This is the 1st book I read by Naomi Rawlings. I loved this book’s storyline. I loved the Christian theme in this story. I loved Mabel’s character. I loved Hiram’s character. I loved the ending. Awesome job Ms. Rawlings.
What an awesome book to begin a series! I was captured from the beginning with the true heart and eagerness to please God that showed through in Hiram! The author does an excellent job describing how caring and genuine he was with those who came into his office with valid complaints, even though it was beyond his ability to help them out. When Mabel came in with her determined love for and belief in her brother and his friends it seemed they would make quite a pair. All of the hurdles and danger they went through kept me glued to the pages until the end. I have to say there’s always a pull for me toward books that all or in part are set in my home state too! I have not read the other books in this series yet but the first one is pulled up and ready to start. This is a great book, easy to read in one setting. I would highly recommend it to any who love Christian historical fiction with some danger thrown in.
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author but this review is my voluntary and honest opinion.
This is the first book in a series about Eagle Harbor and introduces the reader to the place and the members of the family that settled there and made a difference. Hiram, is a young man intent on going to law school so that he can help people. At least, he thinks that law school is the way for him to do this. In this novella, we see that his integrity and sense of fairness are sufficient to prove the innocence of Mabel’s brother and they soon realize that they care for one another. Book was easy to read and the characters are well developed and it just increased my interest to read the books that follow in the series! This book is included in the collection of novels by other authors called Love’s Treasure. I look forward to reading the rest of the books included.
5 stars
I received a free copy of the clean historical novel Love’s Violet Sunrise: Eagle Harbor book 0 formerly known as Love’s Violet Sunrise ( American State Flower series: Wisconsin, published in 2016) by Naomi Rawlings in the 14 book collection Love’s Treasure – A Christian Romance Collection – Limited Edition and this review was given freely.
A bittersweet battle against injustice ending with hopes for a new beginning.
Set in 1853 in the German settled area of Wisconsin, USA, this novel features compassionate law student/ legal clerk Hiram Cummings’ struggles with his boss Mr. Vandergriff ‘s greed and corruption, with the plight of immigrant German farmers as well as with his Christian morals and the desire to keep his job to pay to finish law school which are blended with Hiram’s growing attraction to Mabel Krause and his struggle to clear her brother Dietrich Krause of arson and murder.
The characters were well done.
There was a bit of excitement and suspense, but nothing anxiety-causing.
The story flowed smoothly.
Although time passed quickly in the story it didn’t seem like the storytelling was rushed.
Love’s Violet Sunrise (Eagle Harbor #0.5), my first read from author Naomi Rawlings, an author I’d wanted to read for some time yet never got around to. I was going to start with Love’s Unfading Light
(Eagle Harbor #1) when I discovered this prequel novella. A well-written novella with memorable characters. December seemed to be my month for new authors, January & February & then March continued the trend, and now April. “I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.” The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
I just finished reading “Love’s Violet Sunrise” by Naomi Rawlings. It is the prequel to her series but is also included in the Love’s Treasure Collection series that is a collection of stories by a variety of Christian authors.
In Naomi’s story, Hiram is someone who is studying to be a lawyer and just wants to help people. He has completed two of the four years of schooling required and is now working to save money to complete his law degree. He wanted to become a lawyer to help people who didn’t have others to help them. Three years prior, he saved a family friend from a murder conviction by proving that he couldn’t possibly have been the killer. That fed his desire to help others.
Mabel enters his office because she has been told that he would help her brother, who is also facing an arson and murder charge, along with three of his immigrant friends. Hiram initially brushes her off by telling her that he is not a lawyer and can’t help her but then he discovers a sinister plot that he believes is the real cause of the murders. He is under the gun to prove Mabel’s brother’s innocence before he faces the trial that could end his life.
While on this journey of discovery, he and Mabel find love along the way. This is a sweet story that is a quick and easy read. It is clean and wholesome and full of sweet moments.
