Private investigators Liz Talbot and Nate Andrews are all set to enjoy some quality time on the beach. That’s until they get the news about Darius. Darius DeAndre Baker, star of the hit TV show, Main Street USA, has had enough of the Hollywood highlife. After ten years of visiting everyone else’s hometown, he returns to his own—Stella Maris, South Carolina. But the moving trucks have barely … barely unloaded when Trina Lynn Causby, Darius’s high school girlfriend, turns up dead, and the entire town reels as Darius is arrested.
Despite the mounting evidence against him, Liz and Nate believe Darius is innocent. They dig through a scandalously long list of suspects, including Darius’s three ex-wives—who have all arrived in Stella Maris—and his love child with Trina Lynn.
But Trina Lynn led a complicated life. She had at least one stalker and two suitors—one with a jealous wife who recently made a deliciously outrageous scene when Trina Lynn turned up at a charity ball.
As the danger mounts, Liz and Nate race to find a killer and clear Darius’s name—and keep him alive.

Lowcountry Boomerang is the eighth book in Susan M. Boyer’s very popular Liz Talbot Mystery series. B list celebrity and tv host sensation Darius Baker has moved home to Stella Maris and has purchased the old Devlin home place on Devlin’s Point. When Liz is given a cryptic message from Charleston Detective Sonny Ranvenel, she pays a visit to the new island resident just moments before the Charleston police arrive at Darius’ home. In the few minutes Liz has to speak to Darius, she relays the message and gets his approval to hire Charleston attorney Fraser Rutledge to defend him, hence also hiring liz and Nate to investigate. Darius is arrested for the murder of his high school sweetheart Trina Lynn Causby.
Although Darius did have dinner with Trina Lynn the night she was murdered, he swears he did nothing to hurt her. In fact, the local journalist left their dinner to meet with an anonymous source regarding a story she was writing. As Liz and Nate unravel the clues and sift through the circumstantial evidence, they tend to believe that Darius has been framed, and expertly so. But, why?
As the investigation flows and Darius is released on bond, Liz and Nate take Darius home to Stella Maris. As the ferry approaches shore and Nate starts up the car to get the air running an odd clicking sound begins coupled with guardian angel Colleen telling them to dive. As they leap into the water the crew follows them just moments before the car explodes, carrying the ferry to the bottom of the harbor. They must have gotten too close to the truth,
This is a fast paced mystery with strong and interesting characters. It is twisty-turny with a very surprising ending. Susan M. Boyer has once again honored her readers with a well designed mystery! One that not only satisfies the detective of the reader’s heart, but also leaves the fan wanting the next story. I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it!
Dedicated fans and new readers are sure to love Lowcountry Boomerang! Susan M. Boyer knows how to create characters for her readers to love, or dislike. Those we dislike may not be the villains of the novel but they sure aren’t loveable and they offer reasonable red-herrings without making us feel cheated. The plot was excellent and complex as always and made for a great read. I think Lowcountry Boomerang has supplanted Lowcountry Bordello as my new favorite.
I requested and received a copy of this book via Edelweiss, so thanks to them and to Henery Press as well as the wonderful author! As I tell the world how much I enjoyed it, I am ready for the next book in the series, but they are well worth waiting a year for.
I received a copy of this book from the author, Susan M. Boyer. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review. Fantabulous book!!!!! I would give this book 1000 stars if that were possible. Susan will grab you by the neck and not let go until the very end of her books. Her books are fun, entertaining, interesting, and to die for. Absolutely love Liz, Nate, Colleen, and all the Talbot family – they are a hoot!!! Enjoy!
Hello Stella Maris and Charleston! I love visiting these places with Liz and Nate while they solve another mystery with the help of Colleen. Susan Boyer has a way of drawing you into the story and making you feel as if you know each character personally. Her writing is so descriptive that I would swear I have vacationed on Stella Maris at some point in my life. The Lowcountry series never disappoints and Susan Boyer cannot release them fast enough for her fans! So come on to South Carolina and set a spell with Liz, Nate, and the whole group of family and friends. I promise y’all won’t regret it!
I was thrilled to receive an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
The Liz Talbot Mystery series is one of my favorites for so many reasons. Charleston is my home and I am always delighted to read books set here. Susan goes into such great detail with the locations that I can visualize each step along the way. The characters are genuine, charismatic, and adorably eccentric. Each mystery has enough twists and turns to keep it interesting, without becoming completely far fetched.
Lowcountry Boomerang ended with a cliffhanger, so I’ll be anxiously awaiting the next installment.
Another great book in the Liz Talbot Mystery series! Liz Talbot and her husband Nate are private investigators. They are hired to help clear the name of former TV Star Darius Baker. Darius has returned home to Stella Maris and is accused of murdering his high school girl friend, Trina Lynn Causby. Trina Lynn is a local investigative reporter, with more than one person who might not like her poking around. But who has motive to kill her? The list of possible suspects is long. There are a lot of twists and turns as Liz and Nate narrow down the suspect list. And as in earlier Lowcountry books, Liz’s family provides us with some added excitement and laughs. Susan M. Boyer is great at making you feel a part of the action. These books are hard to put down! I’m already looking forward to book #9!
I really enjoy reading the Lowcountry series. I am from SC and it is great to have places I know in a book. Perfect book to curl up in a Pawley’s Island Hammock and read.
Susan M. Boyer delivers yet again! If you haven’t read any of these books, you absolutely must. The antics that the Liz’s (main character) family get up to are hilarious. Please, avoid drinking anything during these parts for safety’s sake! She keeps you guessing until the end about whodunit. There is no deux ex machina here, though there are plenty of believable red herrings along the way-as there is with any really good mystery. I have also now added a new place to stay and some new restaurants in Charleston to my list of places to go. I don’t want to give any spoilers-you’ll just have to read it! If you love the South, were raised here, have a friend or family member here, are curious about what it’s like, have ever been Charleston, ever wanted to go to Charleston, like light murder mystery books, like to laugh out loud when reading, or like a little ghost story-you’ll love this book. Basically, just read it!
I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
INTRIGUE, ENLIGHTENMENT & ENTERTAINMENT!
Lowcountry Boomerang (A Liz Talbot Mystery Book 8) by Susan M. Boyer is a whirlwind of intrigue, enlightenment and entertainment! Starring everyone’s two favorite Private Investigators, Liz Talbot and her husband Nate Andrews, this series is set in and around beautiful Charleston, South Carolina and the wonderful Stella Maris, Island. This installment involves a hometown hero who has made a name for himself as reality television star. Darius is tired of the spotlight and just wants to kick back and relax! Perhaps that’s something he should have considered PRIOR to having THREE ex-wives!! Even in small town Stella Maris big trouble quickly finds Darius but Liz and Nate have inside information that he is not guilty. What follows can only be described as the best crime solving spree interwoven with the best private tour of Charleston and most definitely including the best taste testing of the grandest Restaurants the area has to offer! Now that is my idea of intrigue, enlightenment and entertainment! Boyer has managed to give us the very BEST descriptive crime solving methods as this case required lots of patience, poise and precision. Her descriptions of the area are so on point that we feel as though we are walking down the streets, looking into the gardens, shopping in the stores and conversing with the people she introduces throughout Lowcountry Boomerang. Her imagery of the Restaurants and the glorious meals at each one will leave you wanting to book a trip to Charleston with your Itinerary planned completely around where you are going to dine at each meal!! Her characters blend in beautifully with this setting. Such a shame murder has to taint the picture. What a boomerang of a story awaits those who choose to read this one! The ending will leave you stunned! I was provided an ARC of this book by Henery Press and Edelweiss. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
I was privileged to have an ARC to preview and review. Susan Boyer has done it again!! I have been anticipating this book for a while and it did not disappoint!! From the first page to the last, I was riveted by the plot and the characters! It might be my favorite Liz Talbot mystery yet!! It was exciting and mysterious! This book had you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end! I tried playing detective along with Liz to figure out who the perpetrator was, but I was unsuccessful! If you are looking for exciting mysteries to read, this series is for you!!
I loved it! I had to drop everything until I was finished with this book. Private investigator Liz is a truly genuine person. She pursues leads without judgment based on her own set of solid values. It’s fascinating to watch her and her husband hashing out their hunches and uncovering answers. Some of the trails they follow seem probable but aren’t until finally everything fits with a gratifying snap. This is one of my favorite authors. She makes me long to visit the sites and restaurants and feel the southern camaraderie of her friends and family. Someday I will make it there and it will be because I enjoy this series so much.
Lowcountry Boomerang (Liz Talbot Mystery #8) by Susan M Boyer
What a fantastic story and mystery filled with twists and turns till the very end. I loved Lowcountry Boomerang, the newest release in the the Liz Talbot Mystery series by Susan M Boyer. Ms Boyer exceeds all expectations I have come to look for and truly love in this series. Every book in this series is better than the last. This is a difficult task because the first book was excellent to begin with. Boomerang brought everything we love about this series. Right from the first chapter, I felt the excitement like I was awaiting a visit from a long time friend who is finally come from afar to visit. I don’t like to spoil the story-line for other readers, but I will say we get to catch up with most of our old friends and family from Stella Maris, and I LOVE that Polly has returned in this book as well. Liz and Nate were able to spend some time just enjoying being a couple, which was a nice addition to the story. Sometimes in cozy mysteries it can be pretty easy to guess who “did it” long before the ending of the book. But, Susan M Boyer is such an excellent writer that we never see the ‘who’ coming until the very end! This #8 release is a must read, as are all the books in the series. In Boomerang we follow along side Liz and Nate as they investigate to prove the innocence of a now famous Stella Maris resident who has just returned back to his childhood hometown. I love her writing style in that we are right in the investigation with Liz and Nate following along the clues and putting all the pieces together and, that there are always a number of possible leads and suspects. I am already looking forward to the next release and the chance to join in with Liz and Nate on the next amazing adventure. Thank you Henery Press and Susan M Boyer for allow me the the privileged of reading and ARC of this book inexchange for my honest review.
Liz Talbot is about as real as it gets, for a fictional character! She worries about her family, her husband, her finances, her neighbors, and her community, just like we do. However, she does it while solving mysteries and communicating with her deceased best friend/guardian angel and enjoying the scenery and cuisine of the lowcountry. In this installment of the Liz and Nate saga, they solve a murder mystery that involves some of Liz’s old high school friends. I always enjoy a trip to Stella Maris, South Carolina and I sure hope that you will, too. Grab a glass of sweet tea and some ham biscuits and see if you can manage to put this story down-I sure couldn’t!
I always enjoy Susan Boyer’s Liz Talbots Mysteries. Low Country Boomerang was no exception. Catching up with Liz and Nate on their latest adventure is like getting together with old friends. Local boy who made it big in television, Darius, is accused of murder when his former girlfriend is discovered dead. Liz and Nate take on the hunt for the real killer to prove him not guilty. It is a compelling mystery with a soft southern charm.
Wow! This is a wonderful addition to the Liz Talbot Lowcountry series! I loved it! I was surprised by the ending and who the villain was. Liz and Nate make a wonderful investigative team with all of their cool little “toys” to help them solve the mystery. She continues to make Stella Maris and Charleston, SC sound like wonderful places to visit. I’m planning a trip there to see all of the places mentioned in the Liz Talbot stories. They sound wonderfully intriguing. I am looking forward to the next book
Lowcountry Boomerang is Susan M. Boyer’s 8th and Best Liz Talbot mystery so far, in my humble opinion.
Susan’s writing is superb! And the mystery’s fantastic plot is as hard to unravel as a Rubik’s cube.
You are laughing one minute, crying the next, then holding your breath or screaming out loud, then back to laughing. All the way through the story. And you never do figure out who murdered Trina Lynn Causby, a a crusading reporter for a local TV station, until the end of the book.
Right after the murder, it turns out that Darius Baker, a Stella Maris resident who used to be Trina’s boyfriend in high school, but left for years and became the star of the national hit TV show, Main Street USA, is back and accused of the murder.
But lots of quirky characters appear from Liz’s previous mysteries including Colleen who tells Liz and Nate that Darius is innocent and they need to prove it.
Many other possibilities exist who could be the murderer, including a previously unknown to Darius love child, a son Trina had when they were briefly married young teens, his other three ex-wives, Trina’s two secret lovers and one of their wives, a stalker, and a good “platonic” male friend.
Sonny Ravenel, a Charleston Police Detective who has a new partner who plays by the book, is sending Liz and Nate signals about the case surreptitiously through his girlfriend Moon Unit at the Cracked Pot restaurant she owns.
There’s lots of craziness from Liz’s mother and father and sister Merry and brother Blake, Chief of Police of Stella Maris, and his girlfriend Poppy. As well as a whole bunch of fun new characters added to the mix.
I read this new mystery in less than a day and can’t wait for Susan to write Liz Talbot Number 9.
Also I was given a digital ARC copy for an honest review. (less)

Someone murdered Trina Lynn Causby and the police seem convinced the killer was Darius Baker. Darius had returned to Stella Maris after retiring as the host if the hit TV show, Main Street USA. Trina and Darius had been high school sweethearts. They were also seen arguing at a restaurant in Charleston the night of the murder. Thanks to Liz, Darius hires Fraser Rutledge III as his lawyer. Liz and Nate then set out to prove Darius was innocent. Unfortunately, the evidence against him keeps mounting up.
There’s no shortage of suspects. Trina had a stalker and several boyfriends, one of whom had a jealous wife. She also had a co-worker who threw off suspicious vibes. Darius had three jealous ex-wives and a newly discovered son with Trina Lynn. Most of them had a motive to kill Tina Lynn.
To be honest, I never figured out who the killer was. I was convinced it was someone else. The clues were all there. I just didn’t put it together.
This is a fun read with a great mystery, interesting characters, and a tight plot. I was happy to see appearances by Poppy Oliver and Calista McQueen, two of my favorite characters from previous Susan Boyer mysteries. Another ongoing character you’ll find in the Lowcountry mysteries is the city of Charleston. There are wonderful descriptions of the city, the buildings, and restaurants. It’s like going on a vacation to Charleston and being entertained by a murder mystery at the same time. I highly recommend this book.
I received an ARC copy of Lowcountry Boomerang and this is my honest review.
I love the Susan Boyer Lowcountry books. My most favorite was Bordello. BUT this newest one may have surpassed it. They just get better every time and I slow down my reading because I don’t want it to end! When it’s over it means no Liz for a year or so. Lowcountry Boomerang was awesome. What a surprise ending. Never suspected the culprit. As always Great job Ms Boyer, keep them coming. This is a must read!
Another great story in a great series. I love the characters. There were plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end. I highly recommend this book and this series!
A well known journalist Trina Lynn Causby is found murdered and the only clue the police are focusing on is weak at best. As an investigative news reporter, Trina certainly has her fair share of enemies. So why are the police adamant on only investigating and arresting her ex-husband and television celebrity Darius Baker as the prime suspect?
Liz Talbot and her husband Nate Andrews are private investigators who receive a tip from Liz’s friend Moon saying that Darius is being framed for Trina’s murder. Are Liz and Nate up to the challenge of such a high profile investigation? You bet they are and you won’t be able to put this book down until the mystery is solved.
One minute you are trying to unravel the layers of mystery surrounding Trina’s murder, and the next you are laughing out loud with Liz’s family shananigans!
At the end of the book it seems the author is dropping hints about the upcoming books. I would recommend this book and I am looking forward to the next books in the series.
