Danica Vargas’ boring, wine country life turns upside when she’s hit by a baseball and lands in the hospital. When the gorgeous baseball player who accidentally batted her with his ball, pays her a visit, she has no idea the sexy stranger is her former crush. He’s about five feet taller than the last time she saw him. And a thousand times hotter. If she’d known there was ever a chance of him … chance of him coming back, (crack in the head or not), Danica wouldn’t have kissed his older brother last week.
Now, she’s caught between two of Napa’s Valley’s notorious Santino brothers. One of them wants everlasting love, the other is a player.
In school, Luca Santino’s best friend’s older sister Danica was a knockout. She swatted his heart around like a ball… except when they were making out in her bedroom.
Back in Napa Valley a decade later with his semi-pro baseball team, Luca rediscovers the girl he loved. As a woman, she’s even more enchanting than he remembered. As a couple, their chemistry hits a home run every time…and Luca wants to play for keeps.
Older and wiser, maybe this time, they’ll realize what started long ago wasn’t a game.

Second chance scores a home run
I really like the author’s writing style and the solidarity and girl power of heroine local reporter Danica and her housemates. Danica is a bit clueless, though, chasing a man who flirts one minute then goes all remote and polite the next. Danny Deep aka Luca, the baseballer from her youth, has a hard time of it and I liked him for his unrequited hope, but he does make some moves later in the book that are a bit harsh. Still, the conflict made for a good romantic story, especially with the reminiscences from their teen years sprinkled in.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book provided by the author; this is my voluntary and honest review.
A lighthearted contemporary romance, there were laugh out loud moments as well as a chance of remedying mistakes of the past. Landing in hospital with a concussion, Danica doesn’t recognise the baseball player in her hospital room as so much has changed since she last saw him. As Danica and Luca reconnect, there are misunderstandings and family dynamics at play that interfere with the strong feelings between the main characters. Through it all, there is always Lulu who has the perfect solution for every problem. The story is romantic and comes to a happy conclusion. Although part of a series and many of the characters from other books in the series appear in this one too, it is nevetheless a standalone. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This is a super sweet story of two childhood loves finally finding each other again. The difficulty in their romance seems little out of blue but eventually everything resolves in a happy ending. The characters are endearing and story in well written. No super graphic steamy scenes. Was hard to put down once I started even though I’m not really into anything sports related.
Wonderful
Danica enjoyed Harmon at the paper and has been trying to get Michael to ask her out. While at a baseball for the Senoma Crushers she is in line at the snack shack and didn’t see the baseball that hit her in the NBA back of the head and knocked her out. Lucas is now playing for a team close to his family. But he accidentally knocks out his teenage crush. Now they have see where it goes.
He fell hard for her when they were younger. Being her younger brother’s best friend gave him the excuse he needed to stay close. Too bad she didn’t know just how bad he had it. An interesting fun light read with some angst and good friends. While this female lead is better than the last one it isn’t by much. If this author can bring stronger women into play she would keep my attention better. As it is you can see the difference as this author works to become better and more comfortable with her craft and characters. It could also be that this author’s audience is younger than I am and therefore more open to the mood swings and sometimes childish actions of her characters.
Danica and Luca have a history from when they were in high school – and made out with each other every chance they had. But then she went to college and they lost contact with each other. Now she is trying to figure out his older brother Michael who is sending her mixed messages. One minute he is kissing her, the next he is treating her as nothing more than a friend.
Then she gets his by a baseball hit by one of the new members of the team. He comes to the hospital to see her but she doesn’t realize who he is. Seems Luca has grown up and looks nothing like the kid she knew in high school. Will they be able to pick up where they left off? Or will one of his brothers create a rift between them?
Luca Santino of the Napa Valley Santino family, aka Danny Deep of the Sonoma Crushers baseball team, has been in love with Danica Vargas since they were teenagers. They had one whirlwind summer courtship fifteen years ago. Since that time they have grown up and moved on. Danica is concentrating on her career as a journalist. Luca is pursuing a career in baseball.
Danica is dating Michael Santino when they attend a Sonoma Crushers baseball game. Danica is knocked unconscious by a home run ball hit by none other than Danny Deep, aka Luca Santino. What a way to reunite with your teenage crush!
This story has some interesting twists and turns. I really enjoyed Danica and Luca’s story. Even though it is the second book in the Love in the Vineyard series, it can be read as a stand-alone. However, I recommend that you start at the beginning of the series and get to know the whole wonderful Santino family.
Luca and Danica’s story is definitely a home run in my book. Possibly even more romantic than the first book in the series, I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the relationships between the girls.
After reading book one and loving it, of course I had to read book two.
It did not fail me, I loved it.
Danica and Luca are so sweet together and he’s been in love with her for so long it’s just adorable.
Can’t say I blame Danica for not recognising Luca after all those years, I’ve done the same thing.
I really hope there’s going to be another book, I just can’t get enough of those Santino brothers.
I loved this book! This is the second book in the series and I can’t wait for the third to come out. Please write it soon!
Ms. Kisset does a great job writing romance and being from Northern California I love that she keeps her Sonoma and Napa scenes accurate to real life.
I bought the book on release day and finished it in one day because I couldn’t put it down.
I really liked this story. I loved Luca and his devotion to Danica. These two were clearly always meant to be together, they just needed the right time and place.
Can’t wait for the next story in the series.
I loved this easy-to-read romance. Without plot spoilers – you’re in for all the highlights and lowlights of love, lust, betrayal and forgiveness!
5 Stars
Wine Country, Romance and Baseball – Great Story!
This is a different sort of romance. It was very good! The wine and baseball angles gave the story real texture. The author did a great job with this book. The characters were deep and complex. The dialog and emotion was very real. Nothing in the book seemed trite or stale. There was quite a bit of sexual tension. Even though I skipped over the very steamy parts, I look forward to reading more of this author’s work.
A sweet story about forgotten love. This is the 2nd story in the Wine Country Series.
Danica Vargas has a crush on Michael Santino. When Michael asked her to join him at the local baseball game of the Crushers she thinks he’s finally asked her out on a date. Upon arrival, she finds out that is not the case and is devastated as goes to the snack stand. While standing in line she gets hit by a baseball, and is rushed to the hospital.
Danny Deep a/k/a Luca Santino is the baseball player who hit the home run ball that hit Danica. Danny arrives at the hospital with a enormous bouquet of flowers for Danica. They meet again at the Santino 4th of July celebration, Danny said they know each other and he kisses her again. Danica has no idea what he is talking about.
Will Danica find out who Danny is? How will she react when she discovers he is her childhood crush Luca? How long will it take Danica to figure out what she wants and go after it?
I really love Danny/Luca and wanted to strangle Danica at times. I truly enjoyed this book. I volunteered to review an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
