5. Book 5: Deceived & Honoured: The Baron’s Vexing Wife:5 stars
I received a free copy of Deceived & Honoured: The Baron’s Vexing Wife (Love’s Second Chance: Tales of Lords and Ladies, #5) by Bree Wolf, and this review was given freely.
Cunning, subterfuge and well intentions help Derek achieve his goal, the hand of Lady Madeline. The romance of Derek Ainsworth and Lady Madeline flows easily. This clean and sweet romance has a strong theme of doubt of self-worth but a reformed Rogue, a cute three-year-old and loving interfering family, and friends provide both balance and humor.
6. Book 6: Sacrificed and Reclaimed- The Soldier’s Daring Widow:5 stars 5 stars
I received a free copy of the clean historical novel Sacrificed and Reclaimed- The Soldier’s Daring Widow(Love’s Second Chance: Tales of Lords & Ladies Book 6) by Bree Wolf and this review was given freely.
Separated by the need for adventure, injured at war, and left for dead Edward Dunning returns to England broken in body and mind to find his wife Megan has grown into a strong and independent wife. The majority of this novella expresses the fear, despair, and desires of Megan and Edward both before and during their reunion. This is an emotional romance featuring contemplation of suicide, a child almost falling to her death, and a happy ending expressing joy in the future.
7. Book 7: Destroyed & Restored: The Baron’s Courageous Wife:5 stars
I received a free copy of the clean historical novel Love’s Second Chance Series book #12: Destroyed & Restored: The Baron’s Courageous Wife by Bree Wolf and this review was given freely.
Matthew suffering from regret, insecurity regarding his self-worth, and nightmares after a duel has gone wrong vows to do anything his cousin Tristan requires.
Coincidence and a threat to use Lady Adelaide as collateral at a card game embroils Matthew Baron Whitworth in a marriage of convenience to the woman he has been secretly attracted to. Complexed, interesting, and easy flowing this novel focuses on such topics as legitimacy and birthright vs blood and emotions as the true meaning of family and recovering from abuse. There are some twists and secrets but the end is ultimately heartwarming.
8. Book 8: Despised & Desired: The Marquess’ Passionate Wife also Tales of Damsels and Knights book 1:5 stars
I purchased a copy of the clean historical romance Despised & Desired: The Marquess’ Passionate Wife (Love’s Second Chance book 8/ Tales of Damsels and Knights book 1) by Bree Wolf and this review was given freely
Another excellent story by Bree Wolf. Despised and Desired starts out as the two before with sadness, angst, and intrigue. Somewhere along the way the two main characters, Ellie and Rick .succeed against adversity and form a deep and lasting love, heal the broken hearts of the females of the house, and solve a mystery.
Four stories of love, second chances and adventure.
The characters and plots are very well developed and keep the reader engaged.
There are such well written characters that they are easy to love or hate as the author intended.
There is mystery and suspense as well as self discovery and a wonderful helping of romance!
The box set is exactly the way I like to follow the stories as they overlap with the characters so it makes it more in depth but they can be read as a stand alone as well.
I look forward to reading the next box set!
Rules To Be Broken
Of course those dratted rules! One logically keeps all the rules. But love is not logical and this story is about falling in love is it not? A happily ever after one at that!
Hearts To Be Mended
A short but sweet read and what a delight! I love these characters that Ms Bree paints for us. I especially loved Abigail and her genuine selflessness. Also Griffith who was willing to look a little closer into Abigail’s character and felt her heart. I am left swooning with a definite smile on my face.
Winning Her Hand
Here we go again. This time we need to ask, Is this sensible? Can ‘sensible’ be a good reason to marry someone? Oh, how I hope not! Would ‘sensible’ make for a happy life if one is only ‘sensible’ with the other? Where would love and passion fit in? I’m glad that this couple found their happily ever after whether it was ‘sensible’ or not.
Conquering Her Heart
Swooning with a smile! A short but sweet read and what a delight! I love these characters that Ms Bree paints for us. I especially loved Abigail and her genuine selflessness. Also Griffith who was willing to look a little closer into Abigail’s character and felt her heart. I am left swooning with a definite smile on my face.
A selection of four stories that can be read as stand-alone. They each have a uniquely interesting way of telling how the era was in those times. They are clean stories. They do talk of rape, bulling ,survival and loss. They have to learn to trust and forgive. I received an ARC and I love Bree Wolf’s stories.I highly recommend reading these books.
I really like these novels about the flawed people coming to believe in themselves and love again. They are written very well and will be books I read more than once.
Everyone deserves a second chance. Nice stories.
I enjoyed these stories with interesting situations. The characters were intriguing and the stories moved quickly but not too predictably. Romantic but not too steamy.
I really liked this series of books. The characters were diverse and interesting, the plots exciting, and the endings happy. The only negative was the beginnings of the first two stories. The way the characters were introduced was confusing and I was lost as to who was who, where, and why. After about three chapters, everything became clear and the rest of the stories were very good.
Author is a talented writer with eleven good reads in this series. If you enjoy this genre, these books will not disappoint.
Ruined & Redeemed: A tragic story, one the leaves one feeling sad and distressed for victims of violence and abuse everywhere. As a facilitator of support groups, I have heard stories like these, and they certainly fuel the crime series we see on television. However, one facet was brought out very clearly, that Charlotte was a survivor and when faced with death, she made a choice to live. When she finds herself under the care of Lord Ashwood as a companion to his younger sister, she feels safe in the role of a servant. However, her world is turned upside down once more when Sebastian Campbell comes to take refuge from his own family with Lord Ashwood. When he sees Charlotte, or Lotte as she calls herself, he sees her hurt and pain, but there is another level at which deep calls to deep, and he instinctively knows that she is the woman he wants in his life. The story is well written with a good flow of language and a well thought out plot.
Betrayed & Blessed: A suspenseful Regency romance, this book is well written but at times I found myself getting frustrated with the hero Certainly Tristan displays the results of a lifetime of conditioning and brainwashing, making one realise just how scary propaganda of any type can be. Beth, on the other hand, has lived in the shadows, not understanding that her life is very different to what it could have been. Both young people have been living a lie, but in her way, Beth is the stronger of the two personalities. Fortunately, Tristan has a faithful friend in Derek, who realises that someone is plotting against Tristan, but circumstances are manipulated so cleverly that the truth remains hidden.
Deceived & Honoured: Well written, this book touched me in a way that I didn’t expect. Most Regency romance novels either take the stance of a relationship between a couple of equal status or that the heroine moves from rags to riches. It’s unusual to find the heroine having to take a step down into poverty from riches. When Madeline finds herself being compromised by the wrong man, she is furious. She never gave Derek a chance to explain why he came after her at the ball, and he had too much pride to force the issue. We first met Derek, protector to his best friend, in a previous novel in this series, and he remains as honourable and steadfast throughout this book.
Sacrificed & Reclaimed: In this post-Napoleonic war romance, I found myself being drawn into the sadness that surrounded Meagan – firstly when her husband went to war; then when he was proclaimed dead; and thirdly when he unexpectedly returned a broken man. In this modern era, we have been made aware of the devastating effects of war, PTSD, rehabilitation of soldiers and the bombardment of horror over international news almost on a daily basis. However, when we read the history books, the horrific impact of war on the men and their families of the Regency era is glossed over and apart from memorising dates, it has little impact on us 200 years later. On the other hand, Edward is suffering not only from PTSD but also from a very deep depression. He rues the mistakes he made, little realising that whilst he has changed and is another man altogether, his precious wife is too as she has been left with the aftermath of having to deal with his supposed death. In many ways, this was a tragic story, one that jerked at the heartstrings, but the triumphant message is that love conquers all.
As with all the other books by this author, this box set is clean and can be read by any age group. It is part of a series and as such characters from previous books also appear in this one and they do end on a very positive and happy note. I received a copy of this book for free and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I read advance copies of all of these delightful stories and am very happy to recommend them as a box set. Each story can be read as a stand-alone though the characters from previous books make appearances in other books from time to time too.
Here is my review of this box set:
5. Ruined & Redeemed: The Earl’s Fallen Wife
This story is full of compassion, forgiveness and the building of trust and love between people. It is an amazing second chances story and is written in a way that yanked (yes, really yanked) at my heartstrings and every now and then I found myself crying and the next moment feeling totally elated or grinning. I love it when an author is able to make one ‘feel’ with just the use of a few well placed words and this is what Bree Wolf is able to do.
It is also a very powerful love story with a mystery that slowly unfolds. In it you will find a villain who really goes out of his way to harm those that he is in contact with and then there are the family members and friends who support the two very strong main characters throughout the book.
6. Betrayed and Blessed: The Viscount’s Shrewd Wife
What a very shrewd lady Beth is! She is clever and loving, has a mystery to solve about who her father is but when she finds out, that is when her real troubles begin.
Tristan we learned about in book 4 of this series as he is Henrietta’s baby brother. There is someone who wants his downfall and his life and thoughts are manipulated constantly.
When Tristan and Beth meet it is definitely the beginning of a love that cannot be contained and it goes without say that there is the normal “does he/she? doesn’t he/she?” thing going on between them.
Bree Wolf always seems to have the extremely interesting characters and storyline to write about and has not failed me yet. I loved this story and am very happy to recommend it as well as the rest of this series.
7. Deceived & Honoured – The Baron’s Vexing Wife
Take a young lady who is born into the life and a young gentleman who is awarded the status of Baron by the Crown for his war efforts, put them together and shake well – the result is an extremely interesting one with lots of ‘Should I?’ or ‘Shouldn’t I?’ by both of them and yet neither of them seems able to say those three magic words to one another.
Throw in a bit of jealousy, a lot of ‘I’m useless’ and the story gets even more intriguing.
Then make sure that the story is written by Bree Wolf and you have a page-turner that will entertain you and keep you wanting more and more stories by her.
Have you guessed that I loved this book?
8. Sacrificed and Reclaimed : The Soldier’s Daring Widow
This really was a very different type of story for this series. The returning soldier, Edward is a confused and injured man who believes he does not deserve his family, but Meagan, his wife has other ideas about this.
It is an emotional second chances love story that made me feel for both of them.
I loved Meagan’s strength of character and her determination and also the fragile side that Edward showed.
Though of novella length, Bree Wolf has packed a lot into this story and the words flow off the page with speed in a very enjoyable way. I am very happy to recommend the novella and hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
I received free advance copies of these books and the above are my voluntary and unbiassed reviews.
The characters will take on modern language and behaviors and sometimes their actions/thoughts are very metta and I didn’t feel them all that believable. However, I read the books with anticipation and they were well put together plots.
5 stars
I received a free copy of Rules to Be Broken by Bree Wolf and this review was given freely.
I enjoyed seeing the change in Diana from being a jealous embittered mother who ignored her son Benedict and lusted after her cousin Rose’s husband Lord Norwood to a loving mother and a caring wife to Arthur the Earl of Stanhope.
5 stars
I received a free copy of Hearts to be Mended by Bree Wolf and this review is given freely.
Hearts to be Mended picks up Diana and Arthur’s lives from where they leave off in Rules to Broken but also features two new clean romances. The love stories of Henry with Arthur’s sister Eleanor and Henry’s brother Nick with Eleanor’s cousin Connie are troubled but ultimate end happily. Written in the Regency style, this novel ties together couples from prior novels,is suspenseful, contains a family scandal, has lots of well meaning meddling family members, multiple babies, and ends with a cliffhanger.
5 stars
I received a free copy of the novella Winning Her Hand book 7 of A Forbidden Love Novella Series by Bree Wolf and this review was given freely.
Winifred and Trent’s romance is a simple and sweet romance involving a man finally having the courage to express his love after a 5 year separation and a woman who finally accepts that what she feels for her childhood friend is a strong and abiding love. Seeking the happiness her parents had, Winifred forms a pact with her brother Griffin to enter a marriage based on compatibility rather than for love. Realistic characters, some jealousy, seemly random meetings, and a cliffhanger make this an interesting and fast paced read.
5 stars
I received a free copy of the novella Conquering Her Heart book 8 of A Forbidden Love Novella by Bree Wolf and this review was given freely.
Winifred and Griffin’s pact continues in this fast paced novella with Griffin being the target of his mischievous matchmaking married sister. Winifred seeing through the facade that recently orphaned Abigail has erected to protect herself against money hungry suitors matches Abigail with her caring if slightly clueless brother. Joined in solidarity, Abigail and Griffin make a pact of their own. I loved the fiercely loyal and loving personality of Abigail, the crotchety Grandfather, the humor evoked by the multiple conniving yet lovingly interfering characters contained in this book, and of course the happy ending.
