“You’d better buckle up.”
Ms. McKenna is able to introduce you to a character and make them so lifelike and real, that you’re certain she’s telling you about someone she knows very well. I see nothing but success for this author, she’s definitely found her corner with the Forgotten Coast series.
Florida writers need to watch out, or better still read Dawn McKenna’s books. She’s the real … real deal…….Wayne Stinnett, author of the bestselling Jesse McDermitt Caribbean Adventure series
In Apalachicola, Florida, sinister things are afoot, as sinister things tend to be.
Lt. Maggie Redmond is called to a crime scene on St. George Island, where she is met with the body of Gregory Boudreaux. The medical examiner calls it a suicide, but no one knows that Maggie has a horrible connection to the dead man.
When Gregory’s uncle, Bennett Boudreaux, the richest and scariest man in town, takes a sudden interest in Maggie, people start to wonder, Maggie included. Maggie knows he may suspect her of killing his nephew, but she finds herself slowly drawn to the man.
As Maggie fights to help a young girl escape the clutches of a volatile drug dealer who’d love to see Maggie dead, she also struggles to hide her dark link to a dead man, and her burgeoning relationship with her boss, Sheriff Wyatt Hamilton.
Unfortunately, secrets have a way of revealing themselves at low tide.

I’m always looking for new Florida authors who can both tell a great story and write in prose that makes me envious. Great characters, dialogue and mystery are her hallmarks. Dawn Lee McKenna writes about Apalachicola, and life on the waterfront and bayous in a manner that kept reminding me of James Lee Burke. If you haven’t read her Forgotten Coast Florida Suspense Series yet, you’re missing out.
Could immediately tell the writing was a cut above just a couple pages in. Looking forward to having a new series (and author) to read.
Great introduction to the world and characters of the Forgotten Coast. Look forward to reading more and more.
Dawn Lee McKenna a masterful story-teller with a gift for creating unforgettable and alluring characters. Her talent for blending local Florida Gulf Coast authentic flavor with intriguing plots and magnificent characters is second-to-none. This and all of Dawn’s books, are must-reads and will leave you feeling like you’re part of the action and wanting more!
Dawn Lee McKenna’s books are totally original with characters and setting you’ll remember all your life. I have read them all three times.
A very promising new series with great characters, set in an area I love. This is the first of 7 books set in the Florida Panhandle. The books build on each other and it’s absolutely necessary to read them in order…one book picks up where the previous book leaves off.
Dawn is probably my favourite author in the Caribbean Suspense genre. Her characters are engaging, her writing flows smoothly, and she blends a touch of humour with suspenseful plots. The series gets better and better as it goes!
I wasn’t expecting to laugh out loud with this book but McKenna writes brilliant dialogue and there were some surprisingly funny moments in this book. The opening scene grabbed me and the characters are enthralling. Loooooooove the villain… but I shall say no more.
I did not feel that this ended in a cliff hanger. The main part of the story resolves and just like life, there are many more threads of story to explore in the future. I laughed and chuckled in places. Loved the animals as well as the characters and I look forward to reading more about them.
I have the next 3 books in my queue.
I love this whole series of books.
I have read this book at least three times. This entire series is one of my favorites ever. Dawn is so fantastic at building a character’s life and story in a way that makes you give a damn. I can’t ever put her books down. And Apalachicola itself is a character because Dawn is so fantastic at bringing a place to life and making the reader feel like they’e really there. Maggie is a truly strong female character with flaws and scars and when she gets knocked down she always gets right back up. And this book started it all! Cannot recommend it enough. It’s truly the definition of unputdownable.
I have loved reading all of her books! She has a talent for making you feel like you’re in the South!
Dawn is one of my favorite authors. Her characters and dialogue are wonderful and her books are exciting with just the right dashes of humor and suspense.
A great book about police work in a small, coastal town of Apalachicola Florida. Goid characters and plot.
I loved the characters in this book and how it revolved around a small town.
I finished Low Tide by Dawn Lee McKenna…great story and characters! And I am now reading Riptide by the same author…a continuation of the same story line. Loving it too! I believe there are 5-6 in this set.
Tragic crime story. Okay plot. Good character development and introduction to the people who I guess will be in the rest of the series. Hoping the rest of the series has some better plots for these good characters that were developed in this story.
