New release! Another five-star winner from Dorothy Wiley for romance fans. A story filled with adventure and meticulously written, Love’s Whisper is a book you will remember long after the last page is read. Some of my favorite characters return in this fast-paced tale of the frontier. Don’t miss it!
This author’s books are an entire family historical series and is my all-time favorite! I anxiously await each new book by Ms. Wiley. Wonderful characters of true early Americans!
Another great book by Dorothy Wiley. Her books follow history with fictional characters. I have read all of them.
It was great to be back with the Wyllie’ family and their extended family and friends in Kentucky again. The story picks up where book three in the series, Love’s Glory, leaves off and we are in Virginia with Little John and his wife Allison and their young son. Little John’s cousin Polly is there too after finishing her schooling so she can return to her family home in Kentucky with them via her uncle’s home. Once again, I was back in the early 1800’s, in the tough frontier that is still being settled as there is talk of wars, politics, the Louisiana Purchase and expanding westward even more.
The family ties are strong and never waiver. The help at the horse farm and the cattle farm are treated with respect and they in turn care for the family they cook and clean for. Enter Liam Roberts who works for Polly’s dad and sparks fly when they first meet at her uncle’s horse farm where he’s gone along with her oldest younger brother, Samuel, to fetch her home Their feelings take them by surprise and they each are unaware if the other feels the same way but their feelings are much more obvious to everyone around them. This is definitely their story but also Melly and Baldy’s too, the physician/preacher and his wife we’ve met before! Watching the characters interactions whether between siblings, parents and their children, aunts and uncles with their nieces and nephews, grandparents with their grandchildren or husband and wife were enlightening and filled with love and affection and all the characters from the oldest to the youngest had a depth to them. No words or acts were wasted in the telling of the story. The vivid descriptions of the lands, the animals, the businesses and the towns, the storms, the goods, the homes and their weapons, food and dress made me feel like I was there. The story flowed smoothly no matter who was at the center of that chapter and story line since everything was tied together nicely. I kept wanting to read more as my emotions were continually engaged with so many stories within a story. The love and esteem the characters felt for one another was real and the dialogue and the actions proved it over and over again. There could be family disagreements and arguments that were thoughtfully talked through until whoever was involved felt the reality of the situation and could meet it head on. Taking us through the woods and the storms and having the cougar so involved was heart wrenching at times. I felt the chemistry, friendship and love between the various characters and how much they would do for one another.
There are family and friends, God’s word throughout, sickness, injuries, health, fear, hurt, sadness, honor, business transactions, togetherness, levity, happiness, smiles and laughter along with lots of loving and love. God’s hand seemed to permeate all activities and actions and left a feeling of awe without being preachy. The epilogue gave some closure but left me wanting more since there is so much more story to tell with this generation of Wyllies! The list of characters and which book they were tied to along with what business was a caring touch by the author. The inspirations and facts behind the story was a nice addition and I learned a few things about that part of history which is one of my favorite time periods. I look forward to reading more books in this series.
Wiley has fast become a favorite author of historical romance set deep in Colonial times and the expansion of the United States as we know it today. I have read all ten of her books that involve the first and second generation of Wyllies and I can’t wait for more! I will read anything she writes and look forward to doing so for many more years!
Favorite Quote: He cupped her cheeks tenderly in his warm hands. “We both did what we needed to do at the time. Let’s not look back with regrets or blame. Let’s look forward with all the hope of tomorrow.”
