LOWCOUNTRY BOONDOGGLE, the ninth book in the Liz Talbot Mystery series, is as fresh and exciting as the other installments. I think it is the best book yet and is sure to please both new reader and longtime fans. This time around married couple and PI partners Liz and Nate find themselves involved with the murder of a well liked college professor. Despite his beloved status, there are plenty of secrets and suspects, including students, love interests, and family, to sift through…and, of course, lots of suspense and danger.
I tremendously enjoy Liz and Nate’s adventures. At this point in the series, each book feels like I am visiting old friends. Author Boyer does a great job balancing the wonderfully quirky characters, personal lives, and the murder mystery. I felt invested in the characters and story from the first page and did not figure out whodunit and why until very near the end.
LOWCOUNTRY BOONDOGGLE is great fun. I look forward to many more mysteries featuring Liz Talbot. Highly recommended.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher Henery Press and voluntarily shared my thoughts and opinions here.
Liz and her husband are private investigators. They have been hired by the rich and powerful Darius Baker. Darius Baker’s son has started a hemp business. When one of the investors, a sweet Charleston professor, is murdered, it opens up a whole new can of worms!
I have loved this series since the very beginning. These books are great for an easy and fun, summer read. And this one fits perfectly into this series. I love the setting of Charleston and the author incorporates the right amount of history into this mystery.
And the characters….as always, Liz’s family is a hoot, especially her dad. I laughed out loud at the Alexis dilemma. Then there is the ghost…yes you heard me…ghost named Colleen. Her antics are sure to leave the reader in stitches.
Need a great, cozy mystery for a vacation…THIS IS IT!
I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.
I was anxiously awaiting Lowcountry Boondoggle, the 9th book in Susan Boyer’s Lowcountry cozy mystery series, set in Stella Maris, a fictional island near Charleston. It’s her best book yet, though it can easily be read & enjoyed as a stand alone mystery. Another home run for Susan Boyer!
PIs Liz Talbot & Nate Andrews continue their work for client Darius by investigating the death of a local professor. The professor was the uncle of Darius’ son Brantley’s business partner, Tyler. Brantley, Tyler & Will were partners in a start-up hemp business. The night before the professor died, the 3 young men had dinner in the professor’s home. Tyler tried to convince his uncle/professor to invest in their business -did the professor die for declining the opportunity? Was the professor’s home destroyed to eliminate security camera footage or evidence related to his death? Was Brantley, who had legal trouble the prior year, a suspect because of his past? Darius asked Liz & Nate to investigate & if not guilty, clear these young men of suspicion by the police.
Was relationship jealousy the reason for the professor’s death? Four of the professor’s current & prior girlfriends came to his viewing & funeral, surprising family and friends with their antics. Was the current girlfriend jealous of the professor’s relationship with his best friend of 30 years? Was the bestfriend jealous of the time the new girlfriend spent with his old friend, the professor?
Did cheating students kill the professor to protect their academic success? The professor caught Keith, his niece’s husband, in a “compromising situation” in a local bar; did the he kill the professor to protect his secret?
Did the professor’s murderer want to silence Liz & Nate for investigating not only his murder, but others from the prior book? Many plot twists & connections keep this book interesting and difficult to put down, but not confusing.
Boyer’s quirky characters & their ongoing antics, including Liz’s parents and siblings, make me feel I’m coming home to family! Several surprises happen in Liz’s family, which was fun to read! Liz & Nate’s relationship grows deeper with each book. Can’t wait to see the family celebration Nate is planning for their first wedding anniversary in the next book? Write faster Susan Boyer-I can’t wait!
Thanks to Henery Press & Susan Boyer’s team for the advanced reader copy-I read it in one sitting, then reread to savor the details! Susan’s books are a pleasure to read with the interesting plots & quirky characters who’ve grown close to my heart over the series, including pets & a supernatural spirit from Liz’s childhood! I recommend this well crafted mystery, along with the other 8 in the Lowcountry Series-fun beach reads so fill up your kindle before your next vacation or staycation!
This mystery series is great! And this latest is one of the best yet! The story lines in each book are so different that you could read them as a stand alone, but who would want to?! You would miss all of Liz’s family shenanigan’s, especially her dad’s who is always up to something and driving Liz’s mom to distraction!! It’s a fun family and Liz and her husband Nate are the best sleuthing couple since Nick and Nora!!
This is book number 9 and it keeps you guessing from the start! Liz and Nate revisit old client Darius to help clear his newly found son and son’s friend and partner Tyler, in the murder of Tyler’s uncle.
Who would want this well liked and popular college professor dead? And who burned his house down? Are they connected and could it be tied to a fire that years ago killed Darious’ son’s adoptive family? So many suspects and too few clues keep Liz and Nate busy finding answers to all of their questions!
Susan’s books are full of rich descriptions of the south and southern cuisine that will make you feel like you are right there enjoying everything along with Liz!
This is one of my favorite authors. Don’t miss this delicious series!!
