USA TODAY Bestseller andAGATHA AWARD Winner for Best First Novel FULL OF SIMMERING SUSPENSE AND INTRIGUE… “Imaginative, empathetic, genuine, and fun, Lowcountry Boil is a lowcountry delight.” – Carolyn Hart, Author of What the Cat Saw “It’s a simmering gumbo of a story full of spice, salt, heat and shrimp. She had me guessing, detouring for a few laughs then doubling back for another clue right … laughs then doubling back for another clue right until the last chapter.” – The Huffington Post
PI Liz Talbot is a modern Southern belle: she blesses hearts and takes names. She carries her Sig 9 in her Kate Spade handbag, and her golden retriever, Rhett, rides shotgun in her hybrid Escape. When her grandmother is murdered, Liz high-tails it back to her South Carolina island home to find the killer. But when her police-chief brother shuts her out of the investigation, she opens her own. Then her long-dead best friend pops in and things really get complicated. As more folks turn up dead, Liz must use more than just her wits and charm to keep her family safe, chase down clues from the hereafter, and catch a psychopath before he catches her.
Praise for LOWCOUNTRY BOIL:
“Plenty of secrets, long-simmering feuds, and greedy ventures make for a captivating read…Boyer’s chick lit PI debut charmingly showcases South Carolina island culture.” – Library Journal
“I love this book. And you will too. Witty, droll, clever–and just a tad quirky! This light-hearted and authentically Southern mystery is full of heart, insight, and a deep understanding of human nature. Susan M. Boyer is a fresh new voice in crime fiction!” – Hank Phillippi Ryan, Anthony, Agatha & Macavity Award-Winning Author of The Other Woman
“Pulls the reader in like the draw of a riptide with a keeps-you-guessing mystery full of romance, family intrigue, and the smell of salt marsh on the Charleston coast. A welcome visit home with people you want to know and, in some cases, are glad you aren’t related to. A fun summer read!”- Cathy Pickens, Author of the Southern Fried Mysteries and Charleston Mysteries
“Twisted humor has long been a tradition in Southern literature (maybe it’s the heat and humidity), and Boyer delivers it with both barrels. In lesser hands, all the hijinks could be distracting, but not in Lowcountry Boil. Boyer’s voice is so perky that no matter what looney mayhem her characters commit, we happily dive in with them. An original and delightful read.” – Betty Webb, Mystery Scene Magazine
“What do you get when you cross a Southern mystery, a ghost of a warning, a love triangle and a savvy protagonist who will stop at nothing? Easy, you get a page turning read–Lowcountry Boil.” – Donnell Ann Bell,Bestselling Author of The Past Came Hunting

I picked out this book because the owner of the bookstore recommended it. I’m so glad she did. It held my attention, and I’ll be looking for the second book in this series.
What a great series! Start with the first and read them all.
Low Country Boil
I was gifted this book from the author with no promises of a review. The thoughts in my review are mine and not influenced by anything other than the book itself.
his was a fun story set in the south. Liz Talbot is working in Greenville South Carolina when an old friend made contact with her and told her it was time to go home to …
This was my first book by Susan Boyle. After hearing many good things about this author I finally read this. I loved Nancy Drew growing up but hadn’t read much in the way of detective stories since. Lowcountry Boil is a lighthearted, fun story and I look forward to following her other adventures on Stella Maris island.
Thank you to the author for …
This is book 1 of a fun-to-read series.
I have read the complete series. I really enjoyed the development of the charactors. Perfect location with the houses having their own personalities.
A real page turner to the end
Rather silly heroine, with really silly Southern women (not like any I’ve known), and I can’t get over the heroine’s overuse of hand sanitizer. Hard to believe she’s in the business of being an investigator. My first & last of this series.
This is the first in a series and I look forward to reading more. Love female private investigators and a little romance.
I loved Lowcountry Boil (book 1). I loved Liz and her family. The characters were fun and humorous. Initially, I had a hard time keeping up with some of the characters in the town, but a brief background of the characters was included in the beginning of the book that helped keep them straight. About ¼ of the way through the book I knew all …
Interesting characters, though the ghost aspect kind of turns me off.
Liz is living in Greenville, SC working as a PI with her partner/ex brother-in-law Nate when she gets a call from her brother to come home now. Blake tells Liz their grandmother, Emma Rae, has expectantly died. She had also recently seen her childhood friend, Colleen, who told her to go home. The odd thing about seeing Colleen is she died 14 years …
fell in love with Liz and her family during this story and look forward to reading the series. It provided a mystery, some humor, and a little romance. There was an ending I did not see coming. Loved and highly recommend.
Fun, light mystery story that takes place in the Charleston,SC, area! Characters are so likable, you can’t wait to see what happens next to this PI team. Loving this series.
I was immediately hooked on page one. Love Liz and her story! So excited to read this series and binge them all! Fantastic!
Couldn’t finish it. Boring
