When AP political reporter Lorena Hickok—Hick—is assigned to cover Eleanor Roosevelt in the 1932 campaign, the two women become deeply involved. Their relationship begins with mutual romantic passion, matures through stormy periods of enforced separation and competing interests, and warms into an enduring, encompassing friendship documented by 3300 letters.
Set during the chaotic years of the … years of the Great Depression, the New Deal, and the Second World War, Loving Eleanor reveals Eleanor Roosevelt as a complex, contradictory, and entirely human woman who is pulled in many directions by her obligations to her husband and family and her role as the nation’s First Lady. Hick is revealed as an accomplished journalist, who, at the pinnacle of her career, gives it all up for the woman she loves. Then, as Eleanor is transformed into Eleanor Everywhere, First Lady of the World, Hick must create her own independent, productive life. Loving Eleanor is a profoundly moving novel that illuminates a relationship we are seldom privileged to see, celebrating the depth and durability of women’s love.

A very interesting love story and a great read!!
A remarkable woman
well researched, told in a very readable format.
A book that often resurfaces in my thoughts and needs to be re-read.
Felt like the real story, truthful
Great story about one of the most loved women of our times and for good reasons. Historical and authentic.
I learned so much about this time in history especially about the depression.
Enjoyed it
Very well written with great attention to detail regarding the time period (early to mid 1900’s)
enjoyed this book
I had my suspicions about Mrs Roosevelt from what I had heard but didn’t know for sure. This book helped me understand her better.
ITT was an easy read. It wasn’t a book that I would re-read. So maybe three stars. Good but no great.
This was a great blend of well researched history and fascinating extrapolation on personal relationships.
Amazing story of love forbidden. Friendship!
Always had interest in how Eleanor faced the behavior of her husband and mistress flagrantly behaved in her home. Eleanor worked hard in representing the United States for her husband, women’s rights and the United Nations to name a few. Very surprised with the content of the book Eleanor. Just never was aware of this side of her private life. Believe her friends spurred her on in accomplishing her goals.
I loved the historical impact although it dragged a bit at times .
Another look at Mrs Roosevelt’s life. She has been described as having little personal love and appreciation. If true this aspect gave her some comfort
A great look into Eleanor’s private life.
Ms Albert writes fiction as if it were history. Or history as if it were fiction.
Great read.
