This book was a pleasant surprise. I love Mary Connealy’s historical fiction books, but I don’t love contemporary fiction as much as I do historical fiction, so I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this series.
This book was wonderful! It has a delightful balance of believable characters, great storyline, and sweet romance. Tru and Ben both have things to work trough with how they look at life, and I like that they realize they might need to change.
Great Story
This was a beautiful story about faith and the true meaning of forgiveness. But what do you do when you have a stalker, and people around you are bullies.
I wondered how much I’d like a contemporary story by one of my favorite historical cowboy authors, but thankfully she appropriately added in a ranch with a cast full of family that I look forward to getting to know more about. Some reviewers mentioned editing issues, and yes, I saw a spattering of things a half-decent proofreader could clean up. While the story was a bit simpler, less complex, than the historical books I’m used to by Mrs. Connealy, I still cared about the hero and heroine and wanted to know what happened. This is a good, easy read suitable for a gentle distraction on a lazy afternoon, and I’ll continue on with the next book in the series.
Mary Connealy is one of my favorite authors. The Garrison’s Law series is a real page-turner! When I read the first book I thought the next one can’t get any better than that. Oh how wrong I was! every book in this series kept me reading well into the night. Totally recommend this series.
There are a lot of funny moments, mostly when Ben intentionally pushes Trudy’s buttons. The two characters argue a lot over turning the other cheek, but both realize where their beliefs need improvement. I thought the idea was thought provoking: Does turning the other cheek mean letting people get away with doing what’s wrong?

Oh how I loved this book! This author is known for historical fiction but she changed genre and did contemporary romantic suspense but it still has that “comedy” flair that she is known for! Although the suspense is there and it’s a tense situation, I love the conversations between Ben and Trudy! They are like oil and water, these two! They are so opposite in personality but, yet, so engaging! I couldn’t put this book down and already look forward to the next book in the series! Ben is a lawman and is very series about his job and Trudy is a self-help guru, spouting “turn the other cheek” philosophy. Ben can’t see how that philosophy could possibly work when there’s a stalker after Trudy! They changed each other and the reader gets the opportunity to see that happen! The secondary characters are equally fabulous! Come along for the ride!
This was a great story but definitely needed a proofreader. The characters were fantastic and the humor was typical Connealy. The mistakes didn’t cause me to dislike the book but they were blatant. The author is too good a writer for this.
I really don’t know how to rate this book. I didn’t care for Trudie or Ben. The stalker mystery was good but I just can’t see the H/h as a couple.
This author writes Inspirational Romance, or she used to anyway. I guess I shouldn’t compare this contemporary romance to the historical romance, Lassoed In Texas, which is my favorite by this author.
Trudy Jennings or ( Try-Blue ) as one man loves to call her, is a college professor. She’s also a writer with several bestselling pop psychology books. She loves to teach about life’s troubles and how to solve them with love.
Ben Garrison is a homicide detective and one of her students in her night class. On one night in particular Trudy walks out of the building and is attacked by her stalker Ralph Watson who keeps wanting her help. Ben has to pull the man off but Trudy’s turn the other cheek method, doesn’t file charges.
Can Ben keep her from getting hurt again? Will Trudy let him keep her safe?
These two are in for a wild ride.
Mary Connealy knows how to tell a story which keeps the reader wanting for more. The plot and characters were great. There are a lot of laugh out moments through out the book with Ben and Trudy. Not to mention her manager Liz and her housekeeper Eleanor.
A fun read.
