Lowcountry PI Liz Talbot returns to the streets of Charleston in the seventh installment of Susan M. Boyer’s USA TODAY bestselling mystery series.Between an epic downpour and a King Tide, those historic streets are flooded – and dangerous. A late night tragic accident along the Lower Battery leads Liz Talbot straight to her next case.Who’s the client? Well, now, therein lies the first puzzle. … first puzzle. When the police arrive at the scene of the accident, Poppy Oliver claims she’s only trying to help.
But the dent on the front of her Subaru and the victim’s injuries provoke a certain Charleston police detective’s suspicious nature. A wealthy, anonymous benefactor hires Liz and her partner Nate Andrews to prove Poppy Oliver’s innocence.
What exactly was Poppy Oliver up to? Is she a random good Samaritan who happens upon the accident scene? Or perhaps this tragedy wasn’t an accident. She just might be his abused wife’s accomplice.
Why does everyone involved in this case have a sudden burning urge for reading material, leading them to the same charming bookshop along the waterfront?
From a risqué, exclusive club in an old plantation to an upscale resale shop in the historic King Street shopping district to a downtown graveyard crawling with ghosts, Liz tracks a group of women who band together to help victims of domestic violence.
In her most challenging case yet, Liz fears she may find a killer, but justice may prove elusive.

*I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
What an incredible addition to this series! We get follow Liz as she investigates what may be a hit and run murder or it could be something else. Her P.I. duo is hired through some odd means and the questions just keep piling up from there. Of course these all lead to a conclusion that I really did not see coming which is always nice. I love the addition of the guardian spirit as this provides a nice added element to this series which really gives it some flair. If you are looking for a good suspenseful murder mystery book/series then I highly recommend that you try this one. I really enjoyed it so I give it 4/5 stars.
After reading previous books in the series, I could not wait for more adventures from characters who have become friends. It does help to read the earlier books as following the connections between people would be hard otherwise. The story gets going from page one and never lags. Also, don’t read hungry as this book gives a great tour of South Carolina food. Get your list of Charleston restaurants ready for your next trip. This book has it all, great story, fun characters and wonderful setting.
I have read all of the Liz Talbot series and NONE disappoint. If you have never read one, you can really begin with any of the books but I would recommend starting at the beginning. Liz is a wonderful character and someone you would want as your best friend. I received an advance copy of this one and couldn’t decide if I wanted to savor it by reading it slowly or devouring it. FIVE STARS!
I innocently happened upon the Liz Talbot Mysteries when looking for a “light” mystery book for my mom for Mother’s Day three years ago. I downloaded the Kindle version to make sure it was “appropriate,” and found the story and series just delightful! Fun, entertaining, regionally set, and a good solid mystery with beautiful tones humor and romance! This latest venture is possibly the best so far and such a fun and intriguing reading adventure! While each book can stand alone, don’t neglect reading all of them! Each one builds on the other, and like a must-course meal, each one gets better and better! Lowcountry Bookshop is a wonderful beach read, but, it is also an anytime read! Enjoy it, and if you don’t have the other six, delight yourself by reading them too! (The publisher provided me with an advance copy of this book. I’m voluntarily sharing my thoughts here.) And even if I hadn’t had the chance to read it early I would have read it the first day it was released! Go to your favorite bookshop or e-book source and enjoy a getaway to South Carolina’s low country! Susan Boyer has a beautiful writing style, descriptive and witty! The books are top notch mysteries!
Such a fun read! I love spending time with Liz Talbot and her crazy family, and this story does not disappoint. When Liz and Nate are hired by an attorney representing an anonymous third party to find the person who ran down an accused domestic abuser, there is no shortage of suspects. Along the way, they discover secret messages being passed in a local bookstore, witness suspicious activities all over Charleston, and have a few run-ins with baby goats. This book kept me turning the pages late into the night. And just when you think it’s over, it’s not! It’ll keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. Just when you think everything is complete there is a big surprise.
This is Book #7 in the Lowcountry Series. I have loved all of them and look forward to the next in the series. Susan M. Boyer incorporates Southern Lowcountry flair in her stories, making Charleston, SC sound like a wonderful, enchanting place with delightful characters. There appears to be trouble afoot with a cute little mysterious bookshop, and it might be involved in an accident.. Liz Talbot and Nate Andrews, Private Investigators, are partners in work as well as personally. They try to untangle this mystery, as it gets more and more involved and complicated. I highly recommend to those who like a cozy mystery with SC shine. A great read!
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The characters in this book are a quirky family that you can’t help but wish you could be part of. Private investigators Nate and Liz take us on mystery ride that is funny and entertaining and but also deals with a serious social problem in a thoughtful manner. You will laugh, you will cry, you will enjoy the twisty, turny whodunit this book will take you on. A lighthearted mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end. Seventh in a series but can easily stand on it’s own.
Another phenomenal episode in the Liz Talbot series! There is no way you can start reading this book and put it down without finishing it. It has with a little humor and a little paranormal intervention from Carolyn, the guardian angel for the town. Although this book can be read as a stand alone, this series is a fun one to follow from the beginning! Liz and her husband, Nate are PIs with all the bells and whistles, like tracking and hearing devices. This book has so many red-herrings and twists and turns that when things come together in the end, you are very surprised. Liz and Nate are hired through a law firm by an undisclosed client to find out what really happened when Phillip Drayton was hit by a car and killed. The main suspect, the mail delivery girl, Poppy was found over the body with the victims cell phone in her hand and her old car had dents in it. Nate and Liz do not believe the accident, or was it, was Poppy’s doing and their investigation takes them in so many turns it makes their head spin! Some how connected seems to be a bookshop where people go in, go to a specific book, leave a bookmark and leave. How is that connected? Or is it something else. We know on of the matriarchs of the town is involved with a few of her friends with rescuing and helping abused wives leave their husbands and hide. Why has Phillip’s widow went looking for help, was he an abuser? So many left turns and suspects that when you get a right one you still aren’t sure you are on the right track! I can’t wait for Liz and Nate’s newest adventure. I received and ARC from the author, but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
This was such a wonderful book! The story deals with a real life issue and wraps a mystery around it with twists, turns and a surprise ending. The characters are wonderfully developed. I felt like I was there watching the whole story unfold. I’ve read all of the Lowcountry books – awesome reads!
Lowcountry Bookshop in spite of the murder investigation, is just plain good fun, and with all the amazing details and little bits of info only a local would know of Charleston SC, you can’t help being drawn in.
The two leads, Liz and Nate, are local Investigators and are so cute and perfect for each other. In spite of some of the craziness that is going on at Liz’s family home, they are able to solve another case.
Hired by an attorney representing a client who wants to remain anonymous, Liz and Nate investigate an accident that happens on a rainy night. The person being accused, Poppy, appears to be too well liked and kind to be involved. What could her motive be? How does a local Lowcountry Bookshop fit in?
As with all Susan Boyer books, I was left entertained, smiling from ear to ear and anxiously awaiting her next book.
I absolutely love this series and can’t recommend it enough-and Lowcountry Bookshop is no exception. This book, like the rest of the series, is a great, cozy mystery-light enough to keep it on the cozy side, but with enough detail and seriousness to keep you guessing. Think of it as an episode of The Mentalist versus Law and Order. The characters are believable and very real-they feel like people you know. The relationships draw you in. The plot keeps you guessing. Furthermore, if you love the South, Charleston, and especially if you (like me) have fond memories of growing up and living here, you will adore this series. There are scenes that are laugh-out-loud funny. I would love to describe one that made me laugh so hard I had tears on my face and my husband was very concerned, but I don’t want to give away a single spoiler! You will simply have to read it for yourself! Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. I already have recommended this series personally to all of my friends and family. You will be doing the same-and learning to make your own pimento cheese and drinking Cheerwine again while you plan your next Charleston visit.
I really enjoyed this book. I did not want the end to come I wanted more. I wanted more of the new blooming relationship, more of the little family struggling, and what did the judicial system do to guilty? The twist and turns didn’t make it obvious of The Who did it.
The Liz Talbot series has really grown, and this one doesn’t put her as a target and I loved that aspect.
BEGUILING!!
Lowcountry Bookshop ((The Liz Talbot Mystery Series #7) is beguiling from beginning to end! I’ve been a fan of this series from the beginning, but in my opinion, the author has taken this series to a whole different level with this installment. She also manages to draw attention to a very real problem in today’s society. Boyer has given her readers more insights into her beloved characters and it’s interesting to see what motivates them, watch their growth, see their struggles, learn their dreams and she makes you feel as though you are a “silent PI partner” working with them to solve their case. Liz and Nate find themselves working a very complex case with an even more complicated client. Throw in Liz’s family’s usual shenanigans and chaos on top of everything else and you wonder how Liz and Nate are able to close any of their cases! Boyer’s clever diversions will keep you engaged throughout! Best mystery of the series! I was provided an ARC of this book by Henery Press and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence. I also have preordered a copy of this book for my own personal collection.
Another fantastic book in a phenomenal series. The characters deal with real situations, and I like that things aren’t sugarcoated. Ms. Boyer is a master storyteller. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend this book and this series.
I loved going back to Stella Maris and spending time with my friends! Liz and Nate have a mystery to solve that is intriguing. The family, mainly Daddy and Momma, also competes for Liz’s attention. This book kept my attention all the way. I laughed out loud a time or two and was heart broken in another spot. A new romance may be brewing, too. All in all, I was sorry for the book to end. I can’t wait for my next visit with Liz!
Another great Liz Talbot mystery. The author weaves a very interesting mystery. Was it accidental or was it murder? It was amazing reading and following the clues and trying to guess how it all came to be. Domestic abuse and the women who try to help those being abused. How does this all figure in.
Nate and Liz are hired to investigate a hit and run by a mysterious person. Nate and Liz set to work and the more they investigate the more complicated it gets. Of course you throw in three goats, a pig, and a swimming pool and well you have to read it to see how it all fits together.
It’s a wonderful book to read and a real page turner. I really enjoyed it and can not wait to read the next adventure for Liz and Nate.
I just finished my advance copy of Lowcountry Bookshop, Liz Talbot book #7. I don’t know how Ms. Boyer keeps it so fresh but she does. I was afraid going into #7 I might get a little antsy since I have read the previous six. I was late coming to her books, so I read through all six in a short period of time. I love Liz Talbot. It started with the first book and just kept going. I feel like I know her personally and could meet her for lunch. Ms. Boyer brings her to life in each book and with each book keeps you interested in the current plot. I find that amazing because most authors of series jump from one character to another character in their series. She has kept Liz front and center and again, fresh along with her family and friend dynamics – and most of all Collen!
I won’t give away the plot, but Liz and Nate take on a case that weaves in and out of several dynamics around an accident, domestic abuse, and Momma’s house. Lots of heart in this book. Do yourself a favor and pre-o
Lowcountry Bookshop was definitely up to Susan Boyer’s usually fantastic storytelling abilities. Colleen and Liz and Nate follow a murder throughout Charleston to try find the killer and protect an potentially innocent woman.
Moments of mayhem ensue and the cloudy picture gets even cloudier before the sun finally shines through. Trying to watch them as they search for clues can be humorous or dangerous or confusing, depending on the day and time.
Liz’s quirky family and friends do not disappoint.
This book and a glass of Cheerwine will make your day. Susan Boyer’s seventh Liz Talbot mystery hits it out of the park again.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and reviewed it voluntarily.
LowCountry Bookshop is the latest (7th) in the Liz Talbot LowCountry Southern mystery series set in fictional coastal Stella Maris, near Charleston. PI’s Liz & her husband Nate are hired by a Charleston attorney to prove Poppy, a mail carrier who’s quite attached to several people on her mail route, was not the driver of a vehicle which “hit & run”. A local businessman died when a vehicle hit him near his driveway during a blinding rainstorm. Poppy called 911 to report finding the body, so was immediately considered by the police as the most likely perp! The attorney’s client paying for this investigation remains anonymous to Liz & Nate, which is unsettling to them since they might find information which could hurt their unknown client? It’s a complex case which takes many twists and turns before concluding. This book reveals the love & caring in Liz & Nate’s marriage & includes many zany antics by Liz’s family! Colleen, the paranormal character, makes appearances, though I think is less involved in solving this mystery than in prior books. I feel like I’m a close friend of the Talbot family as I read each Liz Talbot book!!
I laughed, teared up & thoroughly enjoyed this book, so highly recommend! Susan Boyer is THE BEST Southern coastal cozy mystery writer, hooking her readers with interesting characters, intriguing plots with twists & turns & lots of authentic Southern coastal charm! If you’ve not read other books in this series you’ll still understand & love this mystery, but will immediately want to read the entire series from the beginning! Boyer hit a HOMERUN with this book! I’m a big fan of the series, so thrilled to receive ARC through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
