing else done! Southern charm and mystery at its best!
Lowcountry Boondoggle is the ninth book in Susan M. Boyer’s Liz Talbot mysteries. In this edition, Liz and her husband and partner Nate Andrews are brought on board by Radcliffe and Rutledge, a prominent Charleston law firm for whom they often do investigations. In their current assignment they are charged with investigating Tyler Duval who is being looked at closely for the murder of his uncle, Professor Murray Hamilton. Fellow Stella Maris resident and council member Darius Baker, who had been a previous client, had retained the law firm as his son Brantley and Tyler, along with another Clemson alum, are business partners in a hemp farm.
Throughout this fast paced novel, Liz and Nate join forces, both undercover and as themselves, to search for the answers needed. With unexpected events, from multiple ladies showing up at the professor’s funeral and identifying as his girlfriend to taking protective actions for his actual girlfriend and fellow professor, Annalise Mitchell, Liz and Nate draw a true threat to themselves.
With abundant twists and turns, unexpected events, and ultimately solving multiple mysteries, this is the best of the series yet! I would like to thank the author and publisher for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own and I did very much enjoy this book and I do recommend it

LOWCOUNTRY BOONDOGGLE (A Liz Talbot Mystery # 9) is finally here. I have been waiting impatiently and I can just say I was not disappointed. Once I started this one I could not put it down!! PIs, Liz Talbot & Nate Andrews, have been asked to work on a case that is tied to Darius Baker’s love child Brantley. You might remember Darius from the previous book. They are tasked with trying to figure out if Brantley has been involved in anything nefarious of if he is walking the straight and narrow. That should be a simple open and shut case. But can anything ever be easy with a case involving Nate and Liz? As it turns out, Brantley and his friends have become involved in a hemp farm business and after the mysterious death of a local college professor who declined to invest in Brantley’s business, he and his friends have become suspects. Now Nate and Liz must prove his innocence while trying to find the real killer With more suspects than clues, can our favorite PI’s stay out of danger and avoid being the next victims?
Susan Boyer has once again provided us with another edge of your seat mystery to solve. Her plots are always full of twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end. Once again we have been provided with uniquely detailed descriptions of Charleston, it’s beauty and it’s food! You even get an idea of things you might want to order if you happen to hit up the town. I cannot wait for the next adventure with Liz, Nate and our favorite spirit guardian Colleen!!

LowCountry Boondoggle is the ninth book in the Liz Talbot Mystery series. Talbot & Andrews Investigation returns once again with Colleen, their spirit sidekick. The law firm of Rutledge and Radcliffe have called Liz and Nate to help investigate and clear celebrity Darious Baker’s son, Brantley Miller of any involvement in the recent questionable death of Dr. Murray Hamilton who was a well known and liked college professor an also the uncle to Tyler Duval. Brantley Miller, Tyler Duval and Will Capers are agriculture majors at Clemson University and are pursuing establishing a hemp farming business. The setting involves Charleston, South Carolina and surround areas. You will enjoy not just the investigation but also the feel for family involvement. Susan Boyer warns is in the dedication that, “This is a very dramatic chapter in Liz, Nate, and Colleen’s story. It is NOT the last.” And I’m glad I read that, because I still want to know so much more. I’ll be watching her newsletter to see what comes next. I’ve read the whole series and I think this book has more new story lines than any of the others. While some wrap things up, others leave the reader wanting more. I love Liz and Nate and all the colorful characters of Stella Maris.
Thank you to Edelweiss, the author, and the publisher for the advance review copy and the opportunity to give my review.
I was hooked with the first book I read in the Liz Talbot Mystery series and have loved every book since. The ninth book, Lowcountry Boondoggle, is great! Susan M. Boyer catches me with her wonderful characters and keeps me avidly reading with a complex mystery and family shenanigans! The humor and the loving relationship between Liz and Nate are as much of a draw as the always captivating mysteries.
I requested an arc via Edelweiss and was excited to be approved. Thanks to Edelweiss and Henery press for the opportunity to get to read Lowcountry Boondoggle early. I loved the book and I always review books that I love.

Great fast-paced mystery.
When Liz and Nate, married P.I.s, take on a new client, Darius, little do they realize that soon they will be working with his newly discovered son.
When a popular professor is killed, Nate and Liz are put on the case. Could Daruis’s son and his partners be involved? Their start-up hemp company needs investors, and it didn’t sit well that the professor refused to buy in.
Then there is the professor’s new girlfriend, and the other women who said they were dating him. Did jealousy push one of them over the edge?
Why is Liz’s ghostly best friend acting strangely?
Add in the beautiful Charleston and surrounding setting, Liz’s quirky family and their antics and you have the perfect summer read. A great addition to this series.
I highly recommend it!
I loved this book! The Lowcountry never disappoints when Liz and Nate are at the wheel.
