Sergeant Leisl Craig spent her life fighting for everything she’d earned including becoming a combat nurse—alone. Then cancer threatened to take it all away. Until now, she never needed anyone…and then she met Doc. For Sergeant Major Jason Lee Gordon, codename Doc, a Green Beret medic in a tight-knit special operations group, life happened, and he rolled with it. The easy-going charmer only … charmer only ever had to flash his dimples and women lined up outside his door, already half in love with the caring Doc. But casual hookups were growing old after seeing his friend and team leader, Outlaw, fall in love. He’d begun to think he’d never find his special someone until a sniper ambush brings him to a quiet, troubled nurse.
Focused on her own pain, she is unimpressed by the handsome soldier’s overtures, ignoring him as she worries what will become of her, of her career, and Pooch. But instead of being put off when she rebuffs him, he finds himself more intrigued, especially after overhearing Leisl pouring out her heart to a stray dog. Disturbed by her plight, he can’t walk away. Something about her pulls him in and Doc begins an all-out charm offensive to win over the red-haired nurse.
When the base is attacked by terrorists and his mission goes south, events unfold leading to secrets, old and new, that can tear apart their budding relationship. Can Doc accept her past and convince her to fight for a future together?

Fantastic story with a well developed characters. Leisl was such a great character and I really felt for her and her situation. Jason was a wonderful caring man. This story had lots of action and a great plot. Loved the chemistry and the steam. Secondary characters were also so well developed that I will be adding this author to ones I follow and read. Great addition to Susan Stoker’s world. If you enjoy military romance this one was great. I loved it!!
Loved this story. You get all the feels! You get the guys from the previous story with drop ins from wolf and his crew as well as Tex. Love this series especially when the characters that they pull to implant from Susan stokers world are a perfect fit to the story. Leisl and jason/‘Doc’ are adorable together. And so sweet. Smitten from first look he can’t help the draw to her. They go through ups and downs and a couple scares between her illness, a base attack, intel leak and subsequent hit squad ordered against his SOG and more injuries. Slowly we see info on Eastwood’s injury and possible mythical wounded warriors group (spin off series) when he disappears from a Germany hospital. Leisls story is sad and hard but she takes power back with the help of doc. And she opens up and acquires a family in the process. And pooch !!! Yayyy. Can’t wait for next book and Eastwood’s spin off.
An excellent book. Leisl was an army nurse stationed in Kuwait when she found out she had a terrible illness. She was worrying about leaving Pooch behind. She also meets “doc” a Green Beret” medic. There is a lot going on in this book. Budding love, danger, missions, terrible injuries. This was a very good story with lots of background and assignments.
Sergeant Leisl Craig spent her life fighting for everything she’d earned, alone. Then came cancer.
She meets Sergeant Major Jason Lee Gordon aka Doc, an easy-going Green Beret medic in a tight-knit special operations group.
Doc takes an interest in Leisl when he hears her pouring her heart out to a stray dog but Leisl is unimpressed. Doc takes it upon himself to convince her of his intentions, proving to her, time and again, that he will never leave her side.
This was, for me, a heartbreaking story reminicent of Susan Stoker’s Truck and Mary. Like Mary, Leisl was strong, doing her best to cope with the shitty circumstances that life had in store for her. Thank goodness that she had Doc and his family to show her that she need not feel so alone, that there were people willing cary her n her time of need.
Through Loving Leisl, Michele E. Gwynn reminds us, her readers, that there will always be “light at the end of the tunnel,” and that we should always have faith even when we are seemingly faced with obstacle after obstacle.
She reminds us to be strong, like Leisl. I thank the author for this reminder, and she will definitely on my list of authors to follow.

I liked that Ghost ,Wolf, and Tex were there and others from Susan’s world. This book was action packed. I laughed with the guys and I cried with Leisl when she was talking to Pooch. I liked that she was a woman with strength and courage. I also liked that Michele gave us info a new group that even Tex can’t find their teammate. Can’t wait for that one.
Loving Leisl by Michele E. Gwynn is the second book in her Green Beret series and part of Special Forces: Operation Alpha by Susan Stoker. This book also has Eastwood in it which starts Secondhand Soldier: PATCH COM.
First off I loved this book several reasons including how Wolf’s SEAL TEAM, Tex (Of course!), Pooch the dog that Leisl adopts (There’s a group that helps bring the special pets who have bonded with our military home) and gives a look ahead to Fatima’s story as well as Eastwood’s journey with his new unit.
Leisl has received bad news on her health but also has an emergency to deal with with Jason “Doc” Gordon arriving with his patient Eastwood in rather uncomfortable injury. He’s able to hand him off to Leisl and the surgeon. She’s always felt the Army was her family but with her health news she’ll turn to Doc for support. But when the Army hospital is hit by rockets her injuries will speed up her surgery state side. When new Intel comes in about a terrorist cell setting up an ambush for Wolf, Outlaw and his team will be called in to stop the attack and hopefully find out where Fatima is. Can Leisl’s surgery help save her and will Colorado Springs become her new home? Will Doc and his team be able to stop the ambush for Wolf and his SEALs?
Loved this book and can’t wait to read Fatima’s story.
